I get a kick out of the people who say they will go to more games this year. Maybe there is a chance you will but overall people won't. If the teams the last 5 or 6 years were hard to watch, and last year's team was actually really good at home, the 2017 team is going to be hard to stomach. What is compelling about watching Derek Holland give up homers and if the don't leave the yard, watching Avi Garcia chase the down? Nothing. Maybe in a couple of years, but if you thought the baseball was too bad to watch before, it isn't going to be better this year. And I have season tickets.

Even Cubs fans stayed away to a certain extent when they did what the Sox are doing.

Right? Lol a lot of these guys won't start off the season in the majors. Their MLB team will look a lot worse. I will still go to about the same amount of games only with no expectations and just enjoying a day/night at the ballpark with good friends and beer.

This board is full of die hards though. Not surprised.

I will go to more games than i would have had we "went for it", but am gonna go to see Mike Trout play, Lindor play, Correa etc.

It's gonna be like 2000 bulls games which were bizarrely fun.

Out of the seven players we acquired, three of them will be ready at some point next year. Giolito & Lopez should be able to step into the rotation immediately, although it's very possible they aren't up until some point in May or whenever the date is to get that extra year of team control. Moncada needs more seasoning and will certainly not be up until that same date. I'm super excited to follow all three of these guys next year.

I find it fascinating that in year 1 of our rebuild, we'll already have three young, high ceiling starters in our rotation. That alone makes 60% of games watchable to me. A dynamic middle infield of Anderson & Moncada should keep the rest of the games at least somewhat interesting. I fully acknowledge that I'm a diehard fan who is excited to watch young players develop, while most casual fans only care about winning. But you know what, who the f*** cares? Attendance & TV ratings don't matter in a rebuild, all we should care about is developing a young core that can lead to sustainable success. And that's exactly what these first two moves are setting us up for.

Lopez pitched 44 innings last year - is that an issue?

They both had a cup of coffee, but there's no reason to rush them at all.

While I believe you're correct, in that there is ZERO reason to rush them/EVERY reason to max out their controllable years, be prepared for morons in the media and moron fans to b**** about how they "want to see Moncada and Giolito play" right away. This will be especially true if any of them show anything in Spring Training; historically, this front office has been suckered by spring training performances.

For my part, Id be ok with any of the new acquisitions not making their debuts for the Sox until they're not only "ready," but DOMINATING down in Charlotte, and they force a move up.

You'd have to be a full blown dumbass not to know this. It's gonna be rough in '17 and '18 as far as W/L goes. But it's been rough 90% of the time since '05. Come '19? My goodness. This team is gonna be so sick. For the first time in years it feels good to be a Sox fan. What a time to be alive!

Welcome back, my friend!

The thing about Turner is he is going to regress to the mean. He isn't a .342 hitter. He isn't a 25 home run guy. He's still valuable player, but ..

Oh I think you're right...however, what he did last year when he was up lined up with his career norms in many ways. The average is real, (he's been over .300 everywhere), the speed is real, the gap power is real and gap power usually translates to HR power at some point. I saw him play a few times when he was with Fort Wayne in 2014 (very early read on him) and the guy was notably mature at the plate. He did some fine situational hitting, sprayed the ball all over the field and laced a few rockets off the wall. I think 25 HRs is possible in the near future--much like Chase Utley. Now whether he consistently puts all those tools together at the same time...who knows...but the skill is real enough that it's possible.

I want both Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman and I would be willing to give up more in the deal to ensure that. Q + Frazier for those two plus a couple low prospects.

Very doubtful that Houston makes Bregman available. If I were Houston I would not trade him, although I would recognize the need they have for reliable starting pitching.

They could build a package like: Martes, Tucker, Reed plus one more for Quintana that would offset them not including Bregman. Teams generally do not want to subtract from their major league production to add a high end player, they view it as addition by subtraction.

For Q, I'd want Martes, Tucker, Perez, and Stubbs.

I think a dark horse to watch for Q is Colorado. Have a roster capable of going to the playoffs now, need a TOR starter and maybe some pen help. Anyone think you could do Q & Robertson/Jones for Rodgers/Dahl, Hoffman, Tapia, and Murphy?

If Houston wouldn't trade Bregman for Sale, they aren't going to move him for Quintana.

I'd be very pleased with a Houston return of Martes, Tucker, Fisher, and Cameron.

Exactly the return I want, and one that seems justified by this week's comps

If we got any of Rodgers, Dahl, Tapia, or Murphy (whether in a package for Quintana, Abreu, Frazier, or a reliever), I'd be elated. Those guys have great potential.

It would be nice to hear Quintana linked to Colorado. Especially after that quite questionable Desmond signing. Getting some sort of combination of Rodgers+ Hoffman/Tapia would be fine with me.

Yeah, its going to be a lean couple of years. But I'll still have my season tickets and enjoy going to the games. It will remind of the late 80's with Danny Pasqua leading the team with 15 hrs and Ivan Calderon (RIP) wandering around the outfield.

No need for season tickets, walk right up and buy the game you want to go to. Get below face on the internet

True. But I like the seats and the beer vendor knows what and when to bring me the beverages. Plus I should be in a good seat to catch the many HRs from the opposing teams.

Oddly quiet this morning. I'm still expecting a deal for us today, regardless of how quiet the Thursday of meetings usually is.

The meetings end when the Rule 5 is completed. Travel day. Don't expect anything today, and maybe not until next week.

Has Quintana been linked to the Yankees at all? If they were willing to give up Frazier, Rutherford, and Andujar I think they'd be fairly close.

Plus, it would be amazing to sell Q back to the Yankees after we got him off of their scrap heap.

I don't think the Yankees are prepared to sell off the farm while they are rebuilding. That is a team that really could use arms though. Their starting pitching is somewhat of a mess outside of Tanaka.
