QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 11:54 AM) Rolison has been pretty dominant. Seems to have a pretty high floor, but not the ceiling of someone like McClanahan. Not my choice at 4, but i can understand the reasoning. I'd certainly prefer him to someone like Singer at this point. Personally at this point I don't think I want any of the college pitchers besides McClanahan

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 11:42 AM) Kiley chat going on. Some draft questions within for those interested. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/kiley-mcdaniel-chat-2-28-18/ Some highlights for anyone who don't want to read through the whole thing: The first three make sense and I've been hearing a lot about them, but Rolison is kind of a surprise.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 09:32 AM) Benintendi comp? Happ? Jeremy Reed, haha? Jim Edmonds? What’s his defensive scouting report? He should definitely be able to stay in center long term. I would say at least plus speed and maybe more. Haven't hear anything on his arm, so its probably around average.

I don't think anyone is putting him in the top prospect discussion anymore.

Jake Burger out for season with ruptured Achillies Tendon
GenericUserName replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 03:56 PM) Of course it's torn. You don't see guys in that much pain from a strained achilles I basically had that same reaction when I strained my achilles -
What happened with Burger? I had the audio on but I was looking at something else when it happened.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 10:34 PM) I'm part of that's about Robert, if they're both slated for W-S. Not sure if it matters, now that Adolfo will be out or DHing...it opens up more PT in RF/LF. As far as CF and spring training, the problem's at the big league level. You have Tilson, Leury, Cordell and Engel all fighting over the same spot/s...so they need to play there everyday in spring. Plus they're probably holding Rutherford back from playing too much in spring at a corner spot because he struggled so much last year. I'm assuming that Basabe will be starting in CF, wherever he's placed. I'm not an expert on Call, Fisher or Booker, but Basabe should definitely be given priority to play center, at least IMO. Now you can argue that Rutherford is a Top 100 prospect, and normally he would play CF as long as he could ... like a Kyle Tucker situation coming up with HOU, but it seems the consensus is that Rutherford couldn't handle that. Fisher is definitely not a CF and probably not even RF. He is basically limited to LF/1B/DH. I'd say Robert has priority over Call/Booker, but they probably have as much claim to CF time as anyone else including Basabe. As for Rutherford, I would probably see if he can handle right and maybe increase his arm a little because otherwise its LF and that puts a ton of pressure on his bat.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 10:45 PM) Am I the only one who read this thread title as "Boss Baby" at first, or is it just me? Totally did the same thing. I think we just found a new nickname for him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 10:20 PM) Just thought there should be some positives after we've already discounted Burger from playing 3rd, Collins from catching and Adolfo's injury. Oh, and now concerns about LouieRob hitting a breaking ball after 2 K's in 3 AB's. I'm joking, but not completely...as some of those are going to be real concerns, others just a minor blip that will be long forgotten. Actually, Basabe has pretty much the same amount of raw talent as Adolfo...particularly on the defensive (has looked awesome throwing) side of things. He's a true RFer. Of course, his power upside (especially projected homers) isn't that high, at least not yet, and he's really now flying under the radar because of all the struggles last season (and the huge influx of talent, Rutherford, etc.), but he has really been impressive the first few times I've watched him this year. (Yes, it's ONLY spring training, Ryan Sweeney, etc....and also trying to remember that utility infielder (3B) who hit like 6-7 homers in spring training at least 5 years ago that never turned out to be much of a factor during the regular season.) Stop trying to make LouieRob happen. Its not going to happen. But seriously, I'm kind of surprised he's been playing RF because I thought he was a definite CF long term. I wonder if its just a spring training thing or if they wanted to switch him for good. If he has to go off center, then I am much more worried about his bat profiling anywhere else besides as a 4th OF.

Okay, now we need an official answer on Basabe's name.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 09:21 AM) He’s probably #1 on my list. Just seems like he provides the best mix of ceiling & floor on the positional side. Is there any chance he’s available at #4 or will he be a consensus top 3 of guy? I don't think there is any consensus on any picks yet.

LuBob made a nice catch in center. First pitch swinging on his first AB and grounds out to short. Looked like it was solidly hit and he almost beat out the throw at first.

Dunning into the game now for the fourth.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 09:17 AM) The White Sox add cutters to most pitchers' repertoires. If Giolito needs a cutter, Coop will add it. If that turns him into Kluber or something similar, that's one less problem for the rebuild. Is adding the cutter an organizational thing that they do in the minors too or is that just a Coop thing for the big league guys? -

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 12:44 PM) Kevin Powell @kpowell720 now Hahn: Micker Adolfo has UCL sprain in throwing arm. #WhiteSox Chris Kuc @ChrisKuc now Another injury setback for White Sox outfield prospect Miker Adolfo. Elbow strains will sideline him at least six weeks. Surgery is possible. Womp womp Maybe he can do like Keston Hiura did and just DH while doing rehab. If he can do that I'm not really too worried. We know he has a big arm and that he is at least passable in RF, what he needs work on is hitting, so if he can DH while rehabbing it shouldn't really hurt his development. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:35 AM) Article on Swaggerty (current crush) and Steele Walker (great name) by BA. https://www.baseballamerica.com/college/swa...qQY0OADazfy1.97 They also put out a top 10 College OF list today as well. https://www.baseballamerica.com/college/top...dy9BZOp560Ua.97 I really like Zach Watson from the OF list. There is a chance that he could be available in the second round and even though he is a college guy it seems like he has a higher ceiling. He seems like the type that could be a 2nd round pick this year as a sophomore, but would be in the conversation for top 10 if he went back for another year.

This is why I really want us to go HS early and often this coming draft. 83% of the White Sox top 5 round picks in the last 5 years have been college players.

QUOTE (Username @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 03:36 PM) I’d be completely fine with giving Mouse an opt-out after a year or two. We aren’t spending money now. If he’s playing well enough to opt out we just take the comp picks or trade him at the all-star break. You still maintain the payroll flexibility then to upgrade and can likely entice him on a lesser guaranteed commitment. We wouldn't be able to get comp picks. New CBA allows each player to be given a QO once in their career. Moustakas' was this year, so he can't be offered it again.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 06:40 PM) Unfortunately Avi will only have 1 1/2 years of control at that point while Souza has three. Yeah, but he is also younger so signing him to an extension makes even more sense for whatever team acquires him. I'm hoping that, and some team having a bigger need than currently, will make it so they are closer in value. -
2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
GenericUserName replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So the Rays gave up Souza and got back Solak, Banda, and 2 PTBNL? That seems like a great deal for them. That could be a look at what Avi is worth too if he puts up another good first half. -
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 02:29 PM) Why would they lose their 45th pick and not their third round pick (I.e. “third highest pick”)? Sox don’t have a sandwich pick this year. Because we paid into revenue sharing but did not exceed the luxury tax we give up our 2nd highest pick and $500k in international money. The other teams only had to give up their third highest pick because they received revenue sharing. It doesn't matter how much we sign him for even if it were $1. The $50mil number that people bring up is what he has to be paid for the Royals to receive a pick after the first. If he signs for less then they receive a pick after the second round instead.
