  1. I have a soft spot in my heart for Farmer. He called me after I sent him a fan letter as a young child. I can still remember the look on my dad’s face when he answered the phone. I still can’t forgive Al Cowens to this day.
  2. I thought they were saying that long before this announcement? The whole season all I read was fan’s apathy. The last two years actually. I don’t think this is what broke the camel’s back.
  3. Look around you, this franchise is already destroyed. They just lost 100+ games in their contention window. The north side rival won and rebuilt and hired what many consider to be the top manager in the game in the same time period. They have all the fans and all the attention. I would not be at all surprised to see this franchise in Nashville in the next decade and an expansion team here. (Not saying I expect it but I think there’s a better chance of them moving to Nashville than being in the playoffs by 2030.)
  4. No. They were in second place at the White Flag trade. They were 2.5 years away from competing. They are looking at 100 losses the next couple of years. The minor league system is a disaster. They are nowhere close to competing. Not a valid comparison.
  5. Based on overall comments I think most are just indifferent to the entire organization. They certainly wouldn’t be happy but I doubt they could muster the strength to be angry at this point.
  6. Why did he leave the last two after just one year?
  7. I'm not sure that there is anything in his post playing career that would suggest this.
  8. The only ones with managing experience were Torborg who managed Cleveland during a nap, Renteria who the Cubs tossed out with the rest of the trash, and drunken old washed up LaRussa. Now they have a clown as GM. This is not a serious organization. Hasn't been for at least 30 years.
  9. I disagree. I think any manager worth anything would have had Reinsdorf and Hahn/Williams numbers blocked. LaRussa was their ceiling. Turns out they would have been better off with Renteria.
  10. I’m sure they would consider signing Ohtani. $10 million annual salary with the potential to earn $2 billion per year in unattainable incentives. Then say “Welp, we tried. Can’t blame us for trying.”
  11. I’d rake David Caruso over Grifol.
  12. Why would a credible manager join the Sox? We went through this during the Renteria years when people were pining for Girardi or Francona or Bochy or Hinsch. Credible managers will not come here. Rick Renteria is the best Sox fans can hope for.
  13. Roberts played in 145 games last year. That is an aberration for him. He was 98 and 68 the two previous years and always banged up in the minors. If/when he goes down and Cease is hurt or traded 50 wins seems highly likely. Unless they did the smart thing and do another “The kids can play”. At least you would have a bunch of guys actually trying. I don’t think Grifol could pull that off, though.
  14. Don’t they lose Cease after 2024? He’s a 3 for a decent team but he’s the Sox top starter. I think it could get worse after 2024. This franchise has not hit rock bottom yet.
  15. They may not steal half the fan base but half the fan base may be permanently disinterested and they are not going to grow any new, young Sox fans. What kid in his right mind would root for the Sox?
  16. These days I get more enjoyment watching the local high school teams than I do watching the pros.
  17. This is mostly true but those Royals teams were historically good at not striking out. That is what set them apart for those years. https://www.billjamesonline.com/contact_speed_and_the_2014_royals/
  18. Has any team ever signed 6-10 players that turned its fortunes around in one off season? They have anywhere from five to seven position holes and at least three starting pitching holes and bullpen. I can’t remember when they last made one impact free agent signing, let alone ten.
  19. They had 20% of the list last year and he’s worse now than when he was with the Sox. Does Garfein think shortstop and third base don’t need fixing? Left field is solid? There are too many holes on this team. They are not getting filled.
  20. The Yankees haven’t been to the World Series since 2009. They are almost in Soxville. The Dodgers went 29 years between appearances before 2017/2018. The Royals have the same recent experience. So do the Rangers. I think “perpetually” is a stretch.
  21. That was probably at the height of my Cub hatred and that team was very easy to hate. I remember those sweeps well.
