Baseball America Top 10 Prospects
GenericUserName replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 11:49 AM) How the heck does anyone think there's reliable scouting on his ballgame baserunning instincts at this point? Well he was never a great base stealer in Cuba, so maybe they see that and think he won't be good here against even better catchers. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 11:02 AM) I am hoping that Robert is actually our fastest baserunner when he gets out there. I found it interesting they used the term baserunner and not just speed. If Robert's times that we've heard are accurate he is probably the fastest, but maybe he isn't the best baserunner because of technique or instincts. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 09:59 AM) In order to really get this team to a point where it is into the sustained success category. This franchise needs guys outside of the top prospects to explode on to the scene. There aren't nearly enough top level guys to sustain this. Thats why I'm all about drafting high upside high school guys now. Most of the impact talent for out first window of contention is already in the org, but we need more high impact possibility guys for when some of the first window guys leave or stop producing. -
Where does Luis Robert start 2018?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 10:12 AM) I believe Rick Hahn has said A ball seems to be their target. Personally I can't see a scenario that doesn't involve him on anything but a full season team. Yeah, I think it comes down to how he does in spring training whether he will be put in A or A+ to start. Unless he absolutely destroys, I see it more likely he is in A to start and will probably have a promotion by the midseason point. -
QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 10:00 AM) The White Sox are in a great position for the draft. There are a lot of different roads they could go down. Which would you rather see? 1. White Sox draft the best overall college player available? 2. White Sox draft the best overall high school player? Besides the obvious "Just go with BPA!", I would rather take a high school guy. We don't have a ton of super young talent. We are going to need to build up a second wave of prospects if we want this rebuild to turn into sustained success rather than building it up to compete for a few years and then going back to sucking.

Fake Rumor: White Sox and Moustakas "Close" on Deal.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 04:24 PM) Still forfeit the draft pick, IIRC. There was another a couple years ago, can't remember who. What pick we lose depends on whether we paid into revenue sharing or received from revenue sharing. The former would mean forfeiting our 2nd highest pick and $500k in international pool. The latter would mean forfeiting our 3rd highest pick. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter how much he signs for. That only matters for the Royals. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/08/offs...ffer-rules.html -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) Well, he is 20, and now has a lot more money than he ever had. Seems par for the course If I remember correctly, they also didn't have internet in Cuba. So he's a 20 year old in great shape with a ton of followers who just got money and the internet for the first time. The selfies basically seem like the logical extension of that. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) Not necessarily true. The Rockies technically give up their 3rd pick. If Holland re-signs with them (highly unlikely) they'd forfeit their actual 2nd rounder which doesn't move Sox up at all. Right, but in the draft order you have listed already accounts for them getting the pick and that pushing us to 48, so if they don't get it then we are 47.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) Wade Davis signed a 3 year $52 million deal with Colorado today. The Rockies have to forfeit their 3rd highest pick in order to do this. The Rockies pick at #22 and have a Competitive Balance pick at #44. Once Greg Holland signs, they'll get a pick after round 1. Once that happens, they'll forfeit #44 which moves the White Sox up another spot. 1. Tigers 2. Giants 3. Phillies 4. White Sox 5. Reds 6. Mets 7. Padres 8. Braves 9. Athletics 10. Pirates 11. Orioles 12. Jays 13. Marlins 14. Mariners 15. Rangers 16. Rays 17. Angels 18. Royals 19. Twins 20. Twins 21. Brewers 22. Rockies 23. Yankees 24. Cubs 25. Diamondbacks 26. Red Sox 27. Nationals 28. Astros 29. Indians 30. Dodgers 31. Rays (Alex Cobb) 32. Royals (Eric Hosmer) 33. Royals (Lorenzo Cain) 34. Royals (Mike Moustakas) 35. Rockies (Greg Holland) 36. Indians (Carlos Santana) Competitive Balance Round A 37. Pirates 38. Rays (Comp, failure to sign Rasmusses) 39. Orioles 40. Padres 41. Diamondbacks 42. Royals 43. Indians 44. Rockies 45. Cardinals 2nd Round 46. Tigers 47. Giants 48. White Sox So this moves the Sox up to 47 regardless. Either the Rockies don't get the pick for losing Holland or they do lose him and get the pick but then lose the competitive balance pick.

