Around the trade deadline, it seemed like we were gonna sell. But now, with these "JR wants to win NOW!!" stories, I don't know what we're going to do. I think selling is more prudent, especially with the bleak FA market. I also envision some sort of weird buy/sell thing where we trade one of Sale/Quintana and get some package like Bradley/Benintendi/Kopech and try to win now, but then we'd just have a bad rotation.

Anyway, here's what I want to happen:

Chicago trades Sale, Robertson to Boston for Moncada, Benintendi, Kopech, Groome

Chicago trades Quintana to Los Angeles (NL) for Urias, De Leon, Verdugo

Chicago trades Cabrera, one of Abreu/Frazier (as a 1B) to Texas for Guzman, Taveras

Here's what I think (and fear) will happen:

Either:

A: Nothing

or:

B:

Chicago signs Edwin Encarnacion to 4-year, $110 million contract

Chicago signs Kenley Jansen to 4-year, $52 million contract

Chicago thinks they're contenders but finishes with anywhere between 75-85 wins

Biggest contract they've given out is Abreu's 6/ $68 mill. Consider that. I think they sign guys without giving up a draft pick and for not a ton of money and I think they also don't trade any of the big prospects/young controllable players.

Build a complete pitching staff somehow. Fire Robin, hire Leyland, fire Cooper and get a pitching coach who believes in 7 innings from his starters minimum. Pitching, pitching, pitching, defense, defense, defense.

Coop doesn't believe in starters going 7 innings? Huh.

It'll never happen, but I would both buy and sell.

Sign Rich Hill to really corner the SP market.....Trade Q to Boston for JBJ/Moncada/Swihart/Rodriguez.....Hope Shields retires.....Resign Morneau with intentions of potentially flipping him once Collins is ready.

Sale-Hill-Rodon-Rodriguez-Gonzalez/Fulmer

1. Eaton RF

2. Anderson SS

3. JBJ CF

4. Abreu 1B

5. Morneau DH

6. Frazier 3B

7. Melky LF

8. Moncada 2B

9. Swihart C

Add Burdi, Putnam, and Petricka to this disaster of a pen.

If it fails again, then you trade Sale.

You keep repeating this ad nauseam but it just isn't a reality. The fact is that nobody goes 7+ innings every start. Out of the 79 qualified starters this year exactly 1 averages 7+ innings per start. That pitcher? Chris Sale. And who's his pitching coach? Oh yea, the guy you're complaining about.

The White Sox are 6th in all of MLB for IP by SP, and 3rd in the AL. greg's idea is 100% false.

Sox were first last year in most innings pitched by starters. Not sure were greg's getting that starters aren't going deep into games

I am going to throw this out there to see what everyone thinks.

Avi Garcia for Tommy La Stella? And maybe the Sox can throw cash to the Cubs just to get rid of Garcia?

Why would the Cubs want anything to do with Garcia? They already have his clone, Jorge Soler, who happens to be slightly better anyway.

Yeah, this year, even with the injuries, and the really awful performances by guys like Shields, Danks, Latos and company, the Sox are still near the top.

I know it sounds like a long shot, but no harm in asking. Besides, the Cubs don't want La Stella anyways and maybe they want some cash or a 3 team deal.

Who knows unless you ask.

What makes you think that LaStella wants to play anywhere but Wrigley.

I don't but no downside to ask. Besides, if he still wants to play and the Cubs don't want him, he only has 2 choices. Retire or play for another team.

Does anyone see any downside by asking?

If they're gonna buy, they need to bring in a good DH and a couple of other bigger supplemental offensive pieces.

23rd in team home runs

23rd in runs scored

23rd in OPS

....in a hitter's park

It's killing us

I agree. It really makes no difference if they get a good catcher and get a legit outfielder if they can't score enough runs to win games. Sale should have at least 23 wins by now and Q should be around 16 if the Sox had an offense.

You can pay Leyland 10 million a season and he wouldn't be returning.

You sure you want to settle for Leyland, what with Whitey Herzog and Jack McKeon just out there for the taking?

Boston would not trade JBJ in a Sale package. Why would they do it for Q. They also will not trade Rodriguez in a package for a pitcher. Swihart is a left fielder and no longer a catcher. Boston's starting pitching has been really good since All Star braek. Dombrowski will probably look for a Hellickson or Gray deal.
