Like, who is the strong leadership figure Getz is going to get his guidance from early on when he is still green? Is it Kenny Williams? Don Cooper? Frickin' Buddy Bell??

This is a great question.

Rick Hahn

Seems like a Hahn guy.

Fellow Michigan man.

They let him switch out the top scout, so maybe this too.

Our only trade deadline addition was a New Trier kid. The new director of player development a former Michigan student. All Hahn needs to do is add a Harvard Law grad somewhere in the org and he's covered most of his alma maters.

I'll admit I can't prove this one, but as of now I can't argue successfully against the nagging feeling that this front office has just gotten lazy. Don't think it's worth the time to interview other candidates for the managerial spot, basically the entire coaching staff is filled by promoting from within, those guys are replaced with guys that they already have in house or know personally. "Scheduling interview is hard work and we just don't feel it's worth it."

Like I said, wait until we see a press release. Hahn will provide some commentary on the move and hopefully we'll be able to tell if they went through a legit interview process or just hired a guy they liked from back in the day.

Even if they did interview qualified candidates, I get the impression that White Sox leadership does not like to be challenged. That goes with not bringing in outside talent and the secretive nature of the regime.

Meet Jeremy Haber, your Chicago White Sox Assistant GM. The Genius who picked Todd Steverson:

While he is a former Sox player, he has experience outside org and is definitely new blood for the org.

If you can name a better person for the job, please do.

Well that's a bit unfair, don't you think?

I don't think it is but I definitely thinks this unfair to criticize a move and it's process, when you don't know the happenings behind the scenes.

If you think this is a bad move, please name me someone who you would like instead.

This organization has lost the benefit of the doubt.

Two years of experience for this job is worthy of scrutiny.

So really, that pretty much means there would be a problem with just about any hire, unless it was some guy who was a farm director of another organization churning out talent. those guys generally don't move to the same job in other organizations. Getz did play here, but he has been trained by KC. Only a couple of years, so we will see. Obviously they liked the way he answered some questions. Personally, I don't know what to think. I am not at all familiar with his eye for talent and philosophy. I do think if he never played for the White Sox, and had the same experience, not as many would be dismayed.

I also like that they hired a guy that has zero ties to any current minor leaguer. I do think that it is natural to give many players the benefit of the doubt they don't deserve when you have ties to them.

Well, i agree with a previous poster. Chris has two years of experience.

That seems a bit light.

I wonder which teams the Sox beat out for the services of Getz for a position of similar significance.

This is a good point, and it's something you could wonder about a lot of our hires.

Also agree with Balta that this has a lazy feel.

Also agree with DA that it would've been tough to make us happy on this one. But s***, we've been bad for four years and this FEELS - fairly or not - like same old same old.

It does but what would be the minimum amount? He went to Wake Forest and Michigan so he probably is a bright guy. Baseball being a non revenue sport doesn't make it as necessary to lower academic standards to recruit players. I know nothing of his acumen for development, but it is possible he may be pretty good.

People felt good about hostetler and thrilled with paddy, even liked Stevenson. It's untrue anyone would have been met with pitchforks. For instance, an asst director of player dev from another successful org could have been very intriguing. Instead, a former sox player with no real resume. It just hasn't really worked for us. There is no Coop can fix em here
