  1. Who else is on this council? What does it do? Does JR now have the power to force Machado to go to the White Sox?
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 02:04 PM) From the White Sox: As a Season Ticket Holder, we want to make sure you're aware of the extended netting that will be installed from Sections 122-127 and 137-142 and will be 30-feet high, matching the height of the backstop. The state-of-the-art netting above the dugout near these sections will have the ability to lift, allowing interaction with fans pregame and at other times. Awesome. I love that it seems like they thought of the fan interaction portion and addressed that before it even had time to be an issue. I do wonder if all the teams having nets will now let some technological advances in netting to take place to make it less intrusive. I've heard some suggestions of using clear filaments like fishing line or using stronger. smaller rope so that its easier to see through, but both of those have their problems. If this precedent trickles down to the minors, independent leagues, colleges and high schools, there would seem to be enough money in it for someone to find a better option than what we have now.
  3. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 11:06 PM) I think this is the guy I was stuck on last summer when I was thinking of a stud SS coming out of college that I really wanted the Sox to go after. Pretty sure it was Eierman and I saw him because I was watching Burger's games. Eierman looks good, but he would have to show that he would definitely stay at short to move up boards, but the bigger problem is that he struggled mightily this past summer with the national team and teams are wondering if he can hit with wood. Its the same reason Seth Beer probably can't move up too much even if he has a great year. Also I don't know if the Sox would have him rated higher than they did Burger last year because I think he had a lot more strikeouts than Burger and we know the Sox value guys with low strikeouts and high walk rates. That's why I could actually see us taking a flier on Beer in the second round because even when he struggled with wood, he still walked a ton and didn't strike out a lot.
  4. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 10:51 PM) For me, my top 5 are 1. Gorman 2. McClanahan 3. Liberatore 4. De Sedas 5. Mize Note: I think Singer and Hankins will both go top 3. I wouldn't be crazy about De Sedas, as I have heard reports about the kid batting switch and not hitting well as a lefty, which is not good. I'm all aboard the LHP train as well, if Gorman isn't there. Obviously things will change between now and June. I'd be kind of bummed if they went with another RHP. I heard the same on De Sedas. If he continues to struggle, I think you only take him if he is okay going back to just hitting righty. If he wants to continue experimenting with switch hitting even though its not working, take someone else. Also did anyone hear comment I think Hostetler made in one of the podcasts about the kids attitudes being something they really value and look into? I was kind of wondering if that was about Kelenic because someone said how he might not handle failure well, but it might also have been about De Sedas staying with switch hitting even when people are advising him against it.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 04:47 PM) I was looking at the BA top 200 for like 20 minutes thinking "draft x then go after y in 2nd round" but reality is until these guys start becoming part of consistent weekly chats with info I have no idea. I don't like that recent writeup on De Sadas. I would like bat + 2nd round pitcher, but in a draft full of deep HS pitching you could just go big on pitching. A lot of recent stuff on De Sedas doesn't sound promising. It really sounds like he has the potential for a really high ceiling, but would be a super risky take. On the other hand, I keep hearing great stuff about Gorman and they are quelling some of my fears about his hitting ability while really praising his power and believing that he cannot just stick at 3b, but become a premium defender there. That would be nice, especially because he and Burger are several years apart in age, so you could potentially have Gorman take over for Burger at 3b if he has to slide to 1b if he slows down in a couple years. I'm also really high on Liberatore. It seems like the only thing he is lacking is premium velocity, but that has even ticked up recently and if you look at a lot of the top pitching prospects right now, they had good velo gains after they were drafted. This is the kind of guy that if he can get to even 65 FB, he could be one of the top lefties in the minors. I'm high on Hankins as everyone else is, and as much as I want to go HS with the first pick, Singer does sound solid. So my top five is probably 1. Hankins 2. Gorman 3. Liberatore 4. De Sedas 5. Singer One funny scenario I keep playing out in my head is if we take Gorman in the first and then Seth Beer in the second, thus picking a 3B in the first and 1B in the second for two straight years. That sounds so bad on the surface, but the upside of the players in those picks would be really good.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 11:50 AM) I'm shocked the Dodgers haven't cut him yet since it seemed likely. I guess it doesn't hurt to give him a shot in Spring Training for the LF job. They're trying to get his salary off the payroll so they can get Darvish and stay under the luxury tax. If they cut him, his money counts, so better to exhaust all possibilities of trading him before releasing him.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 02:58 PM) https://theloopsports.com/2018/01/27/white-...he-farm-system/ [/i][/b] This kind of scares me that we wouldn't take Hankins if he fell to us.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 27, 2018 -> 09:05 AM) Do you have a link to the article? Would love to read it.
