winninguglyin83
I remember the guy Cooper followed -- Nardi Contreras. It could be worse. Much worse.
Jerksticks
Good for Don C. He's sure earned it and then some. Hard to argue against his contributions here.

GreenSox
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 8, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) I'm laughing at this... how does one develop a #4 or 5 starter? I think Q had the ceiling of a 4 or 5 in many's eyes but turned out better than that. In short, there aren't many pitchers who are long term #4 or 5 starters, you either improve or get replaced. Putting that blame on Cooper is asinine. Same way they develop any other pitcher. Several pitched today in the playoffs - like the Dodgers and Nats starters. Cooper hasn't developed many to get replaced. The White Sox front office often falls for these frauds thinking that they're top rotation guys when they're not . bottom line is that the guru as presided over the pitching staff that has been no better than average for years despite an absolute ace on that staff. Dick Allen
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 01:02 AM) Business 101 says it's never wise to rip on the people paying the freight. Mark In your estimation, how many people have not attended a White Sox game because Don Cooper complained about the amount of people who attend? I am not a big Coop guy BTW. But his comments, while I am sure the team would probably wish he would keep to himself, really don't do any harm. In fact, he does praise the people who do attend games. But at least up to this point, while I have seen many excuses why people don't attend games, and IMO if you don't want to go, that's fine, you just don't get $200 million free agents, unlimited international spending, etc., I have yet to see one person say they aren't going because Don Cooper ripped people not supporting the team. Really gonna use the Dodgers as an example of a team that develops 4th and 5th starters? Lmao, the same team that went out and traded for Hill, signed McCarthy and Blanton in the offseason, paid a crazy amount to Maeda when he posted. The exact acquisition model that puts you in a hissy fit and now they are great at developing 5th starters.

Just wondering, if the team is intending to go for a full rebuild and trade Sale and Q, would you retain Cooper??? I would think Renteria would bring in a younger pitching coach to work w Rodon, Fulmer and young pitchers drafted and added via trades. Maybe this means Q and Sale are not being dealt. Younger doesnt mean better. That being said, i think Coopers time has run its course in Chicago, and I would have let Renteria pick his own guy should he choose to do so(and he may like Cooper and be comfortable with him, but we will never know). But I wouldnt let Cooper go with the idea of going young at the Pitching Coach position
southsider2k5
For my two cents unless you think a guy like Rich Dotson or Bobby Thigpen is ready for the big time, I don't see the Sox getting rid of Don Cooper. The minor league system is set up around this system of instruction, and it seems to feed all of the way up through the minors to Chicago. If you fire Cooper, it very well could mean starting over in terms of pitching development style.
Jake
Are we sure that it isn't the case that Renteria really wanted to keep Cooper around? I'd have to think if Cooper went on the open market, almost any team with even mild dissatisfaction with their pitching coaches would be eager to snatch him up. Seeing as RR was afraid to make his feelings on succeeding Ventura known, I doubt he would have taken on Cooper if he didn't want him. Agreed, especially considering that our pitching has been average at worst under Coop's tenure and the major arm injuries have been few and far between. Donaldo
If that Crain for Arrietta trade would've gone through, I wonder if Cooper would've done as well with Jake A. as Bosio has?
