  1. I agree with SoxFan that they like that Renteria speaks spanish. It seems that the Sox always have a high number of spanish speaking players, moreso than any other team. No data for this, just eye balling. So I think they love that about Renteria. HOWEVER, I'd love the idea of bringing in Girardi assuming he wants to coach more. He wanted to be in Chicago a few years ago, maybe he'd come to the Sox? All just speculation now..
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) Not a "buy-low" candidate but Adrian Gonzalez really has no room on the Dodgers roster. He would be the perfect guy to trade for (along with a good prospect or two) if he was with another team but since the Dodgers don't really seem to care about money, it's likely they'd be more willing to release him. He's set to make $22.4 million next season, the last year of his contract. Ew.. Why
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) Joc Pederson is another guy. The Sox need LH hitting (hi Lillian). The Dodgers seem to always have too many players but they usually use them. He's about to make some more money. I don't know it the Sox have anything that would interest them that isn't a prospect, but you never know. I actually love this idea.. You get a really good defensive CF and one that has 25+ HR power. If he could bat .250 and hit 25 HR with his usual defense that is one really good player batting around 7. I'd figure he would be fairly inexpensive as well.
  4. I love the idea of a guy like Franco. I just don't see how the Phillies could discount him that much. It would have to take a Dunning sort of talent at least.
  5. In no way, shape, or form did Singer dominate. THAT is why he makes me nervous as a 1-4 pick.. I just do not like it (things can change).
  6. Why do people like Singer again?? No one has answered that for me..
  7. I think you try to protect Eloy, Gillespie, Polo, Adolfo and Guerrero. We have the spaces and losing any of those would really suck. I don't feel confident we would get Guerrero or Adolfo back.
  8. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) my 2 cents: If you have a choice between Arenado, Harper, Machado and Stanton and you tell me the Sox WILL sign one? I put Stanton at the back of that list. I still like Arenado and Machado a whole lot more than the others. However at the same time if you tell me this is JUST a contract dump? I'd entertain Stanton. I do think he'll have a big trade market however if it just a contract dump. Giants, Phillies, Yankees, Cubs, RedSox, Dodgers can all absorb that price tag a lot easier than us.. People may think I'm crazy, but I can see the Yankees going after Stanton AND Harper... Imagine an OF of Judge, Stanton and Harper ...... infield of Torres, Sanchez, etc. But to go back to the original question - yes I'd acquire Stanton. He'll be 38 at the end of the deal ... Pujols is 37. It's not inconceivable for Stanton to play 6-7 really good years within that contract and a few more at replacement level. I may be alone here but give me Arenado any day of the week.. I'd rank them Arenado, Harper then a STEEP dropoff to Machado, Stanton.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) I'm not sure but I know players would love it. I base that off of the criticism some players had for the system when Moncada signed for $31.5 mill while top draft picks are signing for significantly less. Interesting topic.. If we do a draft we will get less good players coming.. Abreu, Cespedes, Moncada, Otani, aand others wouldn't come if they were just going to get the 1st overall pick money.. It's interesting. I'd love a draft but if they do that I think you lose out on lots of top talent..
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) There is no way in hell I'd even think about trading Collins. No one wanted Fulmer 1 month ago and Collins had a bad year. I think that's fair. Remember I did say I'd like money back too. I think that's about what it would take to land Stanton and I'd be willing to do it for those two. I think Fulmer at BEST CASE SCENARIO is a 7th inning guy. Collins had a bad year but still has some projection so he's harder to peg but his terrible K% is extremely serious since he was supposed to dominate the minors with the bat.. He couldn't even handle A+ ball.. This is a fun topic!
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) Sorry, but how could it possibly have gone better? We will end up with the 2016-7 #1 prospect in baseball (Yoan), the likely #1 or #2 prospect in baseball going into 2018 (Eloy), the best 2018 pitching prospect in baseball (Kopech), and a handful of other guys not far behind or already showing signs in the majors. All achieved by trading 3 players and spending some money in the international market. This franchise was effectively dead before the 2016 off season. Nothing in the farm system and likely wasting the primes of Sale/Q/Eaton since it was not possible to build around them without a 400m payroll to fix all the other holes. I haven't been this excited about the future of the Sox since 2006. Is it guaranteed? Of course not, nothing is. Is it light years better than the bulls*** they tried for the previous decade? 1000000% yes. Because of that dang Yankees trade. It was light almost all around. That's why I and many others dropped their score from a 10. I gave it a 9. My favorite year in recent memory
  12. I would be willing to do a Fulmer and Collins package ASSUMING they eat some of that money.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) 300 innings isn't really even a lot of minor league experience if you think about it. The kid is still learning on the job. You cant just keep using that excuse..
