  1. So I was on a run and thinking about a potential Machado to the White Sox contract. I thought to myself, “Man, I think the White Sox should give Manny 10-year, $325 million.” Then I thought, “That seems like a lot.” I started thinking about the potential revenue that Machado alone could bring to the franchise, though. I’m no math wiz, but here’s what I came up with. Average of 2,000 per game attendance increase at an average of $20 a ticket: $3.24 million per season. Assume 1,500 of those people park at $20 per spot: $2.43 million. Assume each one of those people spends an average of $15 on food: $2.43 million. That alone is roughly $8.5 million per year in park revenue just from the Machado addition. Not even including retail sales. And I’m sure my numbers are way off, but that’s what I came up with.
  2. If it’s between the Sox and Phillies, this could be coming to an end soon. if he’s just going after the most money, I think the Phillies will offer the most. if it’s a combo of money + other factors, I like the White Sox chances.
  3. If he really is seeking $300 million+, then I feel good that the Yankees are not involved.
  4. I’m starting to think the Yankees have set a firm total dollar amount in which they’re willing to pay. Because the Yankees know they already have a really good left side of the infield. They obviously know Machado makes any team better, but how much better can an already 100-win team get? So Machado’s agent probably keeps going back with different numbers and the Yankees are firm at that $200 million and this could be a last second effort to say “Manny will sign with the White Sox or Phillies if you don’t up the offer.” So we probably just have to wait and see if the Yankees bite or stay firm.
  5. I think a lot of the offers so far are probably closer to $200 million than $300 million, and at this point the Machado camp is waiting for that one team to say “you know what, we’ll go $280 million.” And once they get to that point, they either just accept, or that becomes the new bar.
  6. If the reports are true, and they are still looking for a $300 million deal, I actually think that is good news for the White Sox. Because if it’s true that the Yankees are around $200 million, then this probably takes them out of the running. Sox might not go $300 million, but I could see them in the $270 million range, which I still don’t think the Yankees touch.
  7. So today’s smoke is Machado to the Phillies. This is tiring.

  9. Just saw a guy on Twitter post that he got a Scoop that Manny Machado will be signing with the White Sox. He seemed pretty angry about it, too. He has 0 followers, and follows 8 people, but whats interesting is that he is a Yankees fan. He's also had the account for about 2 years and mainly follows Yankees people. At this point I am grasping at anything.
  10. I really believe that the White Sox have the top offer. I think the Yankees are trying to get a gauge on how likely they think it is that Machado would sign with us.
  11. Cubs would be surprising, especially if they don't have the money for Harper. Cardinals always seem like a team to watch out for. I dont see the Dodgers unless they plan on moving Turner and insisting that Machado plays 3B. I am under the impression that Bryce will return to the Nationals, and they already gave Corbin a bunch of money. I dont see the Padres or Twins unless they throw out offers you simply just cannot refuse.
  12. The Manny chatter on Twitter seems quiet this morning... A little too quiet.
  13. I could realistically see a scenario where we see Madrigal late in the season. Start the year in Birmingham, then around June gets promoted to Charlotte, and then late August to September he gets the call.
  14. I dont know why he would turn down that much money, but if Machado chooses the Yankees, he is going to be leaving a lot of money on the table from the Sox and Phillies. Is it $50 million, I dont know, but he'll leave a lot of money on the table regardless.
  15. It does, but assuming all the offers will equal, I think its a safe assumption that Manny would choose the Yankees over the White Sox. So over the same 7-year period, how much more do we need to spend?
  16. So lets say the Yankees are at 7-year, $220 million and the Sox are at 7-year, $270 million, do we think that is enough for us to land him?
  17. That’s what I’ve been thinking, and I think I mentioned it earlier, but I think we all know the Sox will most likely have a higher offer than the Yankees. It’s more of a matter of how much more money do we need to offer. $30 million, $40 million, $50 million...?
  18. Yeah, you’re right. I went back and read through, not much smoke, more just opinions.
  19. So now all the smoke is around the Yankees again today? I don’t know how much longer my heart can take this.
  20. I would also do that deal, but I dont know if the Sox go beyond 7 years.