  9. There was just an article today and it mentioned that 8 teams still hadn't extended the netting and we were one of those. I was pretty disappointed, so I'm glad they're doing it even if it was just a reaction to everyone else doing it.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 10:37 AM) Yeah, I would guess there are a ton of guys in their Dominican camp that we have no idea about yet. Thats the thing though, I have a running list of every roster in the organization including the DSL teams with everyone from Hector Acosta to Pablo Yanes covered, and I know that signings often don't play until the following year, but this guy had no information on him. With Sydney Pimentel and Jefferson Mendoza, both guys that signed for under $300k so not super well known, you could still find reports of their signing and things like pictures of them, small scouting reports, and general background. Camilo doesn't have any of that; he wasn't even listed on the baseball america international signing tracker.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 08:20 AM) Seems as if the one the Sox signed is Dominican I saw that on his page, but I literally can't find anything else on him. I was thinking if this is the Cuban guy, the city in the DR could just be where he established residency to qualify for free agency.
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 11:59 PM) I hadn't kept up with him is all... so wasn't aware he struggled. Bummer, hope he turns it around - seemed like a good kid. He's the type I would be willing to buy low on because he does have the tools, but you know if you take him that he is a project and not someone who just has small things to work on.
  13. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 11:37 PM) Pretty insane that Ray was their 10th best prospect... did he have a bad 2017 or something? Just in case this isn't being sarcastic, last year he slashed .238/.311/.367 with a K rate ~31% as a 22 year old in advanced A ball.
  14. Has anyone heard of one of our international signings named Camilo Quinteiro? I was looking through the White Sox transaction page and I saw his name but it didn't sound familiar at all. His MLB.com page says he is a 20 year old SS, but I can't find any other information about this guy existing. There is a SS/2B from Cuba named Camilo Quintero (so a one letter difference) who is about the right age and played on the same national teams as Luis Robert when the were younger, so I'm wondering if we signed him as a favor to Robert. I would actually be pretty happy if we did that because a lot of the guys from those teams are now highly regarded prospects, but I can't find anything on Quintero after 2014, so I don't know if he developed or stopped playing. He was also on the same team as Victor Mesa Jr., who is probably one of the last two elite prospects left in Cuba along with Yoelkis Cespedes.
  15. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 05:16 PM) Milwaukee Brewers @Brewers The #Brewers have acquired OF Christian Yelich from Miami in exchange for OF Lewis Brinson, OF Monte Harrison, INF Isan Diaz and RHP Jordan Yamamoto. Wow, that is a pretty great haul. Harrison was getting rave reviews after the AFL.
  16. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 07:41 AM) I can't wait for the whole list to be out tomorrow! MLB is my favorite The whole top 100 isn't coming out until Saturday night. They're doing a reveal show for it.
  17. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 08:07 AM) Eloy Jimenez Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 70 | Run: 40 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 65 The top-rated international prospect during the 2013-14 signing period, Jimenez signed with the Cubs for $2.8 million out of the Dominican Republic. He emerged as one of baseball's best prospects in 2016, when he starred at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in San Diego, topped the Midwest League in slugging (.532) and OPS (.901) and won the Class A circuit's MVP award at age 19. Despite missing the first six weeks of 2017 with a bone bruise on his right shoulder, he posted better numbers and kicked his game up a notch further (.348/.405/.635 in 47 games) after getting traded to the White Sox in July as part of a four-prospect package for Jose Quintana. Jimenez has few peers among prospects when it comes to hitting for average and power. His massive raw pop, generated with impressive bat speed and leverage from the right side of the plate, earns him comparisons to Giancarlo Stanton. He recognizes pitches well, makes savvy adjustments, doesn't try to do too much and is making progress with his plate discipline. Though Jimenez may not offer much beyond his bat, he still can become a superstar. As he has gotten bigger and stronger, he has slowed and now has below-average speed. His arm strength also has regressed and he recorded just six assists in his first four pro seasons, so he now projects as a fringy left fielder. I know defense is not his calling card, but I am not pleased to hear about the arm and defense looking shaky^. I was hoping he could be average with a solid arm. It won't matter when we have Micker and his cannon of an arm in RF.
