Black_Jack29
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) This. There is a reason they were ok with dealing him. Dude is a dickface Yep. This and Sale's historic lack of dominance in September make me OK with dealing him.
bighurt574
A little disappointed with the bottom/depth of the deal, but we obviously gave up some of that to land Moncada.
fathom
Happy we traded Sale before he broke down. Thought we started to see signs of it last year. I wonder if we hear leaks about how awful he was to Ventura, etc

RockRaines
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Pretty much. I know our season ticket group stretching back 40 years was officially disbanded last week. Doubt were alone. Sox are going to be in for an extremely rough time these next few years. The writing was on the wall with what the Cubs did. Even if they stiched together something that looked ok on paper, they were going to have a rough year at the box office. hogan873
With the way this team has played the last few years I am much more interested now. I like the trade overall, and I'm excited to see what happens next.
BigHurt3515
Love Moncada (not the K's), not sure if the others are enough. Kopech is a bigger hot head then Sale, Basbae is a strikeout king as well, and the other is a filler that might end up being a reliever
steveno89
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) Or they form the super pen of all-time with Burdi, Kopech, Nate Jones, Fulmer, Hansen, etc. All starters out of games from the 5th inning on. Feel bad for Saladino, but he might still end up at 3b again...at least this year. Kopech to me profiles as a reliever, albeit one with considerable upsiude Basabe striking out at a 28% rate in single A scares me Diaz is a reliever at best Moncada as a centerpiece is great, but I really thought the package would be deeper
chitownsportsfan
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Anyone disappointed with this needs to scale back and realize we acquired a near MLB ready, #1 prospect in baseball that is one of the highest regarded ever. Hopefully more is on the way, but Hahn got his "untouchable". Bummed to see Sale go - he's a Top 5 Sox pitcher all time, definitely most talented. But the rebuild has begun. Yep. Getting Moncada is the key. He's one of the most highly thought of prospects ever. This is like getting a potential Frank Thomas. Not saying he's going to have a 60 WAR career but as far as getting a MLB "sure thing" position player stud this is about as good as it gets and that is what the Sox needed. RockRaines
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Happy we traded Sale before he broke down. Thought we started to see signs of it last year. I wonder if we hear leaks about how awful he was to Ventura, etc His hero is Drake LaRoche. Pretty sure there were several people in the clubhouse who he was awful to. Black_Jack29
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) These Kids Can Play Round 2? Note that the Sox made a significant leap between The Kids Can Play of 1999 to the 95-win division champs of 2000. If the Sox make intelligent moves for Melky, Robertson, and Frazier, we may have a really nice team by late 2018.

aboz56
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) Someone break down the other prospects in the deal PLZ Text from a friend: Basabe Venezuelan CF played high a last season. Hit .258 with 25 steals 50 some rbis. He is 20 Diaz 22 year old Dominican pitcher. Reliever who averaged a strikeout per inning in low a, but walks too many
RockRaines
I'm taking minor league K rates with a grain of salt after seeing what some of the Cubs players did. Its possible its not as important as initially thought
dpd9189
If Moncada lives up to the hype then this is a great get regardless of what the other 3 guys do or don't do. Sox have a real ass core player now.
caulfield12
http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2...boston_r_1.html We now have an extremely young and talented Venezuelan future CFer who has some real pop...and that quality will play much better in USCF than a BradleyJr. Or Robles. Rowand44
QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) I am much more interested to check in the progress of 4-5 "kids" every day than see if Avi made any errors and how many times Frazier struck out. Right. I don't get how the last few years could have been interesting to anyone.

NCsoxfan
6. Luis Alexander Basabe, OF DOB: 08/26/1996 Height/Weight: 6’0” 160 lbs. Bats/Throws: S/R Drafted/Acquired: Signed August 2012 out of Venezuela for $450,000 2015 Stats: .243/.340/.401, 7 HR, 15 SB in 256 PA at short-season Lowell Future Tools: 60 speed, 60 glove, 55 arm, 50+ power Role: 50+—Solid-average regular in center field So, this is aggressive. Again. Basabe’s numbers weren’t terribly impressive, but the tools he showed (at times) sure as hell were. He’s got plus bat speed from both sides of the plate, and while there’s more present power from his natural right side, there’s enough strength to project above-average power from both sides of the plate. He’s shown the willingness to take a walk, but more than that, he’s able to work counts into his favor. While this puts him in a position to maximize his hit tool, the length in his swing pairs with those deep counts to result in plenty of strikeouts. He’s a plus runner who gets good jumps when attempting steals, so this could be a 30-plus stolen base player. Basabe is far more advanced defensively, and you could argue this is the best outfield glove in the system, even over the solid Benintendi. He’s not quite as efficient with his routes, but he’s more athletic and has a stronger arm. It’s strong enough that he could handle right field without any issues whatsoever. There’s lots of work to be done, but if everything goes right he’ll be another Boston player who you’d love to hit near the top of the lineup. It’s really not fair, is it? Bret Sayre’s Fantasy take: Somewhere, Wilson Karaman is maniacally laughing. Basabe is intriguing as an upside play and a potential power/speed outfielder in the mold of what some of us (cough, cough) thought Jake Marisnick might be on his way to becoming. He’s too raw to throw numbers on right now, but he’s a risk worth taking if you’re short-season diving. Major League ETA: 2019 Basabe looks pretty good to me!
