QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 01:38 AM) I don't think Abreu was allowed to swing at those. I think it was more or less giving Kopech a reference point by having a batter. No idea why that batter needed to be Abreu though. Could be so he gets used to seeing pitches at those speeds again. Let him get his timing down before actually trying to hit real pitches. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 09:04 AM) Trevor Larnach .889/.923/2.111 2 2B. 3 HR, 7 RBI Larnach has already matched his HR total from all of last year

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 08:58 AM) How'd you figure this out? edit: nvm looks like you scoured our transactions, pretty cool. Maybe I can get a question on these guys in a badler chat sometime. That would be awesome to see if he knows anything about them. Also maybe ask about Camilo Quinteiro who is older but I still can't find any info on besides that we signed him back in September. I highly doubt any of these guys amount to anything, but I like keeping tabs on who we got in the lower levels of the system. -

If anyone was wondering what we did with our remaining international money, we have signed 5 guys since the beginning of February that I think are all international amateurs. Jose Rodriguez SS 16 years old Johnabiell Laureano CF 17 years old Francisco Benitez RHP 17 years old Luis Rodriguez RHP 17 years old Jesus Rondon RHP 18 years old -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 09:32 PM) Why would Dickerson be worth considerably more in June or July than he is now? He is going to cost something to acquire. If the cost is next to nothing, why wouldn’t a team in need go after him now? Because he is coming off of a bad second half. so not only would they have to give up something to get him, they would also have to roster him in hopes he rebounds instead of having whoever the first person off was and that opportunity cost might not be worth it. We can feasibly acquire him for cheap because he was DFA'd so the Rays lost a ton of leverage, and we can then trade him later if he does good so a team acquiring him isn't taking as much of a risk on his performance. This is almost a perfect buy low-sell high opportunity.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:49 AM) Keith Law top 30 usually looks very different than other publications and it's no different this time: 1. Ethan Hankins RHP HS GA 2. Casey Mize RHP Auburn 3. Travis Swaggerty OF South Florida 4. Nolan Gorman 3B HS AZ 5. Matthew Liberatore LHP HS AZ 6. Griffin Conine OF Duke 7. Logan Gilbert RHP Stetson 8. Kumar Rocker RHP GA 9. Jake McCarthy OF Virginia 10. Ryan Rolison LHP Ole Miss 11. Jackson Kowar RHP Florida 12. Carter Stewart RHP HS FL 13. Shane McClanahan LHP South Florida 14. Nander de Sedas SS HS FL 15. Jarred Kelenic OF HS WI 16. Steele Walker OF Oklahoma 17. Seth Beer OF Clemson 18. Nick Madrigal 2B Oregon State 19. Will Banfield C HS GA 20. Brice Turang SS HS CA 21. Cole Wilcox RHP HS GA 22. Brady Singer RHP Florida 23. Tristan Pompey OF Kentucky 24. Tim Cate LHP UConn 25. Jeremy Eierman SS Missouri State 26. Mason Denaburg RHP HS FL 27. Tristan Casas 1B HS FL 28. Cole Winn RHP HS CA 29. Konnor Pilkington LHP Mississippi State 30. Joey Bart C Georgia Tech This list almost feels more like where these guys will probably rank at draft time instead of where they rank right now. #1 falls, college bats rise, high school talent falls besides the top few. This also encourages me about the perceived top 3 HS guys because if even Law has the same 3, there seems to be a consensus forming. And if there are 3, at least 1 should fall to us.

OD Roster Predictions: Centerfield
GenericUserName replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I feel like Cordell and Tilson have missed so much time that unless they have an amazing spring, they should start out in the minors. I also think that the two guys in this group that really need to play CF almost everyday are Tilson and Engel because that will be their primary position. So that basically sets me up with Engel in CF in the majors with Leury as the super sub and then Tilson in center at AAA with Cordell taking some games there when Tilson needs a break. I could see Leury starting in center for opening day if the plan is to have our best guys out there and to use him in a super sub role where he plays more days than he doesn't, but I think the primary CF to start the year will be Engel. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 03:55 PM) Many top hitters are high school players. Would it be worth the risk? De Sedas already turned down a top 15 selection before. ???

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 10:46 AM) You know what's really interesting is McDaniel and Longehagen made a point to devalue pitching overall in their top 100, and still ranked Burdi in it. They must really really like his stuff. Did they devalue pitching overall or did they devalue starting pitching while also adding value to relievers to better reflect the current game?

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 10:10 AM) Liked this write-up at 20 Xavier Edwards SS North Broward Prep HS FL Vanderbilt Some argue the 5-foot-9 shortstop is better than Turang, but only his size is making scouts hesitate. Either way, the tools are real: an 80 runner with a 60 arm, tools for shortstop, and lots of contact from both sides of the plate. There are a lot of interesting writeups on OFers. It feels like with our situation we may avoid OFers though. Xavier Edwards was a guy I was hoping would stay under the radar and be a second round pick if we didn't go with a SS in the first. I really think the best case scenario at this time is that Singer goes in the top 3 and we take whoever falls to us between Gorman, Hankins, and Liberatore. I like Kelenic, and maybe he can show out with the travel circuit, but his profile reminds me too much of Blake Rutherford for me to be confident in him right now.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 10, 2018 -> 05:27 PM) Sorry if this question has already been answered, but I'd like to know whom most of you prefer, between De Sedas and Turing, if you wanted a H.S. SS? Right now, De Sedas. He has a much higher offensive upside apparently. That said, he's been struggling with switch hitting and the only knock on Turang seems to be power, so if De Sedas struggles and Turang shows power this spring I would probably switch.

