I mean from Houston's standpoint - to get a pitcher like Q for that ask. Pull the trigger all day if you're Luhnow with how consistent Q is. As another poster said, I bet the hangup was the inclusion of Musgrove off their MLB roster.

I can't see it being Musgrove.

I think its either Tucker or Martes, or even both they don't want to move. Don't you think if this was about Musgrove they would have figured this out by now?

If you're Luhnow, and Q goes to Colorado, for example, then you're stuck with either Verlander or Archer most likely, and the Rays can bend you over the barrel on Archer. They have to be aware of that and Joe Musgrove isn't worth risking putting yourself in that position over.

This is about Tucker and/or Martes.

Saw someone on Twitter saying that Buster Olney said that he could see the Rockies offer Rodgers/Tapia/Pint for Q and the Pirates offer Glasnow/Meadows/Bell or Newman.

I'd take either....

The Rodgers/Pint/Tapia deal makes a ton of sense for the rox. Their infield isn't going anywhere with Story at SS and Arenado at 3B till he his FA in '19, Pint hasn't reached A and Tapia doesn't have a place in that outfield especially with them signing desmond.

Rodgers could fit the bill for 3B of the future or replace TA or Yoan if they fail to make adjustments and flame out. Pint has a TOR arm but hasn't made it to A ball yet even after being the #4 pick overall last year and Tapia if everything breaks right you could be looking at a Kevin Pillar / Devon White type of player in CF.

I like the alleged Pirates offer but that seems steep even after seeing what Sale and Eaton got, i could see one of Glasnow or Meadows + Bell or Newman + Mitch Keller.

Either package and I would be happy.

Pint and Beer on a future Sox roster would be pretty hysterical

Sox can't really do it without Martes and Tucker

Yes please. Big fan of Meadows, much moreso than Bell and I really like Newman. Don't know about Keller much, but his peripherals in the minors look damn good.

I love that Rockies offer. All players are far enough off that their risk is legitimate for Rockies to consider but talent so huge it's compelling for white sox.

Thats my take on it as well, it pushes this rebuild as a dark horse for '19 more so than '18, but thats fine if you're getting another TOR arm in Pint and a prospect on that same caliber as Swanson and Bregman but further off while still getting a major league piece you can stash at AAA for most of '17 in Tapia to see what if anything Tilson/Engel and Liriano are and if Avi has any chance at redemption.

That's why it's not been done yet :)

I think Musgrove may be the problem. Lunhow specially mentioned a 2017 piece. You can make a good case he is their #3 starter right now, If he made the trade he improves his top 3, but has the same 4/5.

Tucker he probably would have to swallow deep to trade, but I think ultimately he would do it if he was just giving up prospects.

Could be...but I think that was just his bs excuse for not moving Bregman.

If it is about 2017, I agree with someone else who said toss in Gonzalez for all we care.

Feels like the Pirates are better off trading Cutch eventually and reloading/bridging rather than making a go for broke move...the risks are too high for them, and Q doesn't sell seats by the nature of his quiet effectiveness.

The Rockies and Astros are going to be forced "all in" sooner or later by nature of the divisions they are in, while a team like the Braves can still take a more measured or careful approach.

Who will be the GM like Beane with Shark in 2014 that cracks?

Verlander, Greinke, Archer and Gray continue to be the likely competition (for Q), and the first two are out of the realm of possibility for all but 6-8 teams in baseball that simply don't want to give up their minor league stockpile and can simply afford to buy talent. IMO Duffy becomes a threat as a cheaper mid year rental. Will be interesting to watch it all play out. I'm sure we will be holding our breaths every game where Q is above 100 pitches. Thankfully, pragmatism for Renteria will win the day, but it will frustrate Jose to no end. Thankfully, he's had five full seasons to get acclimated to no decisions/lack of run support and also can see the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of a fresh start elsewhere.

Have to hope and pray Q, Jones and Robertson stay healthy if we hold onto them into the regular season. Thankfully, the two biggest concerns in Sale and Eaton are already out the door, at least.

Fiers and McHugh are both on the roster, right?

Obviously, McCullers is the big wild card with that staff living up to expectations. They could have gone with the likes of Rich Hill, Cashner or Volquez, for example.

After thinking more about it, I really like the Rockies offer based on Rogers headlining the package. That package is a more reasonable offer than the one proposed about Pitt. A future indie!d of Moncada, Anderson and Rogers sounds good to me.
