  1. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) Sources: #Braves’ penalties will include loss of prospects. Story: https://t.co/37hSP0rcWr $ https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/930986548073566208 Unfortunately have to be a subscriber to read full article. Tho hopefully maitan is one of the prospects. Right before the article cuts off it does say Manfred hasn't determined which prospects would become free agents yet. It also says they would be subject to international bonus restrictions, so we'd be restricted to $300k. Seems like there are going to be a lot of prospects out there and not a ton of money to go around. Ohtani, Julio Pablo Martinez, Jelfry Marte, and whoever the Braves lose. I would think Martinez and Marte wait until next period to get more, but I feel like none of the current Braves guys would do that. They would basically be stuck without a team for half a year.
  2. A's just traded their 1B away and plan to move Khris Davis to DH. So now they have an opening in the OF for a right-handed hitting corner outfielder, but I don't know if the trade signals that they are rebuilding or if they are happy with Matt Chapman and Matt Olson in the infield corners.
  3. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Like 16 other teams did? Exactly. And for literally one game! How do we know we weren't there for every other game but our scout had food poisoning that night? We don't! Yeah, we can say its highly unlikely, but extrapolating from a single report about one game is ridiculous especially when most reporters have repeatedly said that every team will at least attempt to sign him.
  4. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) Is Rowand getting involved with the org somehow? I think that would be a good thing, always saw him as an underrated quality player. He seemed to know the fundamentals of the game very well. On the White Sox Talk podcast they said he was with the organization as a minor league outfield and baserunning instructor.
  5. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) If he's giving Madrigal a Bregman comp, all the more reason to take him. But he also said that if you think De Sedas can stay at SS, which the White Sox probably do because they have taken several guys with defensive questions, then he is the best of the three.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Can we please get rid of the idea that this is Takatsu or Tadahito? This isn't a mediocre and older free agent that isn't attracting much interest in the US. This is quite literally the biggest free agent play in he history of Japanese baseball. It isn't to be enough to get by on watching video's on Kenny's PC. There is zero to indicate the White Sox are involved at all, including their own actions. If there was anything other than WELL THEY COULD BE to go off of here, I could respect it, but there is quite literally zero, and meanwhile a most of the rest of baseball is doing stuff. There have been like a half dozen teams that have been mentioned with regards to a possible landing spot for Ohtani even though every baseball reporter is saying that all 30 teams will be talking to him. I think this is simply a case of nobody asking the Sox if we are doing anything because people don't give us a chance to sign him. The majority of teams that are mentioned are the big name clubs that are in everything and the clubs with the most momey. That's because that is easy reporting when no one really knows what he wants in a team. Not knowing what he wants in a team makes it at least possible that he can sign with any team, and almost everyone agrees with this sentiment.
  7. Longenhagen had another chat mentioning the 2018 draft. Asked to comp the shortstops in this class he compared it too the 2015 draft. Here's what he had to say:
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) No way they don't protect him. That was my exact thought when I read that. I already have him penciled in on the 40, along with Eloy Jimenez for obvious reasons.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) When does he actually get posted? After the new year? I don't think anyone knows. I think MLBPA still has to okay the extension of the posting agreement. After the system is in place they probably post him the next day.
  10. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) I'd rather the Sox hold on to him, unless someone is willing to overpay. What is there to lose? If 2017 was a fluke, no big deal- they probably wouldn't have gotten anything of significance for him anyway. The possibility that perhaps things finally did click for Avi is worth more to me than org filler. The guys being discussed as possible targets for Avi aren't org filler. They are guys that actually have a chance to be quality big leaguers or more.
  11. When can guys who were drafted last year be traded. Was it 6 months after the draft, so like mid-December? Because they have several guys who they just drafted who I would be interested in.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) I know people think this, but this isn't reality. Teams scouted the s*** out of a guy like Justin Verlander who has pitched for over a decade in MLB, but when he came out on the trade block, teams still flocked to see him. Oh I know they would definitely still scout him and I do think that if we thought we had a shot we would have been there, but if we do get a meeting with him that is how I would play the reason for us not being there.
  13. QUOTE (ron883 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:24 AM) I don't care what any damn fluff piece article says about Shohei not caring about money. 300k vs 3-8 mil is a HUGE difference, and it is the difference between being financially sound for your entire life. This kid could blow his arm out and then it is over. He won't be coming here for 300k. I'd love to live in fantasy land where it happens, but it aint happening. However, I think a HUGE indicator of there being a chance would be if the Sox hired Tadahito iguchi. Iguchi is looking to get into the managerial game, and he is beloved by the Sox. Once they sign him to a position, then we can start talking. Until then, I'm not holding my breath. Don't hold me to this, but I'm pretty sure he already got a job managing in Japan. It was announced like days after he retired.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) While true, I doubt he's thinking, "This team didn't come see me. They must not really want me." If teams are negotiating with him, they clearly want him. I don't think it's as much of an impact as you are making it to be. If I'm the White Sox and we sit down and he asks why we didn't come see him play if we were interested I say that we already saw everything we needed to from tape to know he is going to be a star. We could have sent someone out to watch, but why waste our scouts time when they can be scouting guys were unsure about so they can help us win a championship.
