bmags
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Mentioned that in the Abreu thread. Hahn and Hostetler were hinting that since this past draft for 2018. They hinted at it for last draft, but I do think with the new allotments it will be harder to get those 2nd 3rd round high schoolers when you are only 10th. Will be easier with our budget this year. Not to mention different draft philosophy and of course there's much more data and such these days. Still doesn't mean they'll make the right picks, but it never hurts to have as many lottery picks as possible.

beautox
4. Chicago White Sox If the Giants are running on borrowed time, the White Sox have all the time in the world. Trading away their existing core for a king’s ransom of prospects that will put them in an enviable position in the AL Central. Additionally, their recent draft history shows that they can build on their own. Since the White Sox have a lot of major league ready talent, and only so many spots to fill for the future, it makes sense here for them to break their 4 year college streak and look at the prep class. Matt Liberatore is this year’s top lefthanded pitcher. He may not have the speed of an ace, but he makes up for it with outstanding pitching discipline and mechanics that throws off hitters. Much like Ethan Hankins, Liberatore is built to be a pitcher, but a few more pounds would help. Much like Shane McClanahan, his best secondary pitch, actually his best pitch is his changeup. He’s also a workhorse, rarely losing velocity late in the game. Liberatore could be part of a second wave of top White Sox prospects, and if he can build his velocity up, could potentially become a second starter in the organization. https://medium.com/minor-league-madhouse/20...on-75bb9b03f3e9

Yeah he said in to the Athletic. Here's the quote: JF: Guys who are near the top of the mock drafts — Brady Singer, Nick Madrigal — at this point you have years of reports on them. How is it that their ranking and these mock drafts can change so much over the next six months when everyone already knows so much about them? Hostetler: That’s a great question that we continue to ask ourselves over and over. I think while it may seem on the outside like it changes so much in that six-month frame, really inside it doesn’t change as much as it may look. We might not have a certain player up where some of the services have them, or we might have a guy who is lower than all these places have them, and we do, it’s one where I was just talking to Rick [Hahn] about him a minute ago, that is nowhere to be found in the top-20 on these services, where if right now we were picking today, would be in consideration at No. 4. I think that sometimes on the outside it looks a little bit more volatile than what it actually is. It’s hard because when you’re investing five, six, seven million dollars on a certain player, you’ve got to be careful how much stock you put into the last look. Also, the first look. You’ve got to get out of your mind maybe what you’ve seen in the past if he just is continuing not to show it. https://theathletic.com/187901/2017/12/18/q...-hes-ever-seen/

The SEC is a really good baseball conference, a couple of historic programs, but Frank Thomas is their only HOFer. How many HOFers are there from other conferences? I feel like going to college limits your ability to make the hall because you are in college for years where HOF caliber guys drafted out of HS might already be in the league. GenericUserName
From Longenhagen's chat today when asked who the Tigers should take 1-1 Eric A Longenhagen 12:06 The guy with the talent to rise up and seize 1-1 is Nander De Sedas, but any of the better college arms could take a step forward and feel so safe that they go 1-1, we just don't know who that'll be for a while Also when asked about HS pitching: Keith 1:20 Top two HS arms for draft this year? Your current opinion. Eric A Longenhagen 1:20 Liberatore and Rocker Interesting he has Rocker over Hankins. And on Burger's former teammate: Kingman's Performance 1:33 Thoughts on Jeremy Eierman? Eric A Longenhagen 1:34 Really like him. All-fields power, chance to stay at SS. Think he's a potential top 10 pick. ron883
Is this supposed to be a stacked year as far as pitching goes? I'm just surprised to see Hankins ranked 3rd among HS pitchers (presumably, by Eric L), let alone all pitchers who will be eligible. The dude has DYN-O-MITE stuff.
