How is it for the last 10 or more years the only names in Men's tennis that matter is Federer/Nadal/Djokovic/Murray, it should be a young mans sport

No, it almost can't be. The fitness level required to be in the top tier of tennis players simply isn't possible at a young age. Not only do guys have to develop all the shots and then develop in the mental side of the game against top players, but they have to be on crazy fitness regimens to survive a 5-set match as part of a 7-match, 2-week tournament. It may never be a young man's game again.

I historically liked Sharapova because I thought she was really crafty and dug deep in matches to come back when she was dead on the ropes.

But I've really hated the way she has handled everything around her suspension. Really comes across as she wants this to be like an underdog comeback tour for her, and I don't know why she should deserve that.

I think the suspension was pretty ridiculous in length. I've always liked her. Would be better if Serena was playing, in case they met.

Maria back at US Open

They didn't have a choice but to let her in with all the star power gone. Obviously Serena is out, but the mens bracket is getting decimated now.

Wawrinka, Djokovic and Nishikori were 3 of the 4 semifinalists last year, all of them are out. Federer and Murray are questionable.

On the flip side, I'm happy to see some fresh faces have a chance. I don't think he has the fitness yet to win a major, but Sasha Zverev has serious game. He just won two tournaments in a row before losing today in Cincinnati. He'll be a top 10 seed, maybe top 5 if there's that many out of the field.

Sharapova v Halep is a hell of a first round matchup

And Maria wins first step.

Ridiculous that Halep has to face her. All Maria did for 15 months was work out. It's not like she just got off the bench and the 2 seed should walk through.

I'm a huge RF fan but Tiafoe is bringing it!

That was cool. Been a great first two nights of first-rounders. Sharapova-Halep lived up to expectations and Federer-Tiafoe was surprisingly great. Even Zverev's match was strangely competitive (although not that good).

I love tennis for the diversity of levels/locales that go along with it, and for the fact that a few times a year the worlds collide. For example...

I've seen both Federer and Tiafoe play in person. Federer on Cincy's center court, Wimbledon's Centre Court, and just a few weeks ago, Montreal's center court.

Tiafoe I saw playing at the Challenger in Winnetka two years back. (champion gets $7,000)

Just one example, it's fun to see how many of those Winnetka Challenger guys show up at the big tournaments, often playing top seeds.

If I could make myself as a tennis player in a video game, mostly for aesthetics I'd give myself Tiafoe's forehand and Roger's backhand. Was fun last night.

I love Fed, but if we're picking it would be Nadal's forehand and Wawrinka's backhand. I realize Nadal is a lefty and Wawrinka is a righty so that's the same side, but you know what I mean.
