southsider2k5
White Sox: Too weird All of the questions about the Sox's enigmatic character resurfaced when they lost five straight games to the less talented Twins, all but deciding the A.L. Central title and leaving general manager Ken Williams "in shock." Manager Jerry Manuel will be fired, three months too late. And the team's failure to reap postseason revenue will lead to significant changes; the Sox's home attendance, ranked 21st in the majors, doesn't justify keeping the team intact. The loss of several potential free agents -- most notably staff ace Bartolo Colon, center fielder Carl Everett, second baseman Roberto Alomar and closer Tom Gordon -- would reopen major holes. Designated hitter Frank Thomas also could depart if he declines his share of a mutual option. "My mentality won't allow me to do anything but go for it," Williams says. "I know Jerry (Reinsdorf) is at a point in his life É it's been 23 years (as owner) for him. He was looking forward to having this team in the playoffs because of all of the weapons we had at our disposal. "I don't have any quibble whether the payroll is $55 million, $60 million or hopefully even above that. We'll make it work." Williams can start by hiring a more effective manager. Sox1422
Let's hope Reinsdorf isn't just blowing smoke up our asses about his wanting a Championship before he dies. It starts with getting rid of Manuel and then signing a big name (Tejada) free agent or two (Castillo).

"I'll give up all 6 of the NBA Championship rings for 1 World Series ring."----- Jerry Reinsdorf MY ASS! :fyou
SuperSteve
I think he just basically said stuff we already knew. The payroll issues just show how we need to get rid of several high price players. I am not sure Everett is the right guy to leave. I think Castillo would be better than Alomar, his speed and he would be a good leadoff hitter.
