Steve9347
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) $95/day + $70/week to clean the house $545/week total If I could do it again, I'd do daycare. Our daughter is on such a schedule that adjusting now is something we won't do. She'll be hitting preschool in a year anyway.

Jenksismyhero
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) man, child care costs are outrageous. What's fun is when you start going to kids birthday parties, and you start talking to parents. It inevitably comes down to just b****ing about how much day care costs. I've had the same conversation probably 15 times over the last year. I know two dads that have 4 kids under the age of 7-8, each have 3 kids in day care at the moment. That's 55-60k/year. Just to take your kids somewhere to be watched for 8-9 hrs a day.

This is exactly why we quit after two. We wanted to still be able to do stuff with our kids, not just to be able to afford our kids.
Steve9347
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) I didnt see your first post earlier, and this is going to come off as cold, but dont put into contracts "termination for cause." If she is an employee make it clear that she is "at will", which means you can fire her for any reason or no reason. Just no point in putting yourself in a position where you could be liable for wrongful termination. (edit) Its interesting timing because just today I had to leave work cause my dad got sick so he couldnt take care of the monster this afternoon. Any further insight? Direction? I think that makes sense.

Are they w-2 (employee) or 1099 (independent contractor). Either way, if you are writing the agreement just basically put in a section and make it clear that it is employment at will. Do not write anything like "termination for cause etc", as that is just superfluous (since im billing you, Ill use the fancier words so I sound legitimate. ). Jenksismyhero
Don't forget to buy worker's comp insurance (if they work more than 30 hrs/week, state law) and up your personal liability policy too just to cover yourself in case she trips/falls somewhere and breaks a bone. StrangeSox
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 01:03 PM) How are all those "family Video" stores still open, especially in the NW burbs? Porn? It's a weird market they cater to still, I guess, but I've read before that the attached pizza places (I think they all pretty much have one?) are a big part of it. They still make 'movie night' an event in and of itself that the whole family gets involved in. And while it's less convenient than streaming, new rentals can be had for cheaper than you'd pay on Amazon plus they have free kids movies. Some of it's gotta just be last-man-standing. All of their brick-and-mortar competitors are pretty much gone, both chain and small mom & pop stores. But also porn.