  14. Let's do a Soler type sign.. 7 years, 30 million.. If he does become a FA
  15. I went with a 9 simply because I am and was disappointed in the Yankees trade.
  16. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 03:50 PM) Not to derail but I agree 100% with this. I've just been disappointed in general with Rodon. Hopefully part of that was the discomfort he had in the shoulder. Totally agree. He has been a disappointment with little to no improvement since his rookie year. After this injury (he is injury prone) I wonder if it is best to try him out at closer and see if he can become a dominant closer or setup man (andrew miller type). I think that's how we max out his value from here on out.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) Now that the 2017 season is over, and we saw 162 games played at the major league level played, a lot of players traded away as well as brought into the organization... what are you going to take from the 2017 season as a White Sox fan? Our young players seemed to have all developed well apart from a few (Rutherford, Collins, Fulmer, Burdi) while also have some lower guys perform (Zavala, Stephens, Adolfo). Good year for the minors and our young core. I am happy with all of the trades except the Yankees trade. Seems we are a good prospect short.
  18. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) If Collins can bring an elite bat and average defense to the C position, he has 6+ WAR per year potential. So far we've seen a bad bat.. Let's hope the scouting was right coming out of college
  19. I literally don't even remember what was wrong with him.. lol I'm down to give him a shot out of ST though... Why not? Engel is a bench guy (great D and runner) but not a starter.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 08:40 AM) Sounded like Hahn will start to discuss extensions in the middle of '18, with obviously only interest to extend Abreu and Garcia Abreu is the leader of this team and can still hopefully produce 2-4 more high level years, with him being a UFA in '20 there is 0 need to extend him now Garcia, just 26, still has to repeat success to show '17 wasn't a fluke, but I'd be thrilled with him as the long term RFer if he can prove that Next year's OD lineup of SS Anderson, 2B Moncada, 1B Abreu, RF Garcia, LF Delmonico, DH Davidson, 3B Sanchez, C Smith, and CF Leury looks like they can surprise a lot of people, especially in a weaker division...Not to mention the probable call-ups of LF Jimenez and C Collins next year along with CF Robert, 3B/1B Burger in '19 Next year's success in the W column really relies on pitching, which is off to a bad start with Rodon likely missing a month or so, but the rotation starting off '18 should feature Giolito, Fulmer, Lopez, and Shields (along with a cheap vet FA) with Rodon coming back in May and Kopech up in the summer 19's rotation should be Kopech, Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, and Hansen thus setting up '19 to be a major year and start of dominance for the ChiTown Sox Am I the only one that thinks Avi moves over to LF once Eloy (RF) gets called up?
  21. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) Is this just speculation or do you have some sources to confirm this It has to be spreculation because they can't go for Otani hah
  22. There is absolutely no need in extending Abreu before his contract expires.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) Brian Bilek‏ @BrianBilek_ #WhiteSox ? ? Brian Bilek‏ @BrianBilek_ There will be news. Just keep peeping twitter every once In a while today F*** there can literally be nothing good that comes from this...
  24. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) I'll settle this once and for all with one simple question to all the people who are upset that we'll most likely pick 4th instead of 2nd or 3rd (I think we all conceded the top pick to SF a while back - though this tigers drop off has been out of the blue and sudden) Name the top 5 prospects in the draft by name and position without looking it up... I know the names Turang and Singer off the top of my head.. Exactly. In April it was TANK FOR BEER!!! Well guess what he's supposedly a mid to late 1st round pick now. Trout was what? 23rd? Pick 1 and 2 in 2014 was Brady Aiken and Tyler Kolek. Unless there is a Harper, Bryant, etc. at the top there are very few sure guys. From what I understand there are MANY solid players in this draft with no real standout. I wouldn't be surprised if the top pick 3 years from now was from someone who picked 10-20.. Let's look at the top prospects in all of baseball... Torres - signed Robles - signed Vlad Jr - signed Eloy - signed Acuna - signed Rodgers - 1st (3rd) Tucker - 1st (5th) Senzel - 1st (2nd) Kopech - 1st 33rd) Buehler 24 Honeywell 72 Brinson 29 My point? You have to trust our scouts ... This isn't the NBA where one player like Lebron wins you a championship. This isn't like NFL and NBA where a likely consensus top 3 guy is a guarantee.. the 1st round and top picks are littered with injuries and burn outs... if there is something to get bent out of shape about it is that our signing slots are less with each pick down... Look at the past. the higher pick you have the higher liklihood of actually hitting on that pick. Pick #1 has a better history than pick #26 for example and so on and so on.
  25. QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) One way to look at it is that the Draft could be divided into 4 categories: Best H. S. pitcher, best H.S. position player and the same for the Top College prospects. So, even picking 4TH, you have the best of one of those categories, at a minimum. That should console those who are so disappointed that the Sox Draft position is slipping. Moreover, there is no consensus #1, 2 or 3. Hey, those who want Beer may get your wish. He could be a reasonable pick at around $5. I agree. I'm down for picking whoever. But the more we drop the more sense it makes to draft Beer and sign him slightly under slot while then going overslot on the 2nd round. You draft maybe one of the best college hitters we've seen in a long long time. I like it.
