  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) The Sox would still be out. Penalty phase is two years. We are now serving year 1. well this makes me sad... I didn't know/forgot it was a two year penalty
  2. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Important note: Every team can sign Kevin Maitan. Teams will be able to use money from the current bonus period (2017-18) or dip into next year's pool (2018-19). They cannot combine the money from both years. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/933081338818777089 Theoretically, this would allow all teams to go after Kevin Maitan, but as we know, teams already have most of their 2018-19 bonus pools committed. Early signings are simply a reality in the current state of play in Latin America. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/933081643610509312 F*** yes.. Let's go balls to the wall!
  3. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) We might not be. I don't know how to embed a tweet, but Badler said this a little while ago: With the new international system in place, the precedent set with the Red Sox doesn't really matter. Badlers tweet makes me feel a little better about our chances.. Let's hope for a change
  4. We aren't in play here right? Since we can only offer 300k.. or can we go over? Is this a special case? I'm confused lol
  5. I don't see how limiting it to 2017 international bonus pools is fair to teams who are over it since they were unaware Maitan and others would be available.. hmm This should have a special rule where anyone is allowed in, but you'd ahve to pay the double tax if you're over (like how we signed Robert)
  6. I'd love to add a guy like AJ Pollack in 2019.
  7. Yeah I don't get the argument of not protecting him.. It literally makes ZERO sense.
  8. Goodness.. Our bullpen is in shambles. But this move and the Burr move, where all we gave up was international bonus pool for both are amazing. Both are older so have close proximity to the majors and both have legit intrigue (Not like a Beck arm). I love Hahn and what he is doing.. Is this how he is going to build some of our bullpen?! I love it!
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Right. As of now, I think it's very possible they win 82-87 games. Those moves would obviously change things. Regardless, I disagree with those who think we're going to be worse/as bad this year than we were last year. A 20 win improvement?!?! omg stop. If we win 70 games that would be huge to the rebuild.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) It seems to be an international amateur signing which I agree with. You just pretend like he never signed with the Braves (except that he keeps the money). And im guessing the international pool money will be dated now as opposed to when he signed in 2016? aka we had money in 16. don't have any now.
  11. Does anyone actually know if he will be considered a FA or international amateur signing or are we just speculating? If he is a FA we have a chance and I'd imagine a good one.. If it's international bonus money we have no shot.
  12. Jorge Mateo would be an interesting guy to start with. Billy Hamilton 2.0?
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) The Sox say no. Abreu is worth more than Kelly alone. I would be absolutley stuned if anyone gave a better prospect. I think you're looking at someone around 75-100 ++. I'd rather take the one guy at 40.
  14. Trade scenario. Jose Abreu (To the Cards) for Carson Kelly (To the Sox) STRAIGHT UP. Who says no?
  15. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) Chatwood is an excellent pinch runner. wait.. really?
  16. QUOTE (fredmanrique @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) The more I think about it the less it makes sense to lock up abreu at $20mil + per year in 2020 and beyond. (age 32-37ish) Love the mentor angle with moncada but bring in one year vets like Melky or Adrian Gonzalez to fill that role. (taking on minimal salary or getting a legit prospect to take on that contract in the A Gon example) I'd do groome, Rodriguez with Boston or McMahon plus from Colorado for abreu. it's probably not time for Avi deal until midseason - where we decide if he's part of the core or not, but I bet Atlanta would love to turn kemp into Avi in right. Take on that kemp deal and I bet we could get multiple starters in top 100 back. not their top guys but Ian Anderson, gohara, etc. Point is, we can keep payroll similar by swapping abreu and avi for veterans that can also be mentors (not sure about kemp) while adding 3-4 legit pitching prospects at different stages of arrival. i.e. Rodriguez, groome, Anderson, gohara. That's too much potential for 2 years of control of veteran leadership. I'd love a Garcia trade starting for Gohara. Plus it seems the Braves are ready to make moves and get people in that new stadium. You've got my attention sir!
  17. I'd LOVE to bring in Trevor Rosenthal. I see he was just released. He would be the perfect reclamation project for Cooper. Former dominant closer, still at a good age
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Yeah. Then get some more relievers and repeat - I can go for that. They shouldn't have had to give a good prospect to cover 30M of Shields' salary, as shaky as Shields was. No one thought Tatis was a good prospect.. No matter how much we all want to hate the trade it's a guarantee 98% of us approved of that trade when it happened.. Tatis was no one to us at the time
  19. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 07:41 PM) I wouldn't count on Rodon for anything going forward. He just had shoulder surgery, and even though there was no structural damage, nobody knows how it will respond. At best, I'd pencil him in as a LOOGY or late inning reliever, or 5th starter. I also am of the belief that Rodon shouldn't be counted on as a starter any longer. I'd actually prefer that we move him to the bullpen as a setup man or maybe even try him as a closer. I'd imagine in a closer role his fastball and slider would be devastating, The dude just can't stay healthy.. I think it's time to make a switch with him.
  20. I will go with a surprise signing of Jake Arrieta.. Pull a Cubs move by signing a big SP one year too early. (Jon Lester)..
  21. Why has no one mentioned Schwarber... If he were on any other team but the Cubs everyone would want him as our buy low guy.
  22. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) I wouldn't trade those guys for two catchers when Narvaez is fairly serviceable and Collins is almost ready. Collins was BARELY ready for A+ lol
  23. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) Lots of Stanton rumors in Boston. Some combination of Bradley, Bogaerts, Groome, and others for Stanton and either Ozuna or Yelich. Jeter told to get payroll down. I wonder if Bogaerts is on his last leg in Boston. They seem confused with what to do with him in their every day lineup. I wonder what it would take to grab him..
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) It sure seems like they are setting him up for it. I can't remember the last time one of our MiLB guys got national press like he did. Who is this?
