One thing that hasn't really been mentioned is how little they're paying for the naming rights. As the deadspin article pointed out, this deal is $2.4 million AAV below league average. Further, if the White Sox are so cash hungry, why not keep the naming rights and change the name back to Comiskey Park, like most Sox fans want anyway, and just go forward with a full rebuild, which will put a lot more than $2 million AAV into the owners' pockets, and then go for a Citi Field-esque naming rights deal when a competitive team emerges from the talent purge?

Is that even correct that most Sox fans want the stadium to be changed back to Comiskey Park? Have the fans been polled?

The more I've read up on Charles Comiskey, the more the guy seemed to be a douchebag. And it's not like old or new Comiskey Park was associated with a grand legacy of winning World Series like Yankee Stadium.

I'd be open to something entirely different and new.

He was an ass but people equate the Comiskey name to the old ballpark more than they do the actual guy. I'm sure if you polled the fans, the vast majority would vote for the Comiskey name. Like I said in the original thread about the name change, I personally couldn't care less but it opened them up to more negative feedback that they quite frankly have earned.

Hell, I still call the music theatre at Harlem & I-80 the World Music Theater. I

I had no clue that joint was called Hollywood casino amphitheater.

I passed on seeing Def Leppard as I thought Hollywood Casino Amphitheater was at the Hollywood Casino and I had no clue where that was at...I thought it was in Aurora or Schumburg.

I think this is accurate. Plus I don't know how many people have actually researched the guy to know.

I couldn't tell you for sure if it's accurate. Given that most baseball fans love tradition, and every Sox fan that has ever expressed a stadium name preference to me has stated they'd like a return to Comiskey Park, I assumed that that was the case, and I'll grant that my assumption could be wrong. That said, it doesn't seem that anyone likes this name, and for the peanuts they're getting in the rights deal, they might end up making more by taking the naming rights back and doing something with it that will make the fans happy. I know that apparently Guaranteed Rate sweetened their offer by adding a large advertising package in which all of the money goes directly to the team, but I think they would've been willing to do that anyway. Either way, I'm going to continue to call it Comiskey Park, just as I did when U.S. Cellular had the naming rights.
