ChiSox59
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) Sox would do well to get a B- position player prospect back. May as well keep him if thats all you get. That does virtually nothing for the Sox.
kitekrazy
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 07:13 AM) Don't they list pitch count in the box score? Q was maxed out at like 117 or 119 . I don't think they do but yeah that's a lot of pitches.
Capn12
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) May as well keep him if thats all you get. That does virtually nothing for the Sox. If the organization FINALLY commits to a proper rebuild, it gets them out of ~28-30 million and ~2.5 years owed to a position that really won't mean much for a rebuilding team. If they're gonna do a full rebuild and trade everything of value outside of Eaton and Abreu, fine - trade Robertson. But just trading him for a B level prospect and not moving anybody else of substance is worthless. That said, I think he's worth more than that. Look what 2.5 months of Chapman just netted. Lip Man 1
Chapman is a lot better than Robertson and the Cubs since they have no money issues have a good chance to re-sign him. Mark

YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
This scrub has already blown 2 wins for Sale, and many others. He's a huge disappointment.
caulfield12
They're talking $16-17 million per year with Chapman, but a $100 million contract would be completely nuts.

He's not a lockdown closer but he saves a lot more games than he blows. Tied for Third in 2016 with most blown saves. (And that was before tonite) 26th and 27th in WHIP and ERA. Middle of the pack in save % Not OK, when you consider he's the 3rd highest paid closer in MLB Edited August 10, 2016 by captain54
maxjusttyped
Probably could have gotten something for him before the deadline, too. Oh well.
caulfield12
Would have been better off just sending him back to the Yankees last year...yeah yeah, but we wouldn't have started out 23-10 with Jones as the closer, right? You can just as easily argue Hahn would have had to find multiple options for the pen with no Robertson entering the year, leaving the pen essentially at the same productivity but cheaper in terms of overall cost...freeing up more money for hitting. bmags
My favorite thing about Robertson is how he blows the games that felt deeply satisfying up to that point.

I think me and fathom were the only 2 who were secretly hoping Sox would just let him go to the Yanks when they put in the waiver claim. I'll still give them the benefit of the doubt and see if they get something for him.

Harry Chappas
With Burdi (hopefully), Jones, and possibly Fuller he will be the most expense set up man/ middle reliever in baseball for the next two years.

caulfield12
So now blown saves are only significant if the team loses...not affecting the overall confidence of the team or starting pitchers in any way? By that argument, Danny Wright was a highly valuable of the White Sox rotation when he won 14 games with a 5+ ERA in 2012. You pay David Robertson elite money...you better get something close to that. And with a sub .500 team, he's irrevelant except for soaking up payroll dollars that should first go to catcher, DH and CF.
