I'm not sure it's been brought up in this mega thread yet, but the other thing you have to consider is the ego and reputations of Hahn and Williams when making a trade of Chris Sale and or Jose Quintana, but Sale especially.

You have a young, affordable starter that may be the best pitcher in the American League, who just started the All-Star game at 27. He's been a dominate starting pitcher for your team the last 5 seasons, as has zero playoff innings pitched.

By trading Sale, you're not only telling people you weren't able to put enough talent around him to win the last 5 years, but that you don't think you'll be able to put together enough talent around him in the future as well. It's a total indictment on your job and while most already know it, and trade of Chris Sale for prospects is the nail in the coffin.

Obviously as fans we shouldn't care about that, but that side of things has to go through the head of Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams.

This is a good point but the real indictment on Hahn and KW is their insistence on half assing things and hoping they find a diamond in the rough type guy to be an important piece. They have year after year now gone into the season with holes and questions marks at several huge spots. In the AL, you can't count on a guy like Avi to be your DH. You need production from that spot. You can't signed washed up players like Rollins, Latos and AJax and just hope that things work out. Crap in one hand and hope in the other and tell me what fills up faster.

The worst part about all of this is how many players they have on super team friendly deals. They have been too cheap to add good players through Free Agency and were awful at drafting for the past 10 years to develop their own players. You either have to do one or the other to be successful and if you can do both well, you are golden. That is the real indictment on Hahn and KW. They brought all of this on themselves.

I think it's worth noting, I've heard in the past that Rangers' GM Jon Daniels is one of Hahn's "best friends" in the GM ranks. I almost think these Rangers drops we keep hearing could be plants in efforts to push attention away from Boston/LA. I am totally guessing on that though.

That would make sense

This team is jack without Sale. We simply don't have the depth to absorb the blow without starting over.

This team is jack WITH Sale

A guy that goes out there every 4th day and pretty much allows 3-4 runs or less each outing. Yea that's awesome

But there's an offense in place that's standing near the bottom of the AL in practically every category. So...

Holding on to Sale as your postseason stopper is fools gold. At this stage of the game

The Sox are committed to middle of the pack payroll, but don't have the depth to address two most pressing needs, offense and bullpen.. If the Sox aren't going to spend like the big boys, and don't have organizational depth...What can they bring to the table to compete with those that ARE spending?

I would hold on to Frazier unless someone blows them away because 3b is so difficult to fill. I'd also hold on to Sale. Everyone else is up for grabs, though I'd also have to be blown away for Q.

I know that's pretty conservative and unlikely to make a big difference, but I really don't think they're that far away from a playoff team. Honestly, if Abreu was hitting like he's expected to hit, they'd probably have five more wins. He's not supposed to be a .275 singles hitter.

Trade bullpen guys. Trade Shields. If the Sox can get a few 5-10 rated prospects in someone's system for Robertson, Duke, Cabrera, et al, they can build up their system. They don't have to shoot for the top prospects. Those guys aren't guaranteed, anyway, so why get rid of the few really good players you have for the chance a prospect will become a great player?

Package a few of them together, and you might pull one really good prospect from Boston, Texas, etc.

They'll trade Robertson. I am very much in confident in that.

I agree trading him makes sense at this point. Going to be harder though since Melancon just got traded to Washington.

@Ken_Rosenthal Sources: #WhiteSox scouted #RedSox’s AAA, AA and High A affiliates last night. Sox “highly doubt” deal will occur due to asking price.

Blanketing of #RedSox’s system by #WhiteSox was first mentioned by @pgammo. Some believe CWS simply laying groundwork for off-season trade.

More leverage for trade talks with other teams... "We can just trade with Boston this offseason. We're already getting prepared for it."

Use Rangers against Boston, "Look, the Rangers are being very aggressive. Unless we get something done before Monday - we might not have the assets you want around still this offseason."

Nick Cafardo is on MLB Network channel on XM Radio. Think's that there's a possibility someone ponies up for Sale. Mentions the Dodgers as a team that's definitely hunting with Texas. Iffy if Dom will do it because he's normally so up front with the areas he's going after.

Boston and Texas desperately need some bullpen help.

I think Boston would be more interested in Dukes than Robertson. Their closer Kimbrall will be back on Monday and Joe Kelly has been throwing 100+ in relied appearances since he joined the pen last week. But they may need a lefty.

White Sox evaluators aren't just scouting Red Sox' system. Source says Chicago looking at catchers, incl Christian Vazquez and Gary Sanchez.

Vasquez hits like Leury Garcia. Boston can get away with it.

Wonder which Sox vet the Yankees would want.

Would love Vazquez but he may not be an ML bat. But is an ML catcher. Not a great fit on a team looking for some offense. But a long range solution behind the plate.

Not if he can't hit and so far he has been awful. Should come cheap.

I would think Baltimore could use some of our second tier pitching.

Hahn asking for the moon, as he should be. But I'm sure a bunch of you will find a way to fault him anyway.

The problem when no deal is done, will be the rumors of team X offering A B C, without knowing whether it's actually true.
