My top four are probably Brady Singer, Ethan Hankins, Nander De Sedas, and Jarred Kelenic. I feel like mlbpipeline was lower on a couple of the last two's tools than I have seen others. Kelenis probably has higher than 50 power and almost definitely more than 55 speed. De Sedas was given 40 speed when the worst I heard before was that he was going to end up average. Those two probably have the highest potential of position players though. For the pitchers, Singer looks like the safe bet to be a pretty good pitcher. Hankins meanwhile has superstar potential. Good movement on a fastball that is probably major league ready and I like how he switches up his delivery to throw hitter off.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/roya...or-rebuild.html On the positive side for them, they have I think 4 picks after the first round. Who can they realistically trade that has value though? Duffy? Perez? I would think they're rebuilding situation is a lot better than the Tigers. Yeah, 5 of the first ~40 picks is going to be crazy and give them a huge bonus pool. I feel like a good strategy for a quicker rebuild with that many picks would be to go heavy on college players at the top and use the huge bonus pool to pick up any high upside high school guys that fall to the later rounds.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) You're talking about if he we were to stay down and get the 7th year of control. It would still be year 4. If a team kept him down until like early June (obviously they won't), it would be 5th year. So depending on when he would get called up, it would be 3 or 4 years of arb (at the 6+ years of control). I misunderstood the rule. I thought if he started the season in the majors at the end of his second year he would qualify, but he would have to have more than two years to qualify. He would get arb after year 3. My bad.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) This is my interpretation would be interested to see if anyone has any corrections 300k - 2mill signing bonus 500k minimum salary for 3 years arbitration eligible starting year 4 I think he would end up getting super 2 designation so he would probably get arb in year 3, but otherwise this is correct.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 07:45 AM) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/shoh...even-teams.html I guess the only answer is that he wants to be on the west coast, but the Cubs and Rangers made amazing pitches while the A's made a horrible one. I'm fully rooting for the Mariner, but really I just don't want the Cubs or Dodgers. Edit: New favorite scenario is that he goes to the Cubs, but then MLB finds they illegally signed him so they get punished, he gets released, realizes he loves Chicago and signs with the Sox.

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA

Same guy who had Castillo to the White Sox and says Stanton is going to the Cardinals is saying Ohtani picked the Mariners. He's almost definitely just banking on the fact that the Mariners are probably gonna sign him so he looks like he had the scoop a week early, but its funny to see him defend his tweet. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 07:27 PM) I don't really get the whole West Coast draw for Japanese players. Theres maybe one break in the season where he would be able to go back home and if he is an All-Star, he wouldn't be able to go home anyway. Is it more for family to visit? There's also generally larger Japanese populations so it might just be more comfortable or they already have friends or family there. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Jon MorosiVerified account @jonmorosi 5m5 minutes ago More Sources: #Marlins have agreed to general framework of Giancarlo Stanton trades with both #STLCards and #SFGiants; the deals are on hold, while Marlins wait for Stanton to inform them whether he’d accept either trade. @MLB @MLBNetwork Jon MorosiVerified account @jonmorosi 4m4 minutes ago More For #Marlins, agreement on Stanton trade frameworks with #SFGiants and #STLCards was logical precondition for Stanton to meet officials from both clubs last week. @MLB @MLBNetwork on MorosiVerified account @jonmorosi 3m3 minutes ago More If Stanton had met with #SFGiants and #STLCards without trade framework already in existence, #Marlins would have risked losing leverage if Stanton agreed to move forward with one and not the other. @MLB @MLBNetwork Jon MorosiVerified account @jonmorosi 24s24 seconds ago More Worth saying again: Giancarlo Stanton is in control here, due to full no-trade. If he wants to wait on the #Dodgers, he can — even if that means saying no to everyone else this offseason and revisiting in July/August or next winter. @MLB @MLBNetwork Interesting thought that probably wouldn't happen: Stanton wants to go to the Dodgers but they are worried about luxury tax stuff, so lets offer to take someone like Adrian Gonzalez off their hands for a prospect or two. If we move Abreu we could use him at 1B and hope he has a bounce back year so we can flip him. Or just try to get Grandal on the cheap because I think they were gonna try to trade him.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) It's entirely possible it just hasn't leaked out yet. They could be out. I know they could be out already, but one reporter said the cubs are believed to be the exception to the west coast preference.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) https://twitter.com/JamesFox917Bob NightengaleVerified account @BNightengale The Chicago #WhiteSox are also out on Ohtani 2 replies 0 retweets 1 like I understand that the teams are the ones announcing when they are out, but how are the Cubs still in and the White Sox out? Neither are on the West coast Cubs are a bigger market when he wants small market He didn't want a team that was already established He could get DH at bats with the Sox but would have to play the field with the Cubs We have Don freaking Cooper I knew we were a long shot, but seeing the Cubs still in it gets me mad

