Whenever Shields gets pulled (hope its after one more out) he deserves a standing O. While not a high K performance, this is one of the better "grab your nuts and go do it" performances of the year.

Ok - who said that? I have to start using it.

If we can consistently get this kind of pitching from Shields and Gonzo, while Sale and Quintana can continue to do their thing, this team has a legitimate shot at making a comeback.

As long as none of them ever allow runs, yes.

Must be so hard to give credit to a pitcher who is very good for 7 straight games because you so handily believe in sabremetric peripherals. Just means you know nothing about pitching or people for that matter.

No kidding. The guy flat out battled tonight and walks as a pitcher aren't always a bad thing in certain situations.

Come on dude. He's had 24 strikeouts and 16 walks in 47 innings, along with a 35% groundball rate, 33% hard hit rate and 8% soft hit rate. He's been extremely lucky.

Well, this buys James some more rope.

I wonder why Carlos was pulled, unless I'm missing something obvious. Or Lawrie is going on the DL retroactive.

With Lawrie not playing today again, this is a good call.

Can any of you explain what has enabled Shields to so dramatically turn things around? He has been terrific, after that brief awful stretch.

His mechanics were a disaster when he got here. He has cleaned that hot mess up.

He's also a dude that has a track record of not being godawful.

Drob going to pitch angry tonight

I like David, the thing with him is apparently he just can't be used a ton. He really apparently has no day after day stamina.

Also, he shags fly balls left handed, which is odd.
