Taking a hiatus at the end of the baseball season
FloydBannister1983 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A great scene in a great movie that opened my eyes as a young man. Thanks for posting. -
That game was June 7, 2014. https://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/batter_vs_pitcher.cgi?batter=troutmi01&pitcher=salech01

Apparently. You've convinced me.
-
Are you going to quote half of a sentence? Or visit my profile again?
-
Based on your recent posts today in this thread it is certainly in character for you to read only half of a sentence.
-
I concur. I am often confused when mods cite statistics incorrectly. My error. You've convinced me based on your modified definition of the statistic that the umpires are out to screw a guy who has never had a problem with the umpires. Very well reasoned.
-
I must be confused. I thought the stat said "on the edges or outside". Unless 100% of those pitches are fully outside that does not make all 38 of those pitches bad calls. You quoted the statistic, you should actually read it's definition.
-
That's not actually the statistic. You're ignoring half of it's definition.
-
I would tend to agree with your points. The major difference being the Astros replaced their front office before the start of the 2012 season. So did the Cubs. I'm not sure that the people who drove the car into the ditch can be counted on to tow it out of the ditch.
-
Fan O'Faust - I forgive you for assuming you could have a "narrow conversation" about Moncada and not a high level, broader discussion about the rebuild in a thread titled "Moncada".
-
I'm sorry I must have read wrong. I thought you said "They'd also never make a major, franchise-altering trade with the Cubs." I'd consider Sosa for Bell a major, franchise-altering trade with the Cubs.
-
Sammy Sosa and George Bell called to say hello. Jon Garland as well. Experiment ... The White Sox will never, ever upgrade their current front office.
-
Please point me to where I quoted stats of two players and made a comparison. Thanks in advance. Try reading the entire thread.

Lopez’s Perfect Game(thread)
FloydBannister1983 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
The high xFIP suggested he was eventually going to get hit hard. -
Coming from an admitted pessimist ... I was talking with a friend about this the other day. I know I'm a pessimist but based on anecdotes like this I don't think this team has a chance in this city any longer. You're going to have kids growing up and knowing nothing but Cubs success and White Sox failure for 15+ years. Those that are White Sox fans by birth won't be able to find White Sox attire. The state is going broke and not likely to give them a sweetheart deal when the lease is up. Who is going to root for this team in 2030? I've been thinking nonstop about this since 2016. Do they have to move?

Interesting read coming from a former Gold Glove winner. He knows a thing or two about fielding.
-
But I don't see that the OP has said he won't be good. Granted I could have missed that post. I went back and looked and he's said that the two aforementioned players have performed better this year and he agreed with another poster that Ray Durham would be a reasonable comp and that he won't be as good as Mike Trout (not many will be). That sure doesn't seem like doom and gloom.
-
I'm not sure how positively quoting some statistics of some other players = doom and gloom.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again

The embarrassment is that the Cubs, while tanking, were still outdrawing the all-in White Sox by about a million fans per season. -
+1 It is impossible to believe he just started experimenting with the stuff in 1998.

It does when the people in charge of the train wreck are still engineering the shiny new train.
