It appears that he has rebuilt some value with the help of Cooper. I assume he cleared waivers while things were not going well and that he is currently free to move. I expect to see him on another team before the deadline for being eligible for the playoffs. There are still teams out there who need bullpen help, like the Diamondbacks.

After 10 years in the big leagues, benefits grow to $100,000 annually." No matter what a free 34,000 a year and lifetime healthcare; not a bad start to go with his minimum salary of 500,000 or so. Gonzalez has given up two runs in 13.1 innings against two highly likely playoff teams. He gets a third this weekend with Cleveland. I think if he can throw another great game, he is going to be sought after by more than one team before Monday afternoon.

While probably a complete pipedream, where would Willie Calhoun play? We do have that Moncada guy over at 2B, and Calhoun is knocking at the doorstep.

 

If trading with the Dodgers, what about one of their catchers? They have some redundancy there and while Will Smith was a high draft pick a couple of years ago, he's already been surpassed in rankings.

Kahnle too. And I get that we need to sell sell sell...but if teams don't match the price on these guys then only a few of them might move this deadline. I would say trade Frazier for whatever you can get since he's a free agent after this season. Same with melky.

I don't think you can cut the legs out from under a team in first place in July should that unexpected joy be presented to us. Still, if Hahn got offers he couldn't refuse, I think everyone would understand. He isn't going to get those for many players.

 

On the flip side, what do you do about acquiring players if they are in first place. I would hope they would be willing to acquire players where they are taking on salary but not trading a prospect.
