He sounds like Jerrod Dyson at worst; Willie Wilson at best. Sorry for the two KC Royals comparisons.

Glad Duke is gonzo however.

Well, this is the 'give up on a guy' deal by St. Louis. Obviously trading a second round draft pick for Zach Duke means they have given up on Tilson as a top prospect. It's a good trade for the Sox as Duke is no good and it's Tilson's final chance to blossom. Avi never blossomed, but maybe Tilson will.

No it's because they had a higher upside CF in AA who needed to be moved up to play every day in AAA.

So the idiot Hahn traded away one of the best relief pitchers in baseball for someone who cannot be any better than a 5th outfielder scrub. Further proof that anyone who advocates wholesale trading of Sox players with Hahn in charge is simply delusional at best and hopelessly insane at worst.

Duke was overrated and protected a number of times where he'd give up a hit and walk right away and was immediately pulled in favor of another pitcher. Was rarely left in when he had nothing to give up a big inning. By comparison, Robin will leave Robertson in when he has nothing to give up 7 runs.

The only time I was truly impressed was when he pulled a rabbit out of a hat with the bases loaded in the Boston game.

He's not a power pitcher and doesn't have good stuff and only has 1 more year of control and is old. We're honestly lucky we even got a player who projects to be a major league player at all.

The verdict is split on Tilson. Some think the 22-year-old has the tools to be a starter. Others believe a career as a fourth outfielder is in his future. I fall into the former camp. The 2011 second-round pick has a simple, line drive stroke and should hit for average at the big league level. He also has the ability to generate some lift when needed. In 2015, Charlie is only three extra-base-hits shy of his career high despite playing in only 95 games. In the outfield, Tilson has the athleticism and arm to stick in center. The combination of a good eye (career .350 OBP in the minors) and excellent speed (33 steals this year) bodes well for a future as a leadoff-type guy. Some young team may be inclined to give the Cardinals more than the youngster is worth. If they could receive a starting centerfielder or a first base upgrade in the deal, St. Louis might pull the trigger.

Trade deadline article citing Tilson as the Cards best potential trade chip who could be moved. Suggest he could have been felt for a rental starting CF or 1B.

That's an interesting and encouraging article.

Seems to be a lot of conflicting reports on Tilson. When they first announced the trade I read that he had a choppy swing which made him more of a ground ball hitter. I also read he was considered average as a defender and someone else posted that he had a weak arm. Then I read the Sox scouts rated him a terrific fielder and a line drive hitter. This seems somewhat in line with this article.

I hope for once the Sox evaluated correctly. I'm looking forward to him starting most of the rest of the remaining games this season as the Sox centerfielder. If Robin plays Shuck or Garcia over him, I'll be pissed.

Duke is just another body. He's nothing special. The outfielder we got obviously is a bust to this date or St. Louis wouldn't have traded him. This will probably be his final chance to be a starter in the bigs.

Uh... The kid just turned 23 and is done pretty damn good at his first AAA stint. He hasn't even debuted in the bigs from what I read - you're making pretty emotionally driven speculative statements here dude.

Let's see Tilson play first. We'll probably have that chance real soon. I wouldn't be surprised if he is ranked ahead of both May and Engel, at least this year.

Already is. Rated #5 prospect in our system

Already preparing myself for that.

While he doesn't look like anything special and won't play to the ceiling of what you hope (but usually don't get) from a #2 pick, if you read the Cardinal stuff, they say he was blocked by better prospects.

He looks like he could help this team.

Now if Ventura is going to sit him on the bench, then send him to Charlotte work for a month and let the coaches evaluate what he can do.

I'm sure most of the people complaining right now wanted Duke DFA'd a few months ago.

This is a fine return for a lefty specialist.

I'm OK with the trade. Here's hoping Tilton is the next Lou Brock. Could be a steal. Could be a bust. I'm OK with finding out. Not a bad trade as I disliked Duke.

I'm OK with him. I just feel St. Louis wouldn't trade him for Duke if they hadn't decided he was nothing special. A second round pick? It's obvious they've soured on him. Again, they'd want a lot more than Duke if they felt he could play.

All parties to this trade should be happy.

Duke is happy to get out of the White Sox mess and go to a classy organization that has a genuine chance at a wild card berth this year. His salary stays the same through 2017, and he has a chance for playoff money.

Tilson is happy, because he likely gets to play in the Bigs for the first time, and he will at least get the major league minimum and start accruing service time.

Sox brass is happy, because they save several millions of dollars.

Hahn is happy, because no one can say he did nothing. He probably keeps his job.

SoxTalk is happy, because we have something to talk about.

Sox have cut alot of payroll off the budget going into 2017

No more $1M buyout for A Ramirez

Rollins $2M

Matt A's $3M

Danks $15M

Duke $5M, at least I thought he was getting $5m it could be more

Austin Jackson will likely not be resigned since he's been on the DL for 2 months so there's another $5M savings

Morneau will be a FA after this year, they could possibly sign him but assuming they don't that's another $1M saved, hope they can keep him but they may get outbid.

And of course the DH who could not hit who saved the team $13M when he retired with a year left on his contract

So assuming all that, Hahn has $45 M he should be able to spend in either Free Agency or in acquiring more expensive talent through trades.

That is alot of $ and the amount could be higher if Shields decides to opt out of his current contract which would save at least another $10M to make the total $55M. I hope they can keep Shields, he seems to have turned himself in a positive direction and with the Padres ponying up half of his salary for the balance of his contract he makes an inexpensive 3-4th starter.

If he opts out, that about cuts the payroll in half.

To be competitive in 2017 and to keep the fanbase interested in the team, Hahn has better acquire

1) At least one more quality arm for the Bullpen

2) Make a strong push for one more quality starter, Rich Hill who has a 9-3 2.25 stat line will be a FA and could likely be had with a 2 year contract considering his age. A Sale, Quintana, Shields, Hill & Rondon rotation is better than nearly every other team in the league

3) A RF who is solid defensively and hits for average and power. Possibly Dexter Fowler (don't hate on my just an idea) or likely somebodyelse.

4) A solid defensive Catcher who hits for aveage. Lucroy is a rare commodity and would come at a high price which is why keeping Shields and signing Hill are important. I'd trade any of the 5 starting pitchers for Lucroy except Sale. Would need at least 1 more player coming from the Brewers if Quintana traded..

A Fowler like RF and Lucroy would fill 2 huge holes in the lineup and make the team better defensively.

A Sale, Shields, Hill & Rodon rotation would still be very solid and the team should score much more and play ever better D.

Plus there should still be alot of $ that can be spent during the season on any needed player acquisitions shouls season ending injuries take place among key talent.

I'm actually not really big anymore on chasing the power hitters with high strike out rates...

This hasn't worked.

I'd be looking for speed with discipline who can get on base and a good staff with a lockdown bullpen (I guess the KC model).

If this kid can play Defense, get on base and not be an easy out he might bring more to the table then a lot of our current guys.

I'm tired of these guys that contribute nothing consistently on offense.

... we have had one of the or the worse offenses the past few years.

The way we are trying to build our offense right now isn't working.