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) Well I hope he signs with the Angels now, that would be the most fun destination. I'm hoping for Angels or Mariners mostly because I don't think we'd have to worry about either of them in the playoffs when we start to compete. -

Ohtani needs some new agents already. This questionnaire/slow reveal is making every other fan base hate him. Not good when so much of his money is going to be tied up in marketing. It might now have been the best strategy. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/shoh...s-saturday.html Wow, so we should know who made the first cut by the end of the day. I wonder if his camp will put out a whole list or if teams will just leak whether they made it or not. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) He is supposed to miss most, if not all of 2018. I think there is some hope for him to be back for the second half, and there was a similar situation a year or two ago and the guy signed a one year deal with a team option for a second year, both at pretty low salaries. It would give the White Sox the guarantee to have him when he is healthy at a lower salary than if he proves he is healthy while also mitigating the risk because if he can't come back you don't have to pick up the option.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) That is why I was surprised about Petricka. Could these guys still be resigned to deals? Yeah they can sign minor league deals. There was even an article about Putnam where he commented about not knowing if he would be tendered and if he isn't if he would be back with the White Sox to do rehab.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) I have been thinking about this as well and it all come down to the fact that the White Sox can only lose one player in the Rule 5 so it is not like the team is going to be decimated. Further, they need some spots on the 40 man to field a major league team in 2018 so some flexibility was needed there as well. There has to be more free agent signings coming......... That's not true

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) Definitely could be, but it will be interesting to see what the Marlins get for him and how much money they’ll have to eat. Will give us some directional indication of Abrue’s value. It really will be an interesting measuring stick. If you think his contract has no surplus, every dollar retained is surplus, so its basically how much surplus are prospects really worth.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 09:34 PM) That's paying 10M for the #33 pick. Its not my money haha But actually, I don't think it would even take that much.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) https://twitter.com/thestevenwoods/status/936609044248137728 @thestevenwoods I’ve heard from someone in the know that Otani doesn’t want to join a big market team that’s ready to win now. He wants to be THE guy that brings a team to glory and doesn’t mind a rebuild. Know any teams like that? https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20171201...9-nksports-base This article in Japanese indicates that Otani has narrowed his list to 5 teams: the Dodgers, Yankees, Padres and two unnamed teams. Not sure if either of these things mean anything, but just putting it out there. I feel like those two things don't go together, so one is probably wrong. Saying he doesn't want to join a big market team ready to win now and then naming the two biggest big market teams that are ready to win now in his top 5 doesn't make sense. EDIT: Read the (admittedly rough) translation and it seemed more like speculation about the Dodgers Yankees and Padres than Ohtani actually saying those were the top 5. -
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Any second piece is going to have question marks. To get anyone as the second piece that we could immediately plug into the MLB would be a cant turn down deal. He has potential and is a great defensive CF. He's the second piece not first.. If you think that trade is light then people are going to get really upset if we wind up trading him and we see what we get. However, I hope I'm wrong I'm arguing semantics, but I just don't think its something that is too good to pass up. A deal with the second piece being plug and play ML talent would be too good to pass up, but I feel like we could reasonably pass up on a deal with a second piece with big question marks. I'm not saying it isn't a fair proposal, but not all fair proposals are can't pass proposals.

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) I don't see how unless you're of the camp that doesn't want to trade Abreu regardless. I'd be surprised if we got a deal of Flaherty and Sierra for Abreu.. Seems too good to not jump all over I know Flaherty is pretty good, but is Sierra at the level where that's a deal we can't turn down?
