Machado signs with Padres 10/300

I dont know if he would sign it immediately, but if all these reports about offers are true, I think that would all but get it done. -

Here is where I’m at with Machado. I think it is down to the Yankees and White Sox. I think the Yankees have an offer around 5-year, $150 million. White Sox have an offer at about 7-year, $200 million. White Sox offer is better in terms of years and overall money. However, Yankees are a better team right now, and he’ll be able to sign his next huge contract two years sooner than he would with the Sox. I think the highest the Sox would go is $250 million and the highest the Yankees will go is $200 million over a different amount of years. -

This whole process is becoming very tiring... But I cannot seem to pry myself away from this board for any considerable amount of time. Hope we get some news soon! Lots of little pieces of info seem to be trending positively towards the White Sox I’d say. -

I think that I have fully given up on Harper. In my opinion, the Cubs and Nationals have always been the favorites. I just dont see the Cubs getting rid of the contracts, so at this point I think it's just Boras driving up the price by keeping teams like the Dodgers an White Sox "in it". I think Bryce ultimately signs a 10-year, $330 million deal with Washington.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300

I kind of took that quote as Manny’s agent has a specific number (probably pretty high) and the first team to bite will get Machado. -
Two weeks I would’ve said no doubt that Harper goes to the Dodgers, now, I have no idea. It seems like Boras is holding firm at a specific dollar amount and no team is even coming close to it.

Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
KnightsOnMintSt replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Finally some smoke around the White Sox. This is good news and like someone already mentioned, there really isn’t as much of an incentive for him to plant this story, and he didn’t try to break it on Twitter. Seems like a very innocent nugget that he just happened to be passing along. -

That Sherman thread makes me a little more confident. Also like that he said we could hear something this week. -

Tulo is not a long term piece for the Yankees, I think everyone knows that. But assuming the Yankees sign Machado, there will be such a log-jam on the left side of the infield. It all but ensures that the Yankees would have to trade Didi or Andujar. I don’t at all think that this signing means they’re out on Machado, but there will be 1 or 2 players moved if they do sign Machado. Plus I just still can’t stop thinking about why Tulo would want to sign with NY knowing that they could soon be signing one of the best players in the game at the same position. I’m starting to think this was a leverage move from the Yankees. They’re already one of the best teams in baseball and have a lot of talent at SS and 3B. With this move, I could see the Yankees offering something like 8-year, $200 million and just saying take it or leave it. -

I was thinking the same thing. A lot of people just seem very willing of the idea to get rid of a young, controllable, player that had a very nice season last year. -

Another thing that seems to get overlooked is that Didi is coming back mid-season. Does he get traded once he comes back from the DL? Does Andujar get flipped regardless? Going to be pretty crowded on that roster if they also sign Manny. -

That’s what I’m thinking. Either this was Tulo’s only MLB offer, or the Yankees have a couple different potential deals in place where they could flip Andujar for pitching. Other than that, I am not sure why Tulo would want to join a crowded infield. -

Obviously the Yankees could still sign Manny, but what’s more curious to me is why Tulo would want to sign with the Yankees knowing that Manny will sign with New York. -

Tulo obviously knows that the Yankees have good, young, infield talent AND that they’re interested in Machado. Do we think that he would sign there knowing they could be also announcing the signing of someone that plays the same position as him? -

Tulo is signing with the Yankees. That seems somewhat significant... -
I guess they would do it if they consider Harper a considerable asset to their team on and off the field.
-
It doesn't have to be those 2 necessarily. The Cubs have a lot of good young pieces, and throwing in one or two of them should sweeten the pot for most teams. It just a matter of how willing the Cubs are to include certain players.
-
I dont think moving Heyward would be that difficult for the Cubs. The difficulty comes from how willing the Cubs are willing to move young players with Heyward. If the Cubs were to add in Happ and Contreras, I'm sure there would be a good number of teams that would be all over that.

Offseason plan in the event the Sox don't get HarpChado

Assuming we miss out on Machado, I would really like to see the Sox sign A.J. Pollock and Adam Ottavino
