  1. Sweet, now I just have to spend the next three weeks constantly refreshing MLBTR.....
  2. How does this signing work with the 40 man roster? Are we at 40 now pending non-tendered guys?
  3. Looks like he had a good year two years ago but not so great last year. Mid 90s sinker, low 90s cutter, mid 80s curve.
  4. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 09:44 PM) At what I would deem a fair return? Unquestionably Avi. At what I think the market will pay? Abreu probably gets a return closer to his value. I might be undervaluing Jose, but I feel like the trade would have to exceed his value to get it done.
  5. At what I think is fair value I would trade Avi because I personally think his value is higher than others probably think it is while I only want to trade Abreu for above his value.
  6. Everyone who says Ohtani can't do it are just threatened by something they don't know how to comprehend. Ohtani is such a rare case because players at his talent level would never be allowed to play both because they would be drafted out of high school (where many do play both) and then forced to only do one thing by the organization. As we see more high end talent ending up going to college, we are seeing more players who are allowed to play both and are thriving. Who is to say that Hunter Greene, if he had gone to college, couldn't have been a top pick either way like McKay was? Now I don't think everyone can do this and Ohtani may well fail in one of the aspects, but to dismiss it out of hand is shortsighted.
  7. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) Although the Red Sox believe Jose Abreu would fill their need for a middle-of-the-order slugger, the White Sox want "an arm and both legs," according to a rival talent evaluator. Chicago got Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech last year for Chris Sale, and... https://t.co/CkVkipI0ij https://twitter.com/ScottLauber/status/936069446665457664 This is the perfect middle ground. We are willing to trade Abreu, but only if some team is dumb enough to way overpay for him. Maybe the Cardinals if they think some guys are blocked at the ML level and strike out on Stanton, but otherwise I bet we keep him.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 07:20 PM) Sonny Gray was a superior asset though. We should have never expected that type of return for what we gave up. Having said that, I still think we should have got a better second piece than Ian Clarkin, but apparently they are pretty high on him. I wasn't saying we should have gotten all of them, just that they weren't like off the table. I would have taken any of those three over Rutherford. And then I found this breakdown of his swing (from before the draft)
  9. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) I don't disagree with any of that. And at the time, I actually like that the front office went out and "got their guy" If it fails, it's really on them. They went down with the guys they believed in. I hated the trade at the time, I hated it even more when the A's got all three of Fowler, Mateo, and Kaprielian, but the move is done and now we have to hope Rutherford just had a bad year or needs a small adjustment because we're stuck with him.
  10. I feel like this is Hahn and DD using each other to leverage other deals. Hahn can go to the Cardinals or Rockies saying he has an offer for JBJ and Groome or Chavis and try to use the fact that he could get an established major leaguer to get better prospects. DD can use this to show the Marlins that they should move quickly and to hope someone on the 1B market decides to start the offseason before they know exactly what the market looks like.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 07:50 AM) I don't think it really matters about when but also more about for how much. Like Tim Anderson, he could sign after 2018 and sign a 5-year deal that pays him just a bit extra the first 2 years (pre-arb) and then buys out his 3 years of arbitration (so overall, a 5-year deal) as long as it's within reason. I would expect him to want to go to free agency as early possible since he is already forfeiting millions coming early anyway. At the same time, who knows if he would even want that early extension since he could theoretically earn more going year-to-year in arbitration. Yeah, I agree. Hearing how much he is supposed to make in marketing opportunities, I feel like it allows him to not worry about money during his first contract and so he won't sign anything that buys out any free agent years and will just try to hit the open market when he is 29. So any contract with him would just be to buy out his arb years and let teams have a guaranteed amount on the books.
