QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 11:05 AM)

I heard a story on NPR last night about this.

http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/201...to-ethical-murk

"The president really can't be out of touch with the Pentagon or other national security officials, so you need redundant communications systems, whether it's at Trump Tower in New York or Mar-a-Lago in Florida," says Mark R. Jacobson, a former senior adviser to the Defense Department and a senior fellow at Salve Regina University. "Since 9/11, it's taken on an increased sense of importance, where you may need the president in communication for a national emergency, even if they're traveling at their home-away-from-home."

In this case, because Trump owns part of Trump Tower and his company manages the building, the Defense Department essentially would have to pay the president rent in order to carry out its mission. The Secret Service also has said it may lease space in the building.

Such an arrangement is unusual but not completely unprecedented: Vice President Biden rented a small cottage on his Delaware property to the Secret Service to work out of. But leasing office space in Trump Tower, a place where single floors can go for $1.5 million a year, promises to be vastly more expensive.

McGehee says the arrangement is one more example of how Trump has managed to use his business interests to profit off the presidency in ways never seen before. She points to the new Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., which some say has become a popular gathering spot for diplomats and government officials looking to curry favor with Trump.

Related, he's probably still in violation of the terms of the lease for the DC Trump hotel

If he had actually divested himself or put these things into a blind trust, the concerns would be a lot lower, but of course he didn't and he and his family will continue to profit immensely off of the office.

Except it's not a ban on Muslims. There is no Muslim Ban, just a way to partisan by liberals.

How many Muslim-majority countries would have to be on the list to constitute a Muslim ban?

43?

Going by the the inverse of the 25% rule we established about Supreme Court nominations (can't nominate in Year 4 of term)....it would be roughly 10-15.

Dont worry guys Chaffetz is on the case!

He has a 43 point to do list and not one of those points is to look into anything related to Trump. That being said, I hear he will continue to look into Hillary's emails, so Greg should be happy.

Greg has been strangely quiet considering Chelsea's recent string of Twitter activity.

You have to give him some credit. He ran for President not to serve but to make money for himself and his family. It seems like it is working.

He got me on that part of it. I thought it was strictly a 100% ego thing, I never caught on to him trying to increase his net worth. My first thought was it will cost him money and worth because he will be so disliked, but he is making money so far.

It was always about the money, nobody even knows if Trump really is as rich as he claimed, thats why this election was about "Making Trump Rich Again".

Pretty sure i said that somewhere in the hundreds of pages about Trump.

I think this is very common. Ari Fleischer (Press Sec for GWB) said that they did the same thing at Bush's ranch. They rented some land and set up a base of operations.

Since Trump is all about America, I'm sure he'll cut the taxpayers on nice deal on the rent, especially considering the bill being rung up because he wife doesn't want to live with him.

See SS's post earlier. It's not uncommon generally (Bush's rent, Biden's cottage, etc.). What is uncommon is the potential cost associated with the rent at Trump Towers or at Mar-a-Lago.

Between Mar A Lago and Trump Tower, you're talking $3-5 million in yearly rent alone, completely throwing out the DC hotel issues (essentially negotiating rent with himself.)

That doesn't even begin to account for additional security costs, to NYC, for example.

Bush spent just $1.3 million buying the ranch/land itself in Crawford.

I can't figure out if you are trolling, or living in denial, or just being super-pedantic because the ExO doesn't use the words "Muslim Ban".

--The President has called it a ban, basically every time he discusses it.

--The President had specifically asked advisors previously how to enact a ban

--The President's press secretary has called it a ban repeatedly

--The ExO specifically targets Muslim-majority nations and gives exceptions (in the pre-period) or favorability (in the post-period) to religious minorities, which mathematically means not Muslims. So functionally, de facto, it's a Muslim ban

It's a Muslim ban. Stop pretending, to yourself or others, whichever way this is working for you.

Even the author of right-wing attack tome "Clinton Cash," who has worked very closely with Bannon in the past, is dubious about the WH promoting Ivanka's line.

Who goes first? Conway or Spicer?

None of them, they have clear and strong support of a majority in Congress and they're making good on their #1 goal - removing people who look wrong?

I was thinking today you guys may not have to worry about my supposed "trolling" any more. I'm not really into politics like many of you. I had strong feelings before the election of course, but I'm not really worked up enough to post anything much post election. I'm still in the "hope for the best" mode and I don't really care about all the stuff Trump's been doing and I am not inclined to defend the attacks on him, cause I really don't like him personally. I feel like he's a 1-percent rich guy who doesn't care about me. However, I'm like I said, hoping for the best. No reason to post anything, however.

As far as the Sox, I'm not into the rebuild cause I don't really care to follow prospects in the minors. I feel like if our team blows as badly as people say it will, I'm just going to assume we're not going to contend and (at this time) can't see myself getting worked up about the team as we lose game after game.

I'm hoping I get excited about the season, but really I'm thinking I should probably call MLB.com and get my membership canceled before the automatic payment thing clicks in.

I guess if we keep the veterans we do have and Moncada starts the season in the bigs, I could get excited if somehow we try to contend. I hope I don't turn into a guy who doesn't follow baseball. I used to know my hockey, but years in Kansas, with no team has turned me into a playoff only Blackhawks fan.

In summation, you may not see much of me on here anymore.

p.s. Specifically regarding Chelsea ... I guess she could still be the first female president, but I would think she'd have to run for some kind of office first and win. Then again ... Donnie Trump won and he's no politician. I wonder if Mrs. Obama has any interest. I think most people would vote for her.

Will be shocked if anything more than "he receives response and then says he is satisfied with response" happens.

They already said she has been "counseled"

When are they going to "counsel" Spicer for telling people to stay at Trump hotels and to buy Ivanka clothing
