  1. I also don't believe anyone here is advocating trading him for a basket of bananas. We'd all want/expect something of value for him. Like a Hot N' Ready pizza
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) I've read all the threads. Many profess to 'love' Avi but it all boils down to one thing. The consensus is don't pay him. And many want to trade him. Even though Lillian put together great post after post about how you need guys like Avi and Jose Abreu to go with the young studs to win a pennant (now Lillian knows how greg feels as the antagonist), very few are buying that. Sox fans don't want to pay anybody cept international prospects who need the lump sum to join the organization, certainly don't want to pay Avi. That's fine. Let's drop the subject. Tell me if I'm reading the people wrong. The naysayers usually start their posts with the caveat "I love what Avi did this year or I love Avi, but ..." The majority opinion is don't sign Avi for more years; for gawd sakes don't give him a lot of money. We are Sox fans. We don't want to pay our own. We don't respect our own (veteran players). We love prospects and we LOVE low payrolls. That's how I read this thread. It's America, feel free to tell me I'm full of bleep. Read Lillian's posts and read the responses. Very few want to pay Avi/keep Avi around once he needs more money. It's prospects we want, baby. Lilian, thanks for trying and your great posts! Now I see why no one likes this guy. lol in all seriousness us "naysayers" don't want to fork over 100 million for a guy who shouldn't have made this roster out of spring training, despite his outstanding year. We want to see more before we invest in him.
  3. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) He's hit 17 HRs in 121 games, including a stretch from the all star break to September where he didn't hit a single HR (likely due to the hand injury he suffered having an effect on his power, as well as the missed time due to said hand injury and a separate knee injury). I think 25-30 HR potential is in that bat if he can be healthy for 162 games. He won't hit more than 15-20 in a season, though, If he can't keep himself healthy and in the lineup. Rarely does anyone play 162. So let's just go with 150 because it's easy math and is definetely reasonable. He has hit 17 HR in 121 games.. That's 14% of games. If you multiply that by estimated games played he hits only 21... Avi is not a power hitter. You can't negate his poor month either.. Do we just negate his best month then? You include it all because bad stretches happen.
  4. My opinion: I was the biggest Avi fan when we brought him over from the Tigers and remained a big fan. However... I am not sold. He is strictly a singles hitter. Little power to go with him with an extremely high BABIP. However, that's not to say he can't be productive. I see him as a .270 hitter, which before the season to see that would have been crazy. That's a useful #6 batter. I think this is a career year for him. I think you EXPLORE trade deals, though only taking one if it includes a very good prospect. If not you hold him and ride this out, hoping it's real. I'd try to extend him this off season for about Anderson money. 6-8 million a year. If he declines (which i wouldn't blame him) you try to trade him, if you can't you simply hold him and take that qualifying offer in two years and get that comp pick. Anything close to 10 mil is crazy for him given his track record, and that fact that he literally is a 1.5 tool player. Just my two cents.. It's been a fun year but I am not completely sold. PROVE ME WRONG AVI
  5. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:54 AM) I've been saying all season that Avi will be a perennial all star the rest of his career and a future HOF inductee (maybe first ballot). If our rebuild is to be successful, we must sign him to a long term contract (unfortunately, the organization has probably cost itself 50-75 million by waiting til this point) I'd be surprised if there's every been a HOF who had as bad of a start to a career as Avi has.. lol Let's not get crazy
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 07:39 AM) Avi's BABIP may regress, but I also think he will be hitting more homers. I don't think anyone expects him to hit .333. But if he hits .285-.300 and hits 25-30 homers, he's a lot better than anyone thought coming into this year when people were upset the Sox gave him $3 million and weren't giving Rymer Liriano a shot at playing. I can't stop but get confused why people this Avi is a power hitter.. Why do they? Because he is tall and bulky? The dude has 17 homers.. May not even crack 20 this year (he's 26) and people still think he could hit 30? He is what he is. A singles hitter. Let's stop assuming and hoping he's all of a sudden going to become some power hitter you need to backout the outfield for
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) How? They already have too many outfielders plus young guys like Bader, O'Neill and Sierra. Also yes.. they have a lot of below average outfielder that they thought would be good who haven't turned out.. Piscotty, Grichuk. IDK if they're a fit too for the reasons you mentioned but they definitely aren't set in the outfield.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) How? They already have too many outfielders plus young guys like Bader, O'Neill and Sierra. Many posters here put them at the top of the list of Avi suitors. Weren't there rumors they were interested around and before the deadline too?
  9. Because many see STL as a fit for Avi. Give me Carson Kelly and a Hot N' Ready for Avi and I'd be stoked.. Mostly about the pizza though
  10. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) Given the way the market crashed for corner bat-only types this season that seems way too optimistic. I'm thinking the best we could do is a back-end top 100 prospect and not much else. Because many see STL as a fit for Avi. Give me Carson Kelly and a Hot N' Ready for Avi and I'd be stoked.. Mostly about the pizza though
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) Given the way the market crashed for corner bat-only types this season that seems way too optimistic. I'm thinking the best we could do is a back-end top 100 prospect and not much else. Oh no. I completely agree. I think you're more likely to get a guy at the back end of the top 100 and a flier. That's why i added my "lucky" in there. I don't think it would happen but if it did you run with it even if he hits .330 with 20 HR
  12. I HATE WINS!! But this game was fun! Have a day Moncada and Avi! I am also of the thought that you try and trade Avi in the offseason and see if you could get lucky to receive a 55+ FV prospect. Top 30ish guy (though thats arbitrary) with maybe another 50 FV guy. It would be hard to let that pass if that offer was there.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) "Bullpen - wing it" lmao hahah right!? This team will be tragic next year. Probably about the same as this year. remember we wont have Quintana, Robertson, Swarzak, Kahnle, Melky and Frazier (barf) for half a year. That really won us some games.
