JR makes money if you show. JR makes money if you don't show.
Where is the incentive to be excellent
-
Hold your management to a higher standard or they will take you for granted

Noooooow it's embarassing.
like the guy on Boogie Nights whose wife has sex in the driveway in front of a big crowd while he is off in the corner complaining

I don't know how anyone conjures up any excitement for this team in 2019? They are essentially AAAA ball for hopeful players to gain experience
-
I think they should sign Carlos Boozer

If you're going to do that, watch on your TV and stay away from games. That is ignorant.
Nope. I'm going to try to buy a ticket next to you

I know it would not be rational to boo Alonso and Jay all season but I'm not feeling very rational right now.

It was always kinda weird to me that suddenly the dodgers were worried about redundancy. Pederson is cheap and still complemented their team. Getting him for basically rehab projects was bizarre. But la has always liked some of our mid level/low prospects more than other teams.
equally weird that the story was being broke by a high school kid

The original rumor came from Peggy Kusinski’s kid, FWIW.
I’d venture to say this has some legs.
Only thing Peggy has broke in her professional career is some camera lenses

This is his con men are so successful: people want to believe

I was t saying it as a put down. It’s legitimately a high school kid as the source material

Rumor is by some high school kid. Wtf is wrong with people

my guess is that a contract value of $250 million would not make the top ten list of values Reinsdorf has negotiated in his professional life.
-
There was no way JR was going to let Boras take negotiations down the path he has seen Boras take with so many other owners in the past.
I think he saw Boras as a worthy adversary and relished this opportunity. It isn't surprising the Harper negotiations are at a stalemate.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but I am sure I saw a report at least a month ago and maybe longer that Reinsdorf would be leading all negotiations on these players. I think it was in reference to Harper at the time.
JR gets off on negotiating. He always has. He does with the Bulls as well. This is probably his last best chance to sink his teeth into something substantive

It makes great sense that JR is in the lead. Much easier to hammer out specifics without having to call the boss with every little thing that wouldn't necessarily be an automatic yes. He did PK's last deal, if I recall, and also most of Frank's, including the 5 year mutual option contract that was somewhat unique. He's a smart guy
didn't he also either create or re popularize deferred money contracts in baseball?

Mr. Reinsdorf is a self made billionaire and arguably the most powerful man in sports. He didn’t get there by accident. He is a shrewd but fair negotiator and admires the same. This isn’t bad development it just shows how big this is.
Fair, like when he tried to negotiate deals with Horace Grant and Scottie Pippen outside the presence of their agents
He is shrewd.

We all know Machado would love to play for the Yankees, but he’s unlikely to turn down tens of millions of dollars because A-Rod used to play there. Dan Clark is a fucking idiot.
What did A Rod do when he was presented with the same situation? He took the money. Hopefully he does give Machado advice
-
A threat is only a threat if the other side believes you will act upon it. Unlike Joe Ricketts, Rahm's momma didn't raise no fools.
-
any word from Wellington on this. He was supposed to be a close friend of Machado's as well and the Sox made curious moves at catcher all off season but kept him around.

I'm shocked to see Royce Clayton appear on only two ballots. That guy was a shit to the core.
1. Royce Clayton
2. Nick Swisher
3. Jose Canseco
4. Albert Belle
5. Jamie Navarro

The more telling thing, even beyond the dollars, is the Sox unwillingness to include a player opt out.
That has become an industry standard for big free agent contracts and the Sox are not willing to allow it. That means, as you stated, they will not be legitimate contenders for any big free agents