MLB Pipeline Top Prospects
GenericUserName replied to Squirmin' for Yermin's topic in FutureSox Board
Pipeline now has a schedule for when the team top 30s will be out: I'm going to assume we are going to have to wait until at least March 1st for the White Sox list. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 03:55 PM) Another more hopeful comp could be Kyle Tucker of the Astros. 18 year old out of the draft in 2015 he put up a .647 OPS, 19 year old in 2016 improved to .798, 20 year old in 2017 improved to .874 to make him a major prospect. The home runs went from 3 to 9 to 25 those years. Wow, their numbers look even more similar when you look at just his A ball numbers in his second year compared to Rutherdord's second year. If you take into account the Rutherford was traded and people said it took him some time just to get comfortable on his new team and that could negatively impact his performance, he very well could be on the same track as Tucker. That actually gives me a ton of hope for him this year.

I love that Robert is listed as a CF and still has a 55 for fielding. So not only should he be able to stay in center, but actually be an above average defender there with a plus arm.

Should the white sox buy a prospect?

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 11:52 PM) Not at all. Let's not forget the Dodgers had to lay out a plan for the commissioners office to get under the threshold. Then add in the possibility of Kershaw opting out after the '18 season which would be very costly to future Dodger payrolls and as Balta pointed out, Seager's eventual salary spike and the Dodgers reported interest in Harper. If the dodgers are to remain under the threshold while extending Kershaw/paying Seager and signing Harper, they have more than their work cut out for them. To the Dodgers I say, good luck with that. The Dodgers could give two flying f**** about staying under the luxury tax after this year. They just want to get under this year so that the penalties reset, which will save them money that they can use on the luxury tax payments when all the above increases happen. -
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 04:39 PM) Infante still has 1 minor league option left. I would not be surprised to see him start the year in Charlotte. Farquhar is out of options, so I almost consider him a "lock" to make the team unless he completely implodes this spring. Out of all the arms invited to ST, I think we're going to see Cedeno break with the team. It won't kill Fry and Bummer to begin the year in Charlotte, plus they could both use a little more work, IMO. Should be a really interesting competition this spring. With the 40-man already full, you have to figure that currently there is only room for 1 guy to break camp (Rodon to the 60-day D.L.). I wonder if they can start Nate Jones on the DL to get the extra spot to see what they have in a guy before they have to make a decision.
-
Something else to keep in mind is that our 40 man is currently full, so if it comes down to a NRI and a guy on the 40 and they are about equal, the spot will probably go to the guy already on the 40. Also I could definitely see us going with 13 pitchers for a lot of the year, because it will help protect the young arms as well as showcase more guys who we are open to trading.

Should the white sox buy a prospect?

QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 10:00 AM) He's still a top 100 prospect his stuff is electric but yeah he probably falls a little after last year. A bunch of their guys took steps back but they still have some really young guys who could be part of a 2nd wave (or all flame out entirely). Heredia. Brito. Merinan. What impresses me most isn't who they have at the top but the guys 15-30. Most of our guys are already advanced with very little upside. Their guys could rise to the ranks of the top 100 in a couple of years. I'm also not sure what the market is right now doesn't seem like there are any other teams willing to take on a contract of Kemps size. Alvarez is off both the BA and mlbpipeline new top 100 and is #5 in the dodgers BA top 10. I think people are really concerned about his control, so he's a perfect project for the White Sox! And I really want the new top 30 for the dodgers to come out because on the 2017 list, I like basically all their guys from like 23 down 30. -
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 08:56 AM) Pretty sure the Bulls go to his son, and I would imagine he would pass down his controlling share(s) of the Sox as well. I think his kids are only keeping one, and in the past I believe he has they would sell the Sox, but I remember reading something a few months ago (that I can't seem to find now so I may have just imagined it) that he had changed his mind and that he would rather they sell the Bulls and keep the Sox. Either way, I doubt he sells either while he is still alive. Someone brought up how he has the ownership shares in a trust or something similar so that the tax burden would be very minimal if his children decided to sell, but it would be more if he sells while he is still alive. So being the tax guy that he is, he will keep the team just to lower the taxes when they do sell. I also think the idea of selling off all assets to lower expenses in order to facilitate a trade is flawed. The value of these teams is in the future revenue they could generate. If lowering the expenses drives fans away, it significantly hurts future value and would probably lower the value of the club.

Should the white sox buy a prospect?

QUOTE (GermanSock @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 07:59 AM) Top 50 AND another interesting prospect is unrealistic but I agree about font.jeff loves him for some reason. I think a real (but fringy) top100 and a filler would be a realistic return, don't want a 27 year old who dominated AAA. Must be a real prospect. Alvarez would be perfect but then you absolute don't get any second guy of course. Alvarez had fallen off the top100 and his stock is pretty down right now. If we target him, you could also probably get another guy from the back of their top 30 pretty easily. -
Does he have an invite to major league camp? I'd assume so but I haven't seen anyone say conclusively

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 05:33 PM) Hopefully Reinsdorf can convince him to get rid of competitive balance picks. I don't want to get rid of them, I just want us to get them