  12. QUOTE (Real @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 04:43 AM) So can the Sox sign him to a multi-year deal? I know they can only spend up to 300k on him when they sign him, but that's one year. How would a multi-year deal work? Can you spread an international contract out past your money cap of 300k? Assuming they can, it would have to look something like, 4 years 70 million year 1 300,000 year 2 21,700,000 year 3 23,000,000 year 4 25,000,000 I have no idea how much money he's going to get, so don't put any stock into the 70 million He will get the same type of contract that any draft pick or international amateur free agent. The money that everyone keeps throwing around is the amount of the signing bonus that he can get. After than each team would have the same contract with him that would be six years of control with the first three at basically league minimum and the next three going through arbitration. Teams can sign him to an extension to buy out his arb years and maybe more and that contract could be for a good amount of money, but the question everyone is asking is how long does a team have to wait to offer that extension so that the league allows it and how is the league going to make sure that extension talks don't happen during the initial signing as a way to circumvent the rules. For example, the league probably wouldn't allow an extension after Ohtani's first game because they would say that it was probably agreed to during the initial signing. Likewise, they probably won't allow a contract that offers $200 mil for 5 years after his first year because that is more than can be expected in arb and doesn't get any free agent years, meaning it was probably agreed to during the initial signing. So long story short, whoever gets him gets him for 6 years on the same contract anyone from the minors gets but he will probably sign an extension at some point but no one knows when it will be allowed.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) When does he get posted again? http://m.mlb.com/news/article/262426850/sh...gins-this-week/ That article mentions that he is expected to be posted on Friday and then will have a 21 day window (so until Dec 21) to sign
  14. Any chance he likes rap music? We could ask Chance to write a song for him/have him on a track. Haha But actually, I have to assume they are going to do some type of video again and probably have Iguchi on it. Have him talk about how loyal JR is or something.
  15. I just can't wait for him to finally be posted so this offseason can actually start. He supposed to be posted Monday right?
  16. QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 06:33 PM) I'm gonna need a lot more than 1-for-1 deals with Avi and Abreu Yeah, same. I thought that was implied by saying "whoever else those trades net." I was just saying we could get replacements for the two guys we traded in the two trades. Hell, for the Abreu trade I'd start high and see if we could get Kelly and O'Neil.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 05:31 PM) I see Yurchak on one list and Fisher on none. There are good signs with Yurchak but I think everyone has been burned too many times getting excited over rookie ball numbers by college hitters. I thought I saw Fisher on 2, but I guess I just read the same one twice. I guess the bolded is true....but maybe this time is different haha. He actually had one of the top hit tools in the draft and I saw one article that had him rated as like the 6th best 1B in the draft. He's been pretty bad at fielding though. Does anyone know how his arm is or if the team is looking to shift him to the OF? I feel like he profiles a lot better in the OF corners than 1B/DH.
  18. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 05:22 PM) Let the Avi conversing continue! MLBTR released a well written summary today... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/look...rcia-trade.html I also thought it interesting to see a name like Paven Smith brought up within that article. Trade Avi to get Pavin Smith and trade Abreu to get Tyler O'Neil. You've effectively traded for younger players at each position with potentially more upside plus whoever else those trades net.
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Shohei Ohtani asked MLB teams to define his role https://t.co/jQVPKsDIcP https://twitter.com/HardballTalk/status/934567006254305280 Hopefully the White Sox kill the questionnaire like they did the Luis Robert presentation. It will be fun to watch what teams get invited to meet with him wherever he is staying.
  20. I'm surprised more people don't have Yurchak on their lists. He seems similar to Jameson Fisher, but has more power.
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 12:24 AM) Boston and STL make the most sense. STL has plenty of interesting prospects to offer. Sierra and Bader got some time on the big league club last season and O'Neill is about MLB ready, plus they have young pitching to offer. s***, STL has more than enough to trade for Abreu and Avi. Yeah, and I think a lot of Cardinals fans like Abreu. Two of the fan proposals I've seen that people thought was fair are Abreu for Carson Kelly & Jack Flaherty and Abreu for Carson Kelly, Magneuris Sierra, Jordan Hicks. Both of those seem pretty good, but I don't how much we value his leadership/mentorship
  22. I just saw this article about a possible Jose Abreu trade. It seems like for as little value he had last year, he has a ton this year. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/look...breu-trade.html
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) I didn't say anything about diet, I specified training. I wouldn't recommend the Twinkies diet personally. Unless your name is Tallahassee. Great reference. Also, if we got him, we'd be better suited sending him to train with Avi. He's a fellow Venezuelan who could show how important all out hustle is and what going from being in good shape to being in great shape can do.
  24. Red Line Radio. Its a couple of barstool guys shootin the s*** and talking Chicago baseball. They also get some good guests to come on and they always have great inside stories. Its not for everyone, but I like it. White Sox Dave also has some scoops so its fun hearing about it first a lot of times.
  25. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) That's correct. They can also use next year's bonus pool to do it. I'm pretty sure we can only go to $300k. I think it was Callis who corrected himself and said only $300k, so only $100k against our pool. I was really hoping it was going to be $500k but I'm pretty sure its not.
