8m-12m: Peter gammons on Pirates/Q. Speculate astros coming back for Q with similar Archer deal. Discuss Pirates getting Q then trading Cole in year or two to recoup.

19m: Dave Dombrowski on Sale

Some interesting notes:

- Wash reports coming out, DD is nervous

- Use thornberg trade to confirm deal is still possible (one player was discussed with chisox prior)

- was not confirmed until next da but that night, Hahn brings up Basabe/Diaz and DD confirms they are open to that

Kinda continues to be confusing. I was sure we used Wash rumors to make Bosox nervous into including devers but seems pretty clear boston was not budging on him + moncada

35 mm hahn - haven't listened to yet.

I figure people are bored and could be interested.

After reading about how DD recounts the story, it almost made me think they were willing to include more when he immediately said yes to including Basabe/Diaz. Obviously you never know, but it made me wonder if Hahn could've asked for more since he hit that offer.

Hahn didn't say much. He mentioned they knew around deadline that they were selling but there were advantages to starting the process in the offseason. Mentioned that players who were just drafted would be available in offseason. Open-minded about moving anyone. They'd make a deal today if presented with right offer. He also reiterated that he has no problem waiting to make deals and it's not a "one year process".

I don't think devers was ever really on the table. Sox could not afford to not take an arm like kopeck back in exchange for sale either.

Diaz is a lottery ticket, but basabe is a very interesting third piece. He could flame out, but the tools to develop into a MLB regular exist

They should've gotten the deal they got + Devers. Sox wound up atoning for their mistake with Boston by doing so well in the Eaton deal, but they handled the Sale trade pretty poorly. If Moncada achieves his ceiling nobody will care (nor should they really) but if he doesn't the lack of depth pieces in the Sale return will be highlighted

I don't think they really could have gotten anything more out of Sale than what they did, aside from maybe one more throw-in. They went with quantity and quality in that deal.

I think you're undermining the value of Kopech and potential Basabe brings. The Sale deal is not a loss for the White Sox nor a win for the Red Sox.

The Basabe of today would have been the White Sox top prospect a year ago.

Per MLB's Rankings

2015: Anderson #38, Fulmer #42

2014: Rodon #19, Anderson #81

2013: Davidson #64

Basabe would have been top in 2012...man, our MLB.com Top 5 was Trayce, Hawkins, Charle Leesman, Nestor Molina and Keenyn Walker.

I'll never forget Nestor Molina.

Keep in mind we had Quintana and Santiago coming out of nowhere that season. Nate Jones and Addison Reed. What did we use, something like 13 rookies over the course of the entire year, mostly in the bullpen.

Q and Santiago have to be the two randomest no ones to All-Stars in recent memory for a while due to their sustained success (outside of this last year for Hector).

Love that we turned Santiago into Eaton and then Eaton into Lopez, Giolito and Dunning. Can't wait to see what we get for Q.
