YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
I think what a lot of you guys fail to realize in a Sale trade is that it's HIGHLY unlikely that any particular guy they acquire will be as good as Sale is right now. Take Boston for example. Everyone wants Benintendi, for good reason. Will he be as good as Sale, even a couple years from now? Probably not. Sale has been the 2nd best starter in all of baseball since 2012 and produces ridiculous amounts of WAR year in and year out. With that being said, can the Sox win a Sale trade? Absolutely. The Sox could trade a legit superstar (Sale) for a potential All Star (Benintendi), a well above average third baseman if he pans out (Devers) and the catcher of the future (Swihart). Trading Sale fills 3 holes in the everyday lineup (CF, 3B, C) that have been barren for the most part for years, and that doesn't even consider that they'd most likely get a high potential starting pitcher to take his place (Rodriguez) and a high octane bullpen arm (Kopech). Of course the pitching would get worse short term, but the Sox have shown an ability to develop pitching and they wouldn't be contending in the next year or two anyway if they made this trade. If they're trading Sale, they need to trade for elite hitters. A lot of them. Everyone with the exception of Rodriguez would be controlled through at least 2023, so they could transform the team from being "mired in mediocrity" into a bunch of young, hungry, high potential players with the ability to add a marquee free agent like Harper in a few years if everything goes according to plan. Bigsoxhurt35
Remember that all it takes is ONE team to pull the trigger in a horrific pitching FA class. I laugh at people who don't think someone will.
COACH612
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) Which is exactly why getting 3 or more starting players out of a Sale deal is so vital. If we trade Sale, I agree with you the Sox need at least 3 solid players. If we get less it may leave too many holes. The offense is just plain bad. If the past is any indication of the future, I don't trust scouts or coaches to develop the younger players. How has that worked out in the past? Dick Allen
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) Ok, so utilizing your logic, does the White Sox operation typically involve rebuilding? Are we currently looking at rebuilding? They have traded for prospects before. Eaton and Quentin were really good. Molina, Castro, Davidson, Avi....kind of scary. iamshack
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) If they do it the Cubs way, they are going to need about $500 million. If they aren't going to spend a lot more money, they aren't going to win consistently any way you slice it. How many teams with average payrolls are good every year? If they do what the Cubs way? Rebuild? $500 million over how many years?

Dick Allen
The other thing that hopefully is changed soon, is a team like the White Sox is penalized a lot more for signing a QO free agent than a team like the Yankees. Forget the bigger financial burden because of less revenue, mediocre teams give up more valuable draft picks than good teams.
