I fully expect Alomar to just fall apart one day, literally. Hes going to get hit with a pitch and pieces will start falling off. What, have you confused Sandy Alomar with Mike Piazza? There's a major difference. Alomar can throw runners out. Plus, he can bring a little more to the table than Paul can...he hits better, he plays better behind the plate, he calls better games, he knows our staff and he will be a good factor in Olivo's growth. Not only that, but what if Paul and Olivo flop? Wouldn't it be nice to have one catcher we can count on what we are getting(which may be good hitting and good catching or may be a guy on the DL who just teaches neat s*** to Olivo)? I think it would be.

Plus if Olivo is a bust, I don't see Alomar as being the savior. I guess in Cerb's world this is a major signing that I should be rejoicing rather than calling him a stiff. But he lives in another world, a world where Kenny Williams is a great GM, I guess. BTW, Cerb, he wouldn't even need to walk down the street WRONG for me to flip out on him. He would just have to walk down the street in my view.
witesoxfan
It's nothing to celebrate over....it is just a minor signing. It is something to be slightly happy or slightly mad about, whichever you feel. It's not like Alomar will cost us $10 million...or atleast I hope he won't. I have no feelings. It's a minor signing that isn't going to make me happy or mad, either way.

DonkeyKongerko
yeah it is a minor signing. about as a minor as when we sign a pitcher that nobodys heard of. if anything he'll speed up the seasoning of Miguel Olivo for his next decade as the white sox backstop. And maybe he'll also make Josh Paul realize how much he sucks.
HawkDJ
It is a little more than a minor signing. Alomar isn't going to help us out any persay offensively or defensively but it will help us to not ruin another prospect in Olivo. As is stood throwing him into the SL and leaving Paul as his mentor is certain disastor for him. Now he doesn't have to start and he has a good mentor. WSFAN35
I wouldn't say goodbye to Paul just yet, he'll be playing a good load of games, considering Alomar may have a great deal of trouble staying healthy. I think he's a great pickup and will do wonders for Olivo's development.
Molto
Cerb wasn't celebrating, you were just complaining. just cause you are complaining over nothing, doesn't mean another is happy over it.
Molto
ignore my post Jav. I didn't see your last response. I thought you were jumping on KW for the signing.

mac9001
Dont be surprised if Josh Paul gets a backup role and Olivio is in AAA.

witesoxfan
Originally posted by mac9001Dont be surprised if Josh Paul gets a backup role and Olivio is in AAA. Personally, I doubt it. It will be like the Ozzie Smith/Royce, the Choice, Clayton for the Cardinals in whatever year it was. They may battle it out, and one may favor heavily over the other, but it had been decided prior to ST. Olivo calls a better game, he has a better arm and may have better defense...I have yet to see that though. He's just as good with the bat and he's just as fast, to go along with more power and the fact that he is the first Sox player to both look and do the same thing as a player he looks kind of like...homer in his first major league at-bat(the last one to do it was Carlos Lee). I believe Olivo did that anyways. Regardless....I think Olivo will be the starter and Alomar the backup with Paul in AAA as the 3rd option, assuming Olivo doesn't flop. Olivo flops and it will be a battery of Alomar and Olivo.
mac9001
I see Olivo starting the season in AAA, if he does well, then he'll get a chance at the bigs.
Cerbaho-WG
I'm pretty sure that Josh has to stay up in the bigs this time, or he's gone.
mac9001
Yeah, i think all his options are taken up.
witesoxfan
So trade him to a team that needs a catcher. I'd take a prospect like Neal Cotts, a young starting pitcher with potential.
Guest hotsoxchick1
exactly ... or just dump him all together...im glad sandys back... been wanting it all along.. with his knowledge and the way the pitching staff here loves him i think he would be a great mentor to olivo.... i wouldnt count on olivo going down to aaa... hes going to come out like gangbusters at spring training.........i wouldnt count sandy out just yet as far as his abilities go... if i recall right when he came back from aaa he was doing just fine in the hitting department... was it one or two homers that first game back??? i think two.......anyhow, he is just what olivo needs to take him to the next level........finally kw makes a good move and i approve fully............about freakin time........now i wonder if he can sign supan for us........... If Alomar commanded a $10 million dollar price tag there's no way he'd be on this team.
