KMule2545
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) Same here as well. The idea of X player will just play this position that he never played before. It requires thousands and thousands of reps to drill in some of this first step footwork for those who never played the OF especially a premier position such as CF. Unless you are okay with your really fast player chasing balls he misplayed in the gap or on the other side of it getting hurt because he is trying to make up for a bad jump and diving. In reality we need to make sure we attempt to develop him at his natural position first. I don't see lots of people complaining that Dustin Pedroia, Javey Baez or Jose Altuve are wasting their talents playing 2b. Middle infield is a premier position and I dont care if my best athletes are up the middle of the infield first. I'm with you. 95% of the time you can't just throw someone who has played the IF their whole life into CF, which is BTW one of the most difficult positions on a baseball field to master defensively with SS and C. One thing I'm particularly happy about with this thread is that it seems like the White Sox aren't going to play around with him. They are coming right out and saying "we're going to put him at 2b". That's a positive sign and exactly what I would want them to do with him - make a call and stick with it even if they have needs at other positions. The job is to turn him into a decade long all star - everything else is subservient to that goal.

Ozzie Drills, 2 and 4 step work, short hop work, clock drill work. Just hard work of taking reps over and over. They did a lot of basic mechanical work with him to help him become better. I am positive that the sox have someone who has a similar role with the sox. I can only hope that they attach that person with our young prospects and focus on their defense. In the minor leagues the only thing I want is the prospects to have the best and brightest talent to work with them and help develop them. From Defense to hitting to our pitchers. The irony is...you just made the correct and convincing case that the White Sox don't have anyone like that, or at least didn't as recently as 2014. Hopefully they've hired someone since then.
