QUOTE (GermanSock @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 03:23 AM) trout has an uber athlete coming into the draft. he also wasn't really all that raw but he played in a cold weather state against weak competition so some Scouts doubted whether he would hit against good pitching. most prospects are from warm weather states because you can Play year round against good competition there (travel ball) and many Teams are a Little biased against cold weather state Players (which in some cases makes sense but also can be a mistake at times). trout did hit as an Amateur but some Scouts assumed he couldnt due to the Level of competition. he did develope more power than People thought though, when he was in the minors People thought he would be like a 15-20 HR guy with great Speed but then he developed 30+ HR power (also added quite a bit of muscle mass). This is honestly why I'm scared about passing on Kelenic. It seems so similar and he has done nothing but crush the ball and play good defense but no one has him rated in like the top 5. He was already in the finals in several home run derbies and he looks like he could still add bulk. I've seen 65 grade run times out of him, but many predict he is going to slow down. He can steal a base, play CF, and still hit for a high average even with game power. The only real knock I've seen on him is that he is from Wisconsin and might not face the best competition.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 07:54 AM) 4 teams with great young cores. It looks like Ginacarlo just wants to win. He wants to win and he wants to win next year. Those are the four LCS teams from last year. He's basically taking the Durant method to winning a ring.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 07:16 AM) Then I’m all for taking him. Yeah, he's definitely in my to 3 favorite available. I feel like we won't take 2 rule 5 guys, but maybe if one of them is Burdi because he can be stashed on the DL for a while and then should be okay occasionally coming out of the pen for the rest of the year.
-
Reports out now that the only 4 teams he would waive the no trade clause for are the Dodgers, Yankees, Astros, and Cubs. All of those teams are up against the luxury tax and can't take on that much money. We could help decide where he goes if we want to take on some money like I suggested earlier. Of those 4 I would probably want him on the Dodgers most, Astros next, and then would hate him on either the Cubs or Yankees. The Yankees could have the benefit of taking them out of the Machado bidding though.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) Is Nick Burdi available? If so, what’s his current ETA of coming back? If you look at his social media he has just started throwing from distance. I would say he would be back in time to get his required 90 active days in this year.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) Trading prospects at this stage is counterproductive. I agree to an extent. If we can get Yelich or Ozuna and reduce the prospect cost to lower tier guys by taking on a contract that is a steal.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) We’re talking about the Dodgers right? They have almost limitless amounts of money. The only thing that might scare them off is the luxury tax, but I don’t see Stanton’s deal ever being that big of a burden to them. Most other teams? Sure, just not the Dodgers. I think there is pressure for teams to stay under the luxury tax and they are projected at $154mil payroll in 2019 without Stanton, so with him they would have less than $20mil to spend.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 9s Source: #Mariners acquire Dee Gordon from #Marlins. Wow, Dee Gordon and $1mil international bonus money for just Seattle's #2 who scouts are low on and two other prospects not on their top 30. Obviously the rankings are outdated and all three could be on, but that seems relatively cheap. Makes you wonder what they are asking for Yelich and Ozuna. -
Telling the White Sox to pick Trout instead of Jared Mitchell is in like the top 3 things I would do if I ever created a time machine.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) Don’t really want to do anything that makes the best team in baseball stronger. I think it makes them stronger in the short term but weaker in the long term. Yeah, they might have Stanton, but they would probably be pretty locked in to their roster in terms of salary because of it and might lose some guys that they can't resign or extend.

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/making-a-st...-la-trade-work/ This article brings up the idea of the Dodgers and Marlins bringing in a third team to take some money off the Dodgers books. It mentions the Rockies, but I would love it for the Sox to do this. Take on Adrian Gonzalez and get something of worth for it (Pederson, Grandal, prospects etc.) while creating more trade demand for Avi (Giants) and Abreu (Cardinals) and still having the possibility that Gonzalez could rebound and be flipped. Plus it would have the added bonus of hurting the Cubs chances of getting to the WS again.

