chitownsportsfan
QUOTE (Insp @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 07:21 PM) We need to keep Robertson to build around him. you don't build anything around a closer. You find a good offense, a good rotation, then you find a closer. Only reason Sox blew what they blew on DR is because they thought they were ready to contend. Whoops. GreenSox
It was also his 3rd appearance in under 24 hours. One thing that needs to be prioritized over the next week is protecting player value. If you have to use one of these bottom bullpen guys, so be it. Winning this game is not the organizational priority right now. Jones is another one who has been pitched 5/6 days. I said before the inning that Robin may as well bring in Kahnle so as not to expose Robinson any more than he already has been. Plus he pitched already today. Wins for the Sox don't matter anymore. Another stupid Robin move.

Thought a reliever ,who Robin probably doesn't use anyway, might have been brought up considering the dire straits the Sox pen was in. Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 06:19 PM) Wins matter for the manager. Ultimately, that is how he's judged. A good organization would have a front office that tells their coaching not overuse their closer that they plan on trading in the next week. Robertson doesn't have a rubber arm and this was just asking for trouble.

harkness99
It is hard to find a great closer though.. look at Rosenthal for the Cardinals and some others. They often go up and down. One thing that is very clear though.. Robertson is not worth the large contract he has.
Lip Man 1
I'll give Robertson one thing, he admitted he was lousy and when Bruce Levine tried to give him an out (i.e. excuse) saying 'but you pitched three times in 15 hours' Roberston said it didn't matter. So Levine tried again by asking 'have you ever pitched three times in 15 hours' and Robertson immediately cut him off saying it didn't matter he's got a job to do. While I admire guys standing up and taking the blame when they suck, the bottom line is these guys have been sucking a lot, and it doesn't seem to matter who the Sox sign, trade for whatever...there's something about the organization in general that seems to 'promote' for lack of a better word failure. It gets old. All the more reason a purging is desperately needed starting with the baseball side of the front office. Mark

I thought that it weird that they add Sanchez or #26 and then play him, when he's going to go right back down. Ventura had relievers he didn't use. He only has 5 relievers he has any trust in at all. Mark Looking at the box which doesn't say much, was there a reason that Q didn't stay in there longer? I just find Robins use of the pen more of an addiction than managing. To me it's the pen where most of the mental midgets roost.

Ventura had relievers he didn't use. He only has 5 relievers he has any trust in at all. The only relievers he didn't use were Ynoa and Beck. And if he HAD used them, he would have used every reliever in the pen within a 36 hour period, leading into the series with the Cubs. He used every other reliever in the pen

Dick Allen
First pitcher in 100 years to give up 3 homers in an inning and get a win. He also tied a major league record with 2 wins yesterday. The first homer didn't bother me. 3 run lead, you are supposed to "let them hit it". But those last 2 weren't good, and the sickening thing was he made Upton look silly and these 2 look silly up until they homered.
caulfield12
It's not a salary dump situation 100%, but there will likely be disappointment in the return for Robertson unless he's packaged together with Quintana and there's no realistic way to separate out the trade return value. Hard to argue his value hasn't taken a decent-sized hit since the second week of May. Edited July 25, 2016 by caulfield12

Hell, Billy Koch consistently admitted it was on him, he sucked, and quit making excuses. I really wanted Koch to succeed partially because of his attitude like that. But at the end of the day, saying its your fault is one thing, changing the result is another. We have no place for DRob on a team at this point, that needs to be real with itself, and start a rebuild.
