  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 07:14 PM) I never said we should promote him right now, I meant at least a couple months I never implied that you said we should promote him right now. I said its too early to be talking about promoting him, which you are. And even June, which you referenced as the time which he would be back in the field and as such the time he should be promoted, would be too early. I'll say it again: he is on a hot streak right now, so we have to see what he is like when he cools off before we talk about promoting him.
  2. Whoever said they liked Torres was on to something. Probably if he keeps it up he is probably gone before the second round.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 05:55 PM) 10 errors now for Bohm, fielding percentage near .870. Again not sure what's considered good or bad for a 3b in college but he has seemingly made like 6-8 of those in last few weeks Yeah, that is not good. As we get closer and he stays in the top group we should get a better read on his defense when the same people view him many times in a row so that they see both good and bad. I almost wonder how much of it is the playing conditions or field being bad. The Fangraph guys were pretty sure he would be at least average defensively.
  4. In this quick article about the draft, Scott Merkin says that Hostetler was in Wisconsin scouting a game for a draft prospect earlier this week. Can anyone think of anyone else playing in Wisconsin this last week besides Kelenic? That's what my mind first jumped too, but I could be forgetting someone. Hostetler also said they are down to 8-10 names for #4 at this point. If the Wisconsin thing is Kelenic, that would mean the list probably includes him, Swaggerty, Bohm, and Mize as names we've been connected to plus Mize who everyone says has separated himself.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 03:51 PM) Because he wasn't good at those levels until last year? It's not like it's rare for a 17 year old kid to be stuck in rookie ball/low A for awhile Yeah, but you don't put all that work into him putting it together to promote him before he is ready and destroy his confidence when he can't hit again. He is on fire right now, let's let him cool off a bit before we start talking about promoting him.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 02:16 PM) Yeah, I believe the whole point of him DHing is the alternative to surgery, and said surgery would only occur if something goes wrong with the natural healing process They are going to try and not have the surgery but that doesn't mean they are going to let him play the field for half the year. Keston Hiura didn't play 2B for a whole year when he had this injury and he still had a scare during spring training. I highly doubt they let him play the outfield this year. Also, injury aside, they had him do two years in rookie ball and two years in low A and now they are going to promote him through advanced A after 2 months?
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 02:09 PM) If Adolfo keeps hitting (not at this unsustainable rate of course), I think we'll see him in AA as soon as he's able to play the field So next year?
  8. Well maybe I will freak out a little bit
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 08:51 PM) They said it was 2 to 3 MPH slow on the broadcast earlier, but that probably doesn’t explain that droppoff. If its three off, thats fine. There were a bunch of 95s, so 98 in reality. I think he also pitched yesterday or the day before, so maybe just a little tired still. I'm gonna try and not worry about it until someone who is in attendance brings it up.
  10. Is that TV radar gun right? Looks like Vieira is sitting in the low 90s. If he lost some velo he is not nearly as interesting of a prospect.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 08:04 PM) I will get yelled at for this, but I hope they take Bohm or Madrigal instead of Swaggerty due to this Alternatively, adding another outfielder would give us a definite area of strength to trade from rather than a gamble that a draft pick will help the areas of weakness.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 07:49 PM) When Robert’s healthy, where is he going to start? A or AA? Winston Salem. He is already hanging around with the team. He will go to Arizona to get ready once he gets the cast off, but right now he is with the team.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 07:42 PM) Basabe has had a HUGE start to 2018 Is he the new Ronald Acuna?!?!?!?! I mean probably not, but maybe haha
  14. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 11:35 AM) He will have to hit because he apparently is terrible in the field. Yeah, hopefully with time he becomes playable at third. I wouldn't mind trying him in left like we are with Delmonico.
  15. Swaggerty had a pretty good day. Went 3-7 with 1BB 1K 1HBP 2HRs in two games of a doubleheader today. So should this thread just turn into the daily Bohm & Swaggerty roundup?
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 10:20 PM) Thanks, appreciate the explanation I'd love that...wonder if it's better to get a handful of okay prospects or go all out for a Robert Kiley McDaniel was talking about this in his chat a while back: whether its better to spend all your money on a few (or one) high upside guys or spread it out over a ton of lower level guys. There are so many guys who simply develop later and get passed over in their initial J2 or are very risky that you would be able to sign cheap, and we see so many of them in the majors, its weird no teams spread the money out. The only real downside is that you would have to operate several DSL teams and that would cost an extra few million per year. The strategy I think we should use is to go after the big guys when we can, but concentrate on the lower level guys because we don't really have the big international draw like some other teams do, so we would be working at a disadvantage going against other bigger name teams for the same guys. I would have us operate two DSL teams standard and add more if we go big on a few guys and then pick up a ton of sub $10k guys. This would make sure we are always bring in good numbers to increase our odds, and when we do go for the big guy, bringing in even more guys to make up for the lower talent level of the players besides the big one.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:36 PM) Awesome, loved Tejada but I thought CWS can't sign any J2 guys for another year We can, just not for more than $300k. It sounds like he is an okay prospect, but nothing crazy, and bonuses are down with the new hard pools, so we should be able to sign him for $300k.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 02:26 PM) Exactly what a few of us have been talking about doing (in a much smaller scale) Well we might be able to get at least one big name, even though he may or may not be a big talent. This article mainly talking about Acuna's brother links us to Miguel Tejada Jr. for next J2:
  19. QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 03:11 PM) This Lenny Torres Jr. kid around our second pick has some pretty electric stuff I just watched some of his videos after you said that....wow the arm side movement on his fastball is nuts! One video had him striking out Turang looking and Kelenic swinging on the fastball on the outside corner. Looks like he has raw secondary pitches, but a fastball like that would be a nice get in the second. And he is basically a year younger than most of the other HS guys, so he could probably add a little more velo too.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 01:36 PM) Interesting. Glad to see them grabbing some guys as we near the deadline for this period. Might as well leave as little money as possible behind. From the guys I could find any info on, they seem to be older prospects. Considering several were pitchers, they are probably guys who developed late and are just being discovered now. Also, for signings under $10,000 (which many of these older ones probably are) the money doesn't count against the bonus pool, so we could be out of money and still sign those guys.
  21. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 09:50 AM) IMO he's up sometime mid-May and they will DFA Miggy. They shouldn't waste his arm on AAA,let him learn at the big league level once you secure his extra year of service time. I doubt the Sox would do that. They obviously like him enough to resign him after trading him, I doubt they would just dump him after 6 weeks. I honestly think they'll wait until June or July until they can trade him for literally anything (probably nothing) and then bring Kopech up.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 04:58 PM) Infante optioned to Triple-A @-JRFEGAN Gave him a shot. Guessing Gomez myself. We already have a full 40 man though
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 04:16 PM) Couldn't agree more. For me, it's Madrigal or Bohm right now. For some reason, Logan Gilbert just seems like type of guy the Sox would like. Swaggery's average is still a bit concerning I'm not as concerned about Swaggety's average because its already coming back up and he is using a new swing this year, so some streakiness is probably expected. He did well with wood on Team USA during the summer, so he has a good history.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 12:55 PM) Wow did not notice GenericUsername was continuing to update. Lotsa good stuff there. Haha, yeah, I like just putting it all in one place. I also found out that there is a limit to how many quotes you can have in a post
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 12:46 PM) Yeah, I?€™m sold now. Yeah, I'm sold on him and Swaggerty. Its weird, but I think the thing that convinced me about Swaggerty is how young he is relative to some of the other guys in this class. They also both really fit the profile from last year of more walks than strikeouts, high OBP, at least average power.
