If he was hitting well we'd probably hear less about his framing abilities or lack thereof. Because pitch framing is a thing the more casual fan will see a strike called a ball and auto- assume it's on the catcher now and that is not always the case. They said the #1 problem the sox had was catching. Called it the worst in the AL, especially in pitch framing. They suggested pursuing LeCroy but also noted the Sox didn't have much to give for him. I'm not certain it's the #1 problem. But it's high on the list. i don't have the answer. But it's not Navarro playing the majority of the games. His main contribution this year was his bat and it's been an atrocious fail that I don't think any of us saw coming. Bring Smith back up.