  14. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) This team looks good enough to compete for the WC or division next year. Indiana have some stats who are aging. Never know what happens in baseball. Sox will also have Kopech and eloy at some point. Rodon/Kopech/Lopez/giolito/ shields or guerrero or Stephens or Adams 1B abreu 2B moncada SS TA/leury 3b Davidson/nicky/yolmer DH delmonico/davidson/abreu RF avi CF leury/engel LF nicky/eloy C: TA/Kevin smith Supersubs yolmer/leury Bullpen - wing it. I think this team will be a pleasant surprise and the Sox very May well have a chance to compete. You've answered why this team isn't good enough to compete... with that roster lol
  15. I am fine with wins like this. Lopez pitched fine for where he is in his career and Moncada had a great game with the bat along with some other of our possible bats that may be around for the next few years. This win is okay.
  16. WOW! I love how this kid works. Super fast. He is ready to throw before the batter is even in the box. I also like how he changes how long he pauses in his step back/sideways. Sometimes it's super fast where it barely seems like his foot is hitting the ground while other times he pauses for a second or two. After that video of him.. I am hooked haha
  17. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 6, 2017 -> 11:37 PM) I understand this. The magic number from fathom - I still don't really get even after trying to figure it out for weeks. ( I'm as dense upstairs as a block of wood. ) Yeah I don't get the magic bold number thing at all either lol. I'm not the only one!!!
  18. I am a Beer lover. That bat to me seems safer than any college/High School bat I've seen in recent memory. To me he is guaranteed a 3-5 spot in an order. But yes.. His defense blows. Hopefully he could stick at 1B or LF but even if he can't, his bat will be huge for a DH. What about this Wil Banfield? Now I much prefer taking a college player than a HS player and I honestly don't know much about him.. But everything I read seems great. Seems to be an outstanding defensive catcher with plus bat tools. Now if we somehow far in the 5 pick range, that could be interesting. Thoughts? Anyone know much about him?
  19. The new Phillies (Hoskins, Williams and Alfaro) may really help our chances, they're all raking and giving them some wins! Though we also have an influx of young talent (Moncada, Lopez, Giolito, Delmonico). It's really a two team race. Let's get to it! Go Phillies!
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) I think its time for the Sox to move some guys around. Fulmer needs to go to the bullpen fulltime. With Burdi out for probably most of next year Fulmer could be a solid option for the Sox in the bullpen. Letting him go out in shorter stints would allow for him to play his stuff up a bit more and if he is successful, you have a valuable piece. His results the last two years are not trending in a positive direction, and its probably time to make a change. I think the Hawkins experiment is done. The results just aren't getting any better, its time to move him to the mound to see if the team can salvage any value from the pick. His high school scouting report said some teams like him as a pitcher and he threw 92-95. Make a move and let him try to be the next Sergio Santos, Sean Doolittle, or best case Kenley Jansen. Odds are he wont make it as a pitcher either, but its worth a try. Jake Peter to LF. With his history of arm trouble, 2B is the best position for him, however he will be blocked from the position for the foreseeable future unless the Sox trade him. He played 2B, 3B, RF, and LF in AA but has played exclusively 2B in AAA. He needs more time at other positions if he is going to be a useful piece. The team has an opportunity in LF next season and Peter could be a fit. Jace Fry to the bullpen. By all accounts Fry has a good arm, however the starter workload seems to be more than his arm can handle. I agree on Fulmer. Though I'm not even certain he can be a bullpen piece, though you'd hope he'd have more success tehre. But why not try I guess? I'd prefer Peter to stay at 2B since we literally have no middle infield depth and we seem to have a lot of guys we were just moved to corner OF. The other two are just about as non-prospect as you can get so they can make them ball boys for all I care lol
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) I have no idea how this kid isn't in the 25 to 50 range at least. He has checked all of the boxes for a year now. I agree. I believe that when lists are out at the beginning of next year he will be in the 25-50 range and our #3 prospect behind Eloy and Kopech
  22. Hey all! So I have been following this forum daily for a few years, but for some reason never made an account! Well now I have, so I'll be joining in on some conversations and I'm super excited about it. I haven't seen this posted anywhere and I'm all about the rebuild and prospects but Alec Hansen is now #100 on MLB top prospects. I get that may not mean much but it's clearly well deserved and still exciting to see that he is respected outside of just this Sox organization. Can't wait to be apart of this forum. I'm a massive White Sox fan and have been my whole life. I'm 23 and an accountant in Michigan City, IN. Call me "Gallo".. BELIEVE IN THE REBUILD!!!
