One of these trades, we need to bring some catching talent back...particularly on the defensive side.

Perhaps Adams or Tate as the third piece instead of Judge...if you can get Torres and Rutherford and one final flier (ala Diaz), that's about the best we can do with NY.

Whatever path they choose, they need to look reminiscent of the potential 2014/15 Cubs in 2019. Rutherford becomes the pivot for the whole deal, depending on scouting evals.

I agree the sox need to bring in some additional catching depth if Collins can't stick behind the dish. Ideally they're targeting high minor assets like Garret Stubbs with Houston, Carson Kelly with the Cardinals, Pedro Severino with the Nats, Austin Barnes with the Dodgers, Victor Caratini with in the cubs system or Tom Murphy with the rockies, failing that there are other interesting catchers further down the pipeline in the dodgers system like Keibert Ruiz and Donny Sands in the yankee's system.

I think the deal starts with Torres and then one of Frazier or Rutherford, an additional arm like Fowler/Adams/Montgomery and a lotto ticket like Sands or Perez.

I gotta say I love the Mahalanobis Comps of Carlos Gonzalez for Frazier & Edgardo Alfonzo for Torres.

a future of infield of Torres/Anderson/Moncada just scream athleticism and defense.

As I said in my post you quoted, there's not enough of those high OBP/power players to go around so if power is the desire then sometimes we have to take the strike outs that come with that power.

And what I'm saying is that if the choice is between a big power, high K guy or a guy who makes better contact, has very good plate discipline, but doesn't have good power, I'd prefer to see the Sox gravitate toward the latter player.

Sports mockery is reporting the white sox asked for severing, Mateo and Frazier for Quintana. I highly doubt that was their request

Ya, that sounds more like a guess by sports mockery. Unless for some reason the Sox see something in Severino they can fix/tweek. Sports mockery should be shut down for spewing fake news, lol.

Haha agreed. I would be pissed off if Quintana was dealt for such a poor return. I'd rather keep him than accept that package

Agreed.

In Jack Curry's video on YES from earlier he was saying Hahn is going to want the yankees top 4 or 5 prospects to land Quintana; sounds great...Also said its unlikely this deal gets done.

The entire point in the discussion between bmags and I was how we can see why some Sox fans would be interested in a power bat like Judge because the Sox have been devoid of power despite playing in a HR friendly ballpark. That's it, nothing more. Feel free to read the last few pages.

That's a pretty great deal, buying low on Severino is vintage White Sox. Frazier and Mateo make a ton of sense for a team obviously trying to build up the middle. Compare it to the rumored Astros proposal

Frazier = Tucker

Mateo > Martes

Severino > Musgrove

Severino has immense talent, and his high ERA last year corresponded with an identical FIP as his hysteria inducing 2015 campaign. Perhaps in a vacuum Severino and Musgrove are equal (maybe even a slight edge to Musgrove), but to the White Sox there is a distinct appeal Severino has. And for those saying the Sox need more position players, well here is one of the best OF prospects in the game who will break camp in AAA and another MIF prospect (can never have too many) who has literally 80 speed.

But why would the Yankees trade Frazier when they need him in 2017?

Also, if Benintendi was "untouchable," it's hard to imagine turning down him and Kopech for Q (and NOT getting him for Sale)...that doesn't make any sense, because that makes it seem as if the entire deal hinged on Basabe being included as the 3rd piece AND the choice between Benintendi vs. Moncada (ceiling/floor).

Yankees will probably leave Frazier in AAA most of the season. His callup to AAA last year was a bit aggressive.

Frazier may play in 2017 but I doubt he's in their plans. It'll be Gardner, Ellsbury and Judge in the OF to start the season. Cashman wants to get rid of Gardner but I dont think he'll be able to, and if they have him on the roster they are going to start him.

Frazier could use more time at AAA and the Yanks have Ellsbury, Gardner, Hicks and Holliday in their outfield so at this point there's no room for Frazier.

Rumored Beni deal was at the deadline

Isn't Holliday going to be their DH? 1B? He's going to play everyday in the OF?

It's hard to imagine a legit contending team relying on the likes of Hicks and Judge in their line-up, but who knows?

Also difficult to rationalize trading for Frazier and then leaving him parked in AAA all year unless they have such low confidence in the complementary players.

Duh Hahn is gonna say that, then you negotiate and go from there.

I'm not a fan of Mateo. .300 OBP. I think Martes is a #2 starter. I'd rather have Martes. I like the Yanks potential headliners better though.

I'm down on Mateo after he posted a .685 ops in high a ball this season. That does not warrant top prospect status, plus his defense was suspect.

I would need two of Torres, Frazier and Rutherford plus one or two more prospects to make a deal happen.

Things like this are where people take stats a little too literally. Sure he put up a .685 OPS. He did it at age 21 in High A ball, where he was nearly two years under the league average age. He struck out at a pretty low rate. He has insane speed. He has average power to go along with plus tools across the rest of the board.

I would take Judge but it's a hard decision. Judge is closer to show and has shown a good walk rate. Mateo could provide us with an infield like the Phillies 05-10 teams

Edit: thought phillies had better 3b than Feliz. It would be good, let's say that.

Your guy Mateo vs Rodgers from Rockies? Who do you like? Rodgers is a year younger who played a level lower and clearly out-hit Mateo. I would jump on Rodgers like a tall dog. If Q goes, Sox are likely to get one of these kids in return.

I think I'd rather have Mateo for the defensive utility and speed elevating his floor considerably. I really like Judge, but if he cant hit the defense and baserunning wont propel him the way it will Mateo. OTOH Mateo probably starts next year in A+, so he's quite a bit further off than Judge who will be ready to go opening day. Its really a close call between the two.

I actually think a Mateo, Judge, Kaprielian package is better than either of those Rutherford headlined deals.

Are any of the Yankees positions player prospects just raking the ball in the minors? Is there a potential Kris Bryant type bat in their system?

Are there any sure bets out of their top ten prospects?

I'd rather have one premier prospect than a bushel full of minor leaguers who may or may not make it very far in the bigs.

I agree. A top twenty starter with that contract should net as close to a can't miss prospect as one could expect. You'd think 2.
