Gammons on Manuel

These guys have enjoyed the Jerry Manuel regime. Of course there will be a mutiny if Backman comes in because Backman rewards performance and gets his teams to hustle. I know if I were a lazy millionaire I would be a little worried if my company was hiring a new ballbuster as my manager.

By the way other names:

Tony LaRussa - staying in St. Louis according to Gammons and StL front office

Larry Dierker - been mentioned before I'm not sure if he's still seeking employment

Larry Rothschild - is currently coaching the best strikeout staff in the majors, may not want to leave

Clint Hurdle, Bobby Valentine, Jim Leyland, Jeff Torborg. In the end there's really no reason to expect someone other than Backman at this point.

Backman may be the most logical choice for this team.

Someone what Girardi has to do with the Sox... Who cares? The man has shown leadership skills his whole career. He's one of the few I'd take who doesn't have any managing experience at any level and I'd take him in a heartbeat. I think Joe Girardi will be a great manager.

Another one I'd take under those circumstances is Sandy Alomar, Jr. Note that they are also both catchers. Not a coincidence.

I don't think I'd want Ozzie Guillen as manager. Just call it a hunch.

and that player most likely wont be here next year anyhow so bring in wally...... :headbang and let the mutiny begin .. hell it couldnt be worse than the one they did for jm........ :D

That is the one of the most ass backwards things I've ever heard.

These players are going to mutiny if Backman is hired?

Last time I looked on the world championship scoreboard it was:

Backman - 1

Entire Sox Roster (sans R. Alomar) - 0

Backman should put down the mutiny by thumping every ballplayer on the skull with his ring.

A championship in the minors does not = one in the bigs.

Just like performance in the minors doesn't = the same in the bigs.

This club needs ML experience.

I don't care who we get, just as long as he shows emotion and can light a fire under the Sox and get them going. No more underachieving. It gets old. Only problem is this team has a bunch of little b****es. We don't want our clubhouse to explode. So bring in the right guy and ship many the Sox away.

I believe Backman was on the '86 Mets.

I also agree that catchers tend to be students of the game more than any other position player. I think a guy like Girardi would make a great manager. Look what Scoscia and Pena have managed to do in relatively short tenures as managers. It says alot about catchers, too bad we have completely alienated Carlton Fisk.

I hate to break it to ya Steve.. but most ML players are "b****es". They are paid a lot of money to play a kids game. They are told my their family, managers, media, owners, and blind fans, that they are so "awesome" and they are "loved" by people who don't even know them. They are products of their environment. If you sent all the b****es packing you might have just enough guys left to make up 4 or 5 ML rosters.

I mean ML managing experience.

No I didn't mean it nessecarily like that. Alot of players are asses, I know that, but I mean who would just absolutly tear the team up, if he was told to do something by the manager, who was right by telling him to do it. Also people who are not team players. I am not talking about money or anything.

And I didnt' mean to imply $$ was a sole reason they are b****es. It does make them think they are better than others though... which, imo, makes a lot of them b****es.

Gammons says nicely what we've been thinking all year.  He says Sox need to find someone that is "a little tougher um... a little stronger...".  Meanwhile Bobby V. plugs Wally Backman to take over the helm.

Gammons ssaid that was what the people in Chicago think. It also sounded like he thought Manuel should be the manager next year although he will probably be released. Valentine did bring up Wally backman, but Bobby V doesn't have a clue what the front office is thinking. We have heard alla bout Wally since the all-star break and it seems now that ESPN is finally hearing it also. As far Valentine, he says he has a job on BBTN and I say let him stay.
