Yes, my thinking as well. I'm guessing Manfred and Clark hammered out the deal and now the proposal has officially been sent to the players.
-
All other reporters indicating a deal is NOT finalized. Heyman sticking to his guns.

MLB owners seem vehemently opposed to losing a substantial amount of money. The negotiations have gotten ugly and its fair to criticize the owners and Manfred for how bad this has gotten. They're going to play baseball this season. Everything you read is part of the negotiation.
-
They're playing soccer in England and baseball in Korea. England's death rate far exceeds the US on a per capita basis. Every major American sport has a return to play plan already in motion except MLB. MLB is the outlier because of $ negotiations. There are your fucking facts.

Abreu is signed through 2022. Vaughn won't be in the Bigs until 2021 at the earliest. Eloy can hold down LF for 2 more seasons. Not to mention, according to you, baseball is cancelled until 2023.

My God, just go away. Please.

A lot to like about that write-up. This is an exciting pick. The upside is tantalizing and fits in with our contention window. Between Giolito, Kopech, Cease, Crochet, Lopez, Dunning, and Stiever the Sox have a young, competitive group of starting pitchers for the next several seasons. It's nice to add a lefty to that mix as well. -

If the Sox lost 2 more games last season, Veen would be on the board for them ? -

The players simply are not going to get full pro-rated salary for 80 games. It isn't happening. They're going to concede to a certain percentage of full pay at some point, it's just a matter of how many games they settle on.

I really hope Bob is wrong on this regarding how the union is reacting to this offer. Each side has to give a little. Let's get this thing done.

Agree, I think they need an agreement in place by next Friday, June 12th at the latest. They'll reach a deal next week.
-
a 50-60 game schedule is a sham in my opinion. Glad to see negotiations are moving forward though. I'm optimistic a deal is reached this week.
-
This was always going to get ugly publicly before a deal was agreed to. The progress of these negotiations appears to be pretty bleak, but I am still optimistic they will figure this thing out. Too much to lose by not getting a deal done.

It's an interesting debate. A high upside HS player could replenish the lower levels, which really need it. However, look how college players helped build the sox back in the day with McDowell, Ventura, and Thomas in consecutive drafts in the top 10 picks. Madrigal, Vaughn, and a college player this year (top 11) could be that for this current team. I'd go high school. Bat or Arm. Take the top overall player.

Being "right" isn't leverage. The agreement they made is based on the payment structure once baseball resumes. Baseball still hasn't resumed, therefore, there's no violation of the agreement. There's nothing forcing Manfred to resume the season under the current agreement. If there's no season, there's no paychecks for the players. The players want paychecks. They don't hold a ton of leverage.

Yeah, transparency from the owners regarding revenue streams certainly would help. I'm not sure how common that is in MLB or other sports during CBA negotiations to even know if this is something owners would consider doing. Passan cited 40 % in his article, which is why I used that figure. Although he did say some reports indicate it may be in the 30's. Either way, I think there is enough public data regarding revenue for the PA to make an educated calculation of local revenue loss for the teams. Nobody said 'half' so I'm not sure why you decided to throw that inaccurate number out there? The fact is, if the players want a paycheck this year, they're likely going to have to compromise because they don't have a ton of leverage. Some data shows that the 50/50 split may not even be a compromise at all for the players, strictly in terms of dollars and cents in 2020, although it does shift the risk.