  18. Top 10 OF 1. Ronald Acuna, Braves 2. Eloy Jimenez, White Sox 3. Victor Robles, Nationals 4. Shohei Ohtani, Angels 5. Kyle Tucker, Astros 6. Austin Hays, Orioles 7. Lewis Brinson, Brewers 8. Luis Robert, White Sox 9. Juan Soto, Nationals 10. Alex Verdugo, Dodgers
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 23, 2018 -> 10:43 PM) I’ll keep repeating it, thanks but no thanks. If Acuna or Brinson is actually involved, then let’s end the discussion right now. Giving up that caliber of a prospect at this point in our rebuild (plus more) would be insanity. Marlins aren’t taking our secondary pieces for Yelich. I'm actually slightly encouraged. He said the Braves wouldn't give up Acuna, so if the Nats also don't give up Robles, the prospect value is lower. I think people are down on Brinson because he struggled in the majors. The Brewers fan were more concerned about Monte Harrison and the insider said Josh Hader was untouchable. If Brinson isn't viewed as good and he is leading the package, maybe we could get by with an offer based around Rutherford + Cease ++ if we take back some contracts. Thats something that we have over the Braves, Brewers, and Nats, though not over the Padres probably.
  20. Checking out the Brewers message board again and their insider, who they all seem to believe is very credible, is saying the Marlins are gathering final offers for Yelich and the trade could be happening soon. He says the Brewers have a 95% of landing him, but the Braves, White Sox, Padres and Nationals are also in it with the Braves being the biggest threat. He said he doesn't think we offered Eloy or the Braves offered Acuna, but the Nats may have offered Robles.
  21. From Longenhagen's prospect chat today when asked about Collins and Rutherford: Only 45/50 raw power is really disappointing. It really looks like we're going to have to do some work on him for him to reach anywhere near his potential. If he is able to regain his old form, I think that also answers a lot of questions about our abilities to develop bats.
  22. Looking at the BA100 had me concerned about the rebuild, but then when I read things like this I am encouraged again. The thing that looking at so many of the overall prospect lists makes me forget is that so many above average major league players weren't ranked super high, but were actually under the radar. Guys like Sosa, Rivera, Yurchak could all be guys that play a part in our rebuild, but they don't really get talked about. And then there are the pitchers like McClure where he could be a rotation guy and we got him in like the 5th round. I think the one big thing that is going to make our rebuild work is our ability to take under the radar pitchers and turn them into quality major leaguers. That will provide us with the talent pool to trade from and also the ability to not have to overspend for pitchers and instead use that money on position players.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 09:25 AM) Robert was ranked 45th in their midseason list, so just kind of surprised he’d fall 13 spots. He probably has the same grade as before, other guys just got better and jumped him.
  24. I'm perusing one of the Brewers fan sites and a guy that they all see as a reliable insider just said this when asked for an update: The contract issues part makes it sound like maybe it is Ellsbury because the NTC.
  25. I don't mind where Robert or Hansen are ranked. To me they are both guys that had such big questions about them that they ranked where they are right now while some of the questions still remain. For Hansen its whether he can keep the command he has found and not suddenly lose it like he did his Junior year. If he is able to go out in the first half and do what he did last year I can see him jumping up to the top 30 by midyear. For Robert, they just haven't seen him play in a game against competition here yet. To me his ranking is like how they rank guys who are just drafted where they basically just have to guess where they would be based on tools alone and no actual track record against real competition. Robert is a top 10 type talent, so if he goes out and dominates like we think he can, I don't think we'll have to worry about him being ranked low anymore. He could have an Acuna type of rise through the ranks.