  15. So now there are reports that the Dodgers are going after Stanton, but also that he hasn't ruled out Boston or St. Louis. So basically everyone wants him and no one knows what he wants.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Oh ya, they'll handle if wonderfully. Next big name talk radio has been talking a lot about down here is...Jose Abreu. Wait, seriously?
  17. Anthony Gose - LHP who is a converted OF that hit triple digits off the mound last year. Could be a minor league free agent add with big upside if our pitching coaches can work their magic while also adding an interesting dimension to the major league team if we keep him for the contention window. He has played both CF and RF and is very fast, twice stealing 70 bases in a year. Could be a late inning defensive/base running replacement as well as a bullpen arm during the playoffs.
  18. So that basically puts the Giants in the drivers seat right? Padres and A's probably don't want the contract, Dodgers might not be able to afford it. Do the Angels try to make a run at him then?
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) I know, if Yoan can just make a bit more contact then that does everything. He's already hammering the ball when he hits it. Oh wait you meant the other possible superstar hitter. Yeah, but Luis Robert looks like he'll be a few years away. But it will be nice to have a CF with good power and hitting ability. Wait, you were talking about the other other possible superstar hitter.
  20. The only thing we have going for us for Otani is the fact that we might be able to give him a big extension the earliest, but thats playing so close to the line on breaking the rules that I don't know if Reinsdorf would even okay us trying to do it. Maybe we can hope the Cubs try to get him by selling him on the city and then we come in like "Hey, we're in the same city, but we can also let you DH on off days and we have the best pitching coach in the league."
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) There were at least two women who said that they were "romantically involved" with the account. Girls sent some random person they met on the internet naked pictures of themself/themselves. I know Te'o got catfished and a lot of people get duped all the time but I never knew women were getting duped too. I always the lonely guy was the typical target. It is absolutely mind-bottling to me that people have romantic relationships with people they never even meet or see on camera. I guess it's a very specific type of person who ends up in these kind of ordeals but I'm thankful that I will never be one of them. You should watch Catfish on MTV some time, its actually a pretty good show. Someone did a statistical breakdown of the series and about 2/3 of the catfish were women while victims were just about split. Also of note to this case, women were almost twice as likely to misrepresent their gender.
  22. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 05:24 PM) The 15-20% thing would apply to players 25 and over who would be eligible for MLB contracts as well. But not if they are international free agents after their 9th year (I think thats how it goes, correct me if I'm wrong.) So for the top guys who would get service time when they are 19 or 20, they would become free agents when they are lik 29, so there is only like a 4 year for them to get money from the player leaving. And even then, 20% at that point might be worth less than what they could get for a young, high potential guy right now where a team would be willing to pay the higher posting to have more cheap control. So it might not be worth the risk of the player not getting them as much money later for them to keep the player. I could also be off on all of this; I have a pretty rudimentary knowledge of NPB signing procedures.
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) Sherman now reporting that the MLB and NPB have a "tentative" agreement in place to extend the previous posting rules on more year, though nothing is final and the MLBPA has not yet been notified: http://nypost.com/2017/11/08/mlb-has-tenta...ne-hurdle-left/ I think the biggest problem was the MLBPA didn't want Otani to get screwed by having to leave money on the table, but once its made clear that he is willing to do that and doesn't care if his team gets more money than he does, everything will be resolved. What is interesting if how this will effect other Japanese players that might want to come over. If the previous deal is just extended a year and the next deal will have the percentage formula, NPB teams can probably get more now than a percentage of the small international caps.
  24. Longenhagen at Fangraphs had a prospect chat and was asked if 2019 SS Bobby Witt Jr. is the best HS draft prospect regardless of class. He said if you think De Sedas can stay at SS, De Sedas is better, but Witt is definitely a SS and has more offensive potential than Turang. That really says alot about De Sedas to me especially because we have shown a willingness to take guys with defensive questions.
  25. He is #22 on the Twins top 30 for MLBPipeline and #11 for the Twins on Fangraphs, though that one was from almost a year ago, so he'd probably be ranked lower just due to additions since then. 45 overall grade on MLBPipeline and a 40 FV on Fangraphs.
