might as well have a drawing and let a couple of fans call the game

Lopez' emergence has provided the Sox a luxury in giving starters a rest without a drop in the quality of pitching. I wouldn't be surprised if each of our starters has a 10 day vacation before the playoffs. Two down, three to go, with Keuchel being the most obvious next man up.
-
If he won't make the playoff roster, then what are we doing giving him starts down the stretch over Lopez?
If he will make the playoff roster but not start, why are we not preparing him for his playoff role by putting him in a relevant role other than starter?

the sox need to develop a plan of usage that assures that Kuechel does not get to 160IP in one of these next two years
That may not be possible this year short of a six man rotation or a couple of skips in his rotational turns. It appears he would have about 8 more starts. If they can reduce that to 6 and never let him go more than 5 innings (which is completely justifiable given his present work), they just might be able to avoid that 4th year of his contract at 20 million

Kopech, Kimbrel and Hendriks finally did it right. If we get this this rest of the year it’s a 6 inning game when we’re a head. Kuechel, even though he settled down and somewhat decent still worries the shit out of me. Gives up too many home runs but he can field his position with best of them. THANK GOD we only need 3, maybe 4 starters he he may not be one of them.
Crochet has really heated up as well. His last two outings are 3.2 innings with 8 K

Just yesterday I was counting on Tepera for high leverage situations

Think of this...
Playoffs. Starter goes 3 innings
Sox go
Crochet 4th
Tepera 5h
Bummer 6th
Kopech 7th
Kimbrel 8th
Hendriks 9th
That is insane.
You forgot to include the regular season starter put into relief
Cease was good in that role last year

Crochet honestly kinda scares me in the playoffs but the fact that I believe Bummer will turn it around and we have Kopech, Tepara, Kimbrel, Hendriks.... I mean come on.
he'll be in low leverage, early middle inning roles or strategically used against certain hitters

Jesus. Run ReyLo out for the 1st 2 innings, and then the top end of the pen.
Finished in 1 hour

Do we have any 7 inning games left?
Those could be fun to attend. Don't get up to go to the bathroom

Did the Cubs eat any money?

But you know what? Win 1 world series and the investment strategy has paid off several times over.
A world series justifies every move made in its pursuit.

Oh really? We can trade Kimbrel for 3-4 WAR?
Yes, really.

No need to anymore.
I mean Hendriks one night and Kimbrel the next each going 2

Tony Larussa will be at the forefront of a trend of two inning saves
-
If the Sox choose, they could put Kimbrel on the market in the off season and receive an offer of similar value from multiple suitors
-
I think this also helps to clear up the playoff rotation.
Start Keuchel and limit him to one time through the order. Follow him with Cease, Crochet, Tepera, Kopech, Kimbrell and Hendriks.
-
Yes, I believe we are done
-
I would like the Sox to keep Keuchel from getting to that 160 IP mark for his 2023 option

Pineda would be a good move on the cheap. I think we could use someone to take some starts over the next two months

It's actually a little concerning that the Sox might be going with a "This time we will keep everyone healthy approach".
If Kopech wasn't going to be transitioned to a SP, then a new SP probably should have been on the radar. What if Rodon runs out of steam? Cease cant be counted on yet. Giolito has not been an Ace this year.. and with our bullpen being so weird this year if one of them has a 'meh' playoff outing.. that might be the series right there.
One injury to one of our top 3 SP and we are probably toast. Scherzer would have been an excellent fit for this team, as would Trea Turner. It's really a shame how weak our system looks and how teams like LAD and SD can seemingly make infinite trades and still have players teams want. Our blue chippers are limited to guys like Kelley and Thompson.
The Sox should really be trying to land Kimbrel and Bryant at this point but that doesnt seem possible at all. Gonna be a rough time around here if the Sox get bounced in the first round again.
I think a guy like Rich Hill would have been a great fit and he went for nothing
-
I'll predict that in a surprise move the Sox trade for an additional back end starter to move to a six man rotation over the last two months in the hopes to limit innings
-
anyone have any info on why Hernandez would be considered a utility player with 843 of his 910 games at 2B?
Is he so good at 2b (as a GG might indicate) that they wouldn't play him elsewhere, even though he is capable of it?
-
an anti Daniel Burnham move
I don't hate it but our probable playoff opponents all seemed to have made significant upgrades for the same small price
Rodon Contract Value

There are many, very big pitching names in free agency next year. Rodon will have to wait a long while for all of those to be hashed out before someone swoops in on him as a cheap alternative.
He could be the big name in 2023 free agency if he bet on himself in what is likely to be a strike shortened season.
