Highlight of the day.
That framing is beautiful, too

My wet dreams still consist of some combination of Tyler Johnson, Ian Hamilton, and Zach Burdi in the 7th, 8th, and 9th.

I was there to witness it in person today. The guys bat looked insanely slow
Like, how many nanoseconds slower would you say you noticed with your naked eyes?
3 nanoseconds? More? Less?

If Mazara was in the Sox lineup last year and hit his career average he would have been our 6th best hitter, and a huge improvement in RF.
Now with Encarnacion and a rookie Robert, I'll take a .750 OPS out of the 7/8 hitter.

And that was always going to happen. And even though that one isn’t a prime optimization of resources, I get it too and it shouldn’t kill us or anything.
Agreed. Clubhouse guy and team chemistry are important.
But still, the only contact that raises my eyebrows this offseason.
People were worried, thinking the signings were too similar to what we had been doing. Truth is that even Gio is the best free agent, in my mind, that we've acquired in years.
And he's probably the 4th best of the offseason.

Yeah, it's perfect.
Only deal I haven't liked has been the Abreu contact.

Ball hung up forever. Not a super difficult play, but exciting nonetheless. Way better than the alternative.

Wait, is this a thing? He changed his swing when he got sent back down? I have been extremely busy with the new house and haven't been following the minors or this website as much as I normally do recently.
Swing and approach. Swing is shorter and faster by a tick, and he's swinging early in the count. Not walking at an insane 20%+ anymore, but 13-15% is still damn good.

So close... what happens now???

Robert, Madrigal, Moncada, and Collins in the same lineup, eh?
Don't forget the Yerminator!

Remember this?

You bat Robert first because he’s the best hitter on the team* and you bat your best hitter first because you’re guaranteeing that he gets the most plate appearances over the course of a game but a 162 game season.
*****I know his numbers are insane and other worldly but it’s the numbers that we have.*****
Then why did Frank Thomas always bat 3rd?

Per Sox Machine, Charlotte hitting coach Frank Menechino:
“Nothing,” said Knights hitting coach Frank Menechino when asked what Robert has improved. “He hasn’t improved nor gotten better, he’s been the same since he’s got here. And that’s pretty good, right? How much is he going to improve with 200 at-bats in Triple A? I don’t know.”
Pretty bold split from the party line
He knows there's absolutely nothing he can teach him.

Wonder if they go the IF route. Move Leury back to CF. I don't even dare want to say it, but I wouldn't be surprised if Escobar or Goins makes an appearance.
Two words: Mendick!

He got hit on the jersey. Not even sure it hit his body. It was chest high and he leaned out of the way, but it got his jersey solidly.
How long is he expected to be out?!

If Rodon was a free agent this offseason, what kind of offers do you think he'd get?
What's the market for a 27 year old who has only pitched over 140 innings once in his career, coming off TJ surgery, who has pitched 220 innings total over the last 3 seasons with an ERA north of 4.30 during that time?
I wouldn't guarantee him 20 million. Maybe 3 for 15 with incentives. 150 innings, 25 games started, all star. 1 million extra each year for each one achieved.
Would bring the total to 3 for 24, but we'd obviously take that for an all star.

Considering the whirlwind of moving, finding a place, meeting new teammates, meeting new coaches, I'd imagine it's better to just put him in the level you see him starting next year *if you think he is appropriate for that level.
Vaughn says it's worldwind. I'm not going to disagree with the 21 year old 6 ft 215lb future 3 hole hitter for the Chicago White Sox, and you shouldn't either.

Am I too late to make the first Casey Gillaspie comment?

Yeah agree with moan here, they should aim higher. One of the few positions they can bring in an impact bat. I don’t think Walker or Rutherford have enough thump to play RF.
Maybe not the most popular answer, but could it end up being Leury in center and Robert in right?

Robert was 1-3. Madrigal was 1-4.
If Robert hits before Madrigal but didn't have any walks or HBP's, how did he finish with only 3 PA's? ?
I saw that too, it was hard to spot on a quick glance in the box score as there were a few HBP.
I wondered if it was retaliation for Robert taking 3 minutes to round the bases on his home run.

He'll probably be able to keep the infield honest, I'm more concerned with the outfield. Regardless, would still like to see him against guys who are less inclined to be wild. That's a thing he could probably learn at the Major League lever, and I wouldn't be opposed to that, but the poster asked for what benefit there could be.
Right now ther only reason not to bring him to AAA is because they don't really want to touch Mendick right now. Maybe they don't know what to do with Mendick. They could bring him up for Rondon but there's no certainty you wouldn't get the same results. Same with Sanchez. But what we can all agree on is that Madrigal is going to be better than all three of them, and most likely already is.
That would lead one to believe that service time is really the only thing keeping him from MLB, and not knowing what to do with the 3 in front of him is why he's still in AA.

Betts seems to go back to Boston no matter how much money anyone throws at him. Something like an 11 year, 350 million deal with them.
