  1. Of course Kenny Williams also called him an asshole and Jerry Manuel bounced him from spring training. It wasn’t just dumb Sox fans that didn’t like the guy.
  2. Nah, he dragged them out of the dumpster in his first tenure. The Kessinger era was awful.
  3. Comparing LaRussa and Lamont is apples and oranges. Lamont took over a team on the rise that had finished second two years in a row and was loaded with Thomas, Ventura, McDowell, etc. LaRussa took over a dumpster fire from player-manager Don Kessinger. This is not to admire LaRussa but he always was a superior manager to Gene Lamont. Also in his recent stint here he was clearly senile and out of his league.
  4. I think when people say the game has passed you by it is in relation to his peers. It doesn’t mean that people who haven’t been in the game don’t know the game. I’m skeptical that the most knowledgeable fan here would be able to step in and be successful managing. Doesn’t mean they don’t know the game but it does mean they don’t quite know it at the level of successful, active managers. Also, do we know of a case where a manager or coach left the game for a player while and was successful upon returning? I can’t think of a case but there must be one.
  5. LaRussa should get credit for Oakland. LaRussa turned Eckersley into a Hall of Fame reliever from being a middle of the road starter. He developed three or four ROY in a row. He’s a POS and the game passed him by but he deserves credit for Oakland. Of course he was aware of the steroid use there so he should be tarred and feathered for that.
  6. I was a fan when Hawk fired LaRussa and I don’t remember fans being overjoyed. They were dancing in the streets when Hawk quit.
  7. Too long out of the game. The game passes everyone by when they’re gone. Phil Jackson, Bill Parcells, Bill Walsh, Pat Riley. Baseball is no different in that respect.
  8. The first step was 2019 when they didn’t sign Harper. And they played games with him. Any dreams anybody had at this being a serious franchise should have been dashed at that point.
  9. He even sucks at dodging and deflecting. He sucked at hitting, sucked at player development, sucks at building a team, sucks at media management, has a goofy deer-in-the-headlights look on him perpetually. Is there anything he’s good at?
  10. Lighting a fire would not make up for the lack of talent but it would at least make the effort more aesthetically pleasing.
  11. I don’t doubt you but it’s really unbelievable given the business of baseball. Of course no one would win with this team but shouldn’t they signal to the fans that they care a little bit? (In theory of course, I know Reinsdorf hates Sox fans.)
  12. Every day I come here expecting to read he’s been relieved of his duties. Yet here we are in the middle of June and nothing.
  13. One playoff appearance in a real season and an embarrassing playoff exit is no reason for optimism. The data we have show that the White Sox cannot develop players or keep them healthy. There’s no reason to believe that has changed in the last six years. In fact all the evidence seems to support that they have regressed in both these areas.
  14. Had to be that Getz knew him from KC, no?
  15. At this point keep him. Who doesn’t want to see history made? We can always say we were around when the Sox lost 130 games.
  16. In 2024 and beyond who really cares if the team you root for up and moves unless you’re a season ticket holder. You can stream, still use satellite and cable, you can watch them more than you ever could have in the past.
  17. I don’t know what this even means but it’s just hilarious to watch anyway
  18. Of course 1994 had the season cancelled when the White Sox were poised to reach the World Series. The person spearheading the shutdown was Reinsdorf. He doesn’t get credit for anything post 1994.
  19. I hope they move and the city is indifferent. That’s the hope I cling to at this point.
  20. There’s no real evidence to suggest Reinsdorf wants to win baseball games.