He was a teammate of Luis Robert for at least one season. Doesn't look nearly as good as Robert, but if we have some money left and Robert wants a familiar face I wouldn't be against signing him. EDIT: He would probably be cleared to sign after the Ohtani signing is complete and after the Braves prospects can receive a signing bonus, so any money left could only be spent on remaining J2 prospects or the couple Cubans who came over.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 08:44 AM) Right I don't think he expected the new CBA to be so hard against him but he wanted to come. I think his team would have posted him if he demanded it because I thought I heard one of the reasons he signed with them was their openness to posting him when he wished. It makes me wonder who was advising him when he was still in Japan. Because wasn't the new CBA approved like last winter, so he could have tried to just come over before the signing agreement ended in November. He would have gotten more money, been here sooner, and probably saved MLB and the players union from a lot of headaches.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 08:12 AM) Is there a reason that Ohtani did not try to come over in the last international free agent class where he could have gotten paid a mega contract? Didn't his team not want to post him? Plus, I think under the old cba he could have been a free agent without restrictions this year because he is 23.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) Mariners and Angels both acquire international slot money from Twins. Race to Ohtani! A former third rounder and a former fifth rounder, both from the 2017 draft, for $1mil each. That makes our deal for Vieira look even better. -
From a fangraphs chat: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/fangraphs-a...ark-chat-12517/ How would you guys feel about that deal?

MLBPipeline just put out a first 10 picks mock: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/262843418/20...picid=151437456 Callis has us taking De Sedas while De Sedas was already off the board for Mayo who has us taking Jackson Kowar. Both had Singer at #1 and Hankins at #2 or #3, so gone before us. Both also were low on Gorman who they ranked high on the top 50.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) Jesse Sanchez @JesseSanchezMLB now Another former Braves prospect has agreed to a deal with a new team. Source: Shortstop Livan Soto has agreed to a $850K deal with the Angels. The Angels have also agreed to a $2.2M deal with Kevin Maitan. @MLBPipeline Looks like he just deleted that tweet and now says he hasn't signed. Either way, out of our range it looks like.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) Flaherty has the look of a guy who could develop into a mid rotation starter eventually, but I would certainly need more to ship Abreu off. I don't love the Cardinals position player prospect crop right now to say what other pieces I would need. I think this is where I differ with a lot of people. I love Kelly and O'Neil and both are kinda blocked at the ML level and are probably ready to take the jump.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) Sucks a year of control for Reyes was already burned last year. I don't think it matters because we aren't going to get Reyes, but realistically you could put him in the minors for a month or two to get back to pitching and then he would be on approximately the same service time amount as Giolito and Lopez.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) I've been reading that Maitan's stock is down considerably, enough for him to likely fall out of the top 100 prospects due to questions about some bad weight gain? He's far too young to give up on, but he also seems to be viewed as much riskier than before. Yeah, from what I heard before he was a SS with a chance to hit and hit for power and could profile at third if he slowed down too much. Now its a 3B who might have to move to 1B and hasn't hit or had the power they thought he would have so he doesn't profile well at either spot. But considering how bad the Angels farm is, its worth the risk.
-
Maitan signing reported to be for $2.2mil, which means thats from next year because I believe they only have like $1.3mil for Ohtani.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) If they still have money left, they should be ok. Kinda weird the Yankees didn't just try to offer more since they have more to offer and not in on Ohtani. They could also be using their 19-19 allotment. I think the Yankees are going in on Julio Pablo Martinez who should command a good signing bonus and teams can't use next year's pool like they can with the Braves guys (unless Martinez waits until next J2 to sign)
-
QUOTE (Nardiwashere @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) Weren't Angels supposedly still in on Ohtani? I wonder if they removed themselves by signing Maitan. They could have just used next year's pool like MLB is allowing for the former Braves prospects.