Dodgers trade Adrian Gonzalez, BMac, Kazmir, Culberson
GenericUserName replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I feel like maybe the reason Hahn hasn't done a trade like this already is because he is waiting to see if he needs to take back a bad contract in another trade for someone big like any of the guys on the Marlins. It could also be holding up trades for Avi and Abreu because we might pay down some of their contracts if it brings back a much better return. The way I see it, Hahn probably knows how much money we have and he views it as an asset just like any of our players. He has to figure out how to maximize our return for that asset whether that be using it to bring on a bad contract, pay down our players in trades, or sign a free agent to hopefully flip. The problem is that figuring out how to maximize this asset is more difficult than players because with players you just have to know one person's market while for this he has to know the market for every potential bad contract dump, the markets for both of Avi and Abreu, and the potential mid-season market for all of the free agents. For that reason its no wonder we hear about the White Sox in almost every trade rumor. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 01:03 PM) Not sure what it’s referring to, did mention they have a guy in consideration at #4 that’s not even in top 20 on the major lists. Hostetler said that? I really hope he is not talking about Beer.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) @MaxWildstein 25m25 minutes ago Source: #Pirates have been receiving calls from other teams on Gerrit Cole, besides #Yankees, maybe #WhiteSox and #STLCards, so he’s expected to eventually be dealt. First: @jcrasnick. Okay, now I officially think Kenny has RH tied up in a room somewhere and has taken back over. -
Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
GenericUserName replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) It may in fact hurt to try. Without knowing prices it's always hard. What the Marlins have gotten back so far has been uninspired, but if you look at the Ozuna deal, those were good and high-level prospects. Increase them. For Yellich, would fully expect a Gio/Lopez, Dunning/Hansen, Burger/Collins return at a minimum. I would not trade him for any less. I would say we might be able to decrease the price if we take on a bad contract. Maybe the reason we haven't done that with Kemp or Ellsbury yet is because that is our plan with the Marlins. -
If you can get Yelich for Rutherford, Cease, & Fulmer, maybe also taking on a bad contract or two, you absolutely do it. I'm not particularly high on any of those guys and I think we have better options at all the positions while CF is an area of need. But I doubt that would get it done. I think the Marlins are going to wait for someone to offer a haul before they trade Yelich.

Dustin Fowler suing White Sox for injury

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) This is moment of impact. The box he supposedly hit his RIGHT knee on is on the left side of him in front of the stairs. I just don't buy that. Yeah, if you watch the video you can see where his leg made impact with the pad because there is a mark. It is several inches to the right of that box. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) Second round pick moves up a spot due to the Phillies signing Santana FWIW But it moves back one from the Indians getting the comp pick, so basically its the same.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 05:28 PM) I’m not going to complain if they get him, but I’m rooting for ‘the field’ here. Too risky. Keep the prospects. Moncada and Jimenez are going to be our superstars anyway. I'm the same with not being mad if we get him, but I' rooting for Baltimore to be dumb and keep him. I feel like whatever team gets him gets the advantage for trying to sign him and I'm okay if that's us, but I also think if we get him we won't sell off any pieces this year so it doesn't look like we are still deep in the rebuild to him. -
The White Sox should target Kazuhisa Makita

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) At that age, I don't think a posting fee would be needed. I would guess he is a free agent. He wouldn't be subject to international bonus pools but unless his contract is up I'm pretty sure he has to be posted. -

I don't think we'd want to pay for the posting if its not super small, so I doubt we go after him. -
White Sox have shown interest in Machado
GenericUserName replied to peppers312's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Assuming we do get Machado, I would probably move Anderson to CF for the year to help convince Machado to sign. If he does sign and wants to play short we can keep TA in CF or try to trade him (or move TA to second & Moncada to third). If he signs and is okay playing 3B then we can put TA back at SS. If he doesn't sign then we can end the experiment and put TA back at SS. No matter what happens though, you do not get rid of TA until Machado signs an extension. We have no other real SS prospects in the system so you would have to keep TA as insurance should Machado leave. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:08 AM) We can use it, we just can't use all of that on one player. We can't use it because there are basically no players left to sign for $300k. And even if one pops up, would you rather have two lottery tickets or Nick Burdi?
-
The Pirates got Burdi for $500k of international bonus money while we have ~$1mil that we can't use.
