  1. So we are at the Ted Williams' frozen penis point of the offseason I see. We need a rumor.
  2. It's a fair argument. I admittedly don't know much about Dahl's defense but fangraphs shows him to be pretty comparable to Schwarber in terms of sucking in the outfield.
  3. Your scenario assumes Vaughn takes the DH role and runs with it, which would be great. What if he struggles? Then your playoff DH is David Dahl? I'd rather have Schwarber. I'm talking about filling the DH role, not filling a 4th OF role with Dahl.
  4. I understand the luxury that a more passable OF provides in terms of lineup flexibility, but we are talking about the DH spot. You want the best hitter. Leury and Engel provide defensive OF depth. If the Sox sign or trade for an everyday RF, let's just say Joc, then who do you propose we use at DH (taking Vaughn out of the equation)? Which specific FAs do you prefer to DH instead of Schwarber? I'm not saying he should be option #1, but he should be considered.
  5. McCann earned this contract. Good for him. Gonna miss the luxury of having him and Grandal. Happy to see him go to a non-rival, if he does indeed go to the Mets. Surprised to see him possibly signing a deal before Realmuto. Wonder who will sign JT, if not the Mets.
  6. I'm not saying he's option #1, but I'm curious who you think should be DH next season? Ideally it's Vaughn, but that's no guarantee. Although I will say I am optimistic Vaughn will be a productive hitter in 2021.
  7. Schwarber as a DH placeholder until Vaughn is ready makes sense for the Sox in 2021. -LH Bat -Can play LF a couple times a week or everyday when Eloy hits the IL. (Quite frankly he's a better LF than Eloy but the Sox want to give Eloy the reps out there) -No guarantee that Vaughn will be ready to be in the everyday lineup this year. Schwarber is not a perfect option but he does make sense on a cheap 1-year deal. If Vaughn is ready and mashing at the MLB level, Schwarber will be expendable. But if Vaughn isn't ready to be hitting everyday for a team that expects to be in the World Series, there are worse DH options than Schwarber on a 1-year deal. I'm fine with it.
  8. Correct. Any additional Wheeler dollars would have been bidding against themselves. The Sox set the market but Wheeler wanted east coast. Furthering your bid to pay a "mid west tax" when there were other, cheaper options available would have been terrible business.
  9. Anyway this thread is derailed and I've contributed to that so I'll stop. We all want the same thing: the sox to win. Obviously we have different outlooks on their willingness to make that a reality for the fans. But at the end of the day, we just want a winner so no reason to be at eachother throats. Hopefully the ball gets rolling on Springer and some legit rumors start being floated.
  10. Then stop discussing sports. Go volunteer to save the world. You're happy to blame the insanely wealthy for sports being played but happy to sit on a computer discussing those sports daily. Interesting.
  11. Jack, you constantly told us there would be no baseball in 2020. In fact, you said baseball was done until 2023. Forgive me if I dont share your negative outlook on the world.
  12. This is a white sox fan message board. The white sox are a young team with hopefully bright years ahead. If we can't come here and discuss the possibility of signing big free agents, then what's the point of being a fan/posting here. I understand the history of the team as well as anyone. I never said they are going to spend at the top of the market. But I'm also not ruling it out and I'm certainly willing to have fun discussing it with other sox fans. Save your pity for me, please. I'm a big boy.
  13. Why is this thread open? I'm serious. If posters get ridiculed for suggesting the Sox have a shot to sign Springer and aren't doom and gloom. Then why even have a thread to discuss it?
  14. That's just bad business. You don't just keep tacking on dollars until he signs. But, like I said, status quo around here is the sky is falling. And you all are just making my argument for me.
  15. Did they not have a 125 million dollar deal on the table for Wheeler in the same off-season that resulted in those 4 being signed? An offer that was top of the market but fell through for other reasons. The Sox put themselves in a position to compete. So far, it's going according to plan. I tend to want to have fun with it and see how this plays out rather than assume everything sucks. But to each their own I guess.
  16. So you agree that sox fans have every reason to be upset right now? Or, should we maybe just chill out a little bit and enjoy the ride? See where this goes. Sox are in a great position right now.
  17. Every reason to be upset? Lol get a grip. This team is loaded with talent and payroll flexibility. Let's see it play out.
  18. So what I said is correct then? Status quo is for the sky to be falling. Due to the sox never coming through in free agency. I'm confused at your point.
  19. So why even have a George Springer thread? Just lock the thread now if it's pointless to discuss.
