  1. I’m embarrassed for the guy (Grifol) thinking anyone is taking him seriously. The fans haven’t for over a year, the media doesn’t and now the players are openly flipping him off. Does he think he is fooling people or is this sincere stupidity?
  2. Not fair to harp on the losses??? You lost four in a row at home. You’re on pace to lose 120 games. What would be fair to harp on? Holy crap!!! What a moron.
  3. This is a great article. The writer can’t figure out who it is writing about.
  4. The first manager I knew was Don Kessinger. Since then it is Bevington and Grifol at the bottom. I’m not sure who is worse.
  5. I’m glad I didn’t take the same approach in my short and pretty unsuccessful boxing career.
  6. This is correct. In all likelihood Baltimore gets the next out and that’s it. The umpires blew the call but did not steal a win from the Sox. I wish Grifol would have played under protest so they could have wrapped it up with one at bat the following day.
  7. Don’t know if this has been covered but why didn’t he play under protest at that point?
  8. The owner of the largest contract in team history?
  9. It was also a treat every time he would accuse those skeptical of Sammy Sosa’s newfound power of being hopeless and bitter.
  10. I remember a fun message board called JayTheJoke.com. My favorite Mariottism was when he wrote that Scott Skiles owed Shaq a debt of gratitude for his single game assist record. I wrote Mariotti and told him I was impressed with his sources, because Shaq was a sophomore at LSU at the time - so Mariotti must have had insider knowledge of Shaq giving Skiles a pep talk.
  11. I stopped listening a long time ago but it was hilarious when Ronjey hosted the postgame and the drunks would call in.
  12. Could have lost that game. Six of their seven wins have been by two or less.
  13. There was no bigger Sox fan than my mother. She probably attended 5-10 games her entire life. So you have more disposable income and more time on your hands than others. You must be proud of yourself.
  14. The Sox have won five of their six wins by two or less, one in extra innings. Their Pythagorean W-L is 7-24. They aren’t losing a lot of tough games. They are at the bottom of both leagues in run differential. What is this post? Root for them if you want but don’t tell people - who suffered through a rebuild, expected to have a championship window and get one playoff appearance - not to air their complaints.
  15. I’m so out of the loop … I had to look him up. Thought he might be a player. What are the TV ratings this year? They have to be down from last year, no?
  16. He played 59 games before arriving in Chicago at age 35. He maxed out at 108 after. It was a miracle he was relatively healthy while he was in Chicago.
  17. Seaver wasn’t really washed up when they signed him. He was a couple years removed from a Cy Young and was pretty productive with the Sox. Thome was productive but I think that was by accident. The rest were typical waste of time.
  18. It goes back to at least the 80s. They signed George Foster, Steve Carlton, Charlie Hough, Jose Canseco in the 90s.
  19. I really believe the AAA team at the major league level would be more watchable. You would at least see guys not going through the motions. And they would have won 3 out of 23 games.
  20. Nobody could win with this time but Grifol couldn’t win with the ‘27 Yankees. And, yes, even in a punt year (which they couldn’t afford remember) Getz had a responsibility to at least put competent players on the team. He should be fired first. I’m enjoying watching other teams this year and getting to know them better.
  21. Yeah when I was a kid we always stuck the worst player in LF.
  22. Why is Benitendi the proud owner of the largest contract in team history? He can’t hit, can’t field. What good is he?
  23. True. Forgot about that stretch. They were cheated in 1992. So about 30 years.
  24. In all likelihood absolutely nothing. Pittsburgh has been floundering since 1979. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Sox still floundering in 2035, thirty years after their last World Series.
