I just don't think someone's race, sex or religion is important to a conversation. If greg was a black muslim woman would it be okay for Balta to articulate that is why he doesn't understand something?

if Greg was a black muslim would he be talking about the fictional war on christmas?

If greg was a black muslim would people defend the racial stereotypes Balta hurled at him?

No, Greg would be busy reminding them that his religion is important and theirs isn't. But that's ok because it's right and we should protect his safe space.

I don’t even think the majority of non African Americans understand Kwanza as a cultural celebration and not religious holiday in any way threatening to their Christian beliefs or that it’s NOT some type of BLM outreach/recruiting program where whites are disallowed.

So Greg as a black man would disabuse some of those notions.

You would love for you to say your piece without anyone replying.

Sorry buddy, that's not how it works. Your words have consequences.

I'm still trying to figure out how my words have turned me into a racist monster who hates all religions besides Catholic just because I a.) think Trump's words about Christmas have indeed changed this a bit to where some people are now saying Merry Christmas where they didn't before and b.) how most people think I am Rush Limbaugh incarnated or protege just because I listen to him in my car when I'm driving to lunch once in a while. Greg has been stereotyped big time. I'd love for people to point out specifically what makes me scum?

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 27, 2017 -> 08:16 PM)
I think what makes up a person and their experiences is definitely important to a conversation. We do have to be careful on stereotyping and straight dismissals but understanding why someone has an opinion or why their experiences influence their views is incredibly important to understanding one another.

Nobody is trying to understand my commentary. I am being dismissed flat out for saying I have noticed a difference this Christmas season in people saying "have a merry christmas to me." So I am basically being called a liar and intolerant of other religions. I feel like this is not me and I could send you recommendations from people backing me and saying I'm not scum, far from it.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 27, 2017 -> 08:40 PM)
Since this conversation is about saying the words "Merry Christmas," it is explicitly about religion. If Greg were a black, Muslim woman, I doubt he would think that Donald Trump made it ok to say Merry Christmas again.

I do realize Obama said "Merry Christmas." I don't think, in fact I know, he didn't tackle the issue. All presidents have expressed a belief in God so far. I am not trying to compare Obama and Trump. I like Obama. I'd have voted for him over Trump again. I just don't like Hillary.

I'm trying to figure out where I said I hate other religions. I think you see the name Greg on here and see Rush Limbaugh and Hannity which is unfair just cause I listen to them once in a while instead of the Beatles channel when a s***ty Beatles song comes on. I am not Rush Limbaugh. I am not Sean "annoying voice, whinish" Hannity. I am not an animal. I want to know what I said on here has made me one of the biggest scumbags apparently on Soxtalk.

I am evil and bad and in real life I am considered normal and nice.

greg, where did you get the idea that there was a war on christmas and thats its now "ok" to say Merry Christmas? Honest question.

Through personal observation.

Year after year I never heard "Merry Christmas" uttered anywhere except on Xmas Day at church. Or I never heard in weeks/days leading up to Christmas, the words "Have a merry christmas." There was literally no mention of Christmas. None. Now this is personal observation. Contrary to what is stated on here, when I heard "Happy Holidays" or "Have a happy holiday" I never got mad or thought, "Dammit, say merry christmas!" I did however make a mental note of this and went on my merry way, no pun intended.

Suddenly this year, I happened to catch some of the controversy about Trump going nuts ,even saw the clip of him saying "Merry Christmas" is back. I may have read a thread on here ripping Trump for it or something as well. I didn't think much about it, then I start hearing "Merry CHristmas" or "Have a merry christmas" at some restaurants, coffee shops, SW Airlines on a few different flights. I can guarantee you I never heard it on SWA before.

I thought to myself, "Damn, Trump must have had an effect on this." I actually in my mind credited Trump for something. I didn't go run around screaming, "Glory be! Christmas is back!" It wasn't that big a deal as some on here make it out to be for me. It was something I did notice and approve of. It did not affect me saying "Merry CHristmas" to anybody as I've been trained in PC well enough to not go there. I finally returned the Merry CHristmas the other day and it felt very very weird coming out of my mouth.

To me, these all were holiday observations, not a huge deal. I didn't scream to the heavens, CHRISTMAS IS BACK, THANK U MR TRUMP" I just noticed it which has really really bothered some on here.

To me it was a sequitir not a non sequitir in that because I NOTICED A CHANGE and Trump had spoken out, I deduced perhaps Trump had something to do with it.

IT has been pointed out to me Obama also said it. That is good. I like that. But I do not recall Obama going on a tirade saying we all should say Merry Christmas, hence I have not credited Obama enuf for some people on here.

In conclusion ... thank you for your question. I want to know what about my response(s) make me the scumbag I'm being portrayed to be. I think it stems from nobody believes me and also because i listen to Rush and Hannity on occasion in the car for brief periods of time I am considered to be their disciples/clones.

Continue to flame me, I'm used to it.

Trumps golfing, which he would have no time to do if elected, too busy making deals, has cost taxpayers over $100k in golf cart rental alone for the secret service. Since he golfs at his own properties, guess who benefits?

You would thin a guy who wants to make America great again (insinuating it is not, how dare he) and want to cut spending, would either golf where it is cheaper, or cut the taxpayers a break on the carts, and the lodging, and the food.

up

Thank God for Teump. It is nice this country finally has a President that allows us to say Merry Christmas again.

Greg, do you even realize how stupid the whole argument is? It was a Faux News Bill O'Reilly made up production to rile up Faux News viewers against their non Christian non Faux News viewer fellow citizens. Trump latched on, and you fell for it hook, line and sinker. Good thing you weren't born a fish. You would have been a shore lunch long ago.

Greg, Trump could take credit for the sun rising and you would thank him for green grass. There never was a war on Christmas, people never stopped saying merry Christmas.

You have to give them credit. They were able to convince a bunch of uneducated, ignorant people that this was an actual thing.

It's in your mind. People never stopped saying Merry Christmas. They brought it to your attention, so now you think when people say Merry Christmas, they didn't say it before. It is made up. Trump has a 35 percent approval rating. Do you really think people would start doing something because he said so?

Greg, start using some logic. All the guys you are getting this information from are proven liars. Rush said the hurricanes were a hoax. Trump gets called for his lies on a daily basis and Hannity just licks Trumps balls.

You never noticed it before because it wasn't an issue; people didn't stop saying it. All of a sudden Trump and his state-sponsored media tell you that this is a thing so you start paying attention. And what do you know...you start noticing people when they say Merry Christmas!

If Trump said that people need to start saying "bless you" again when someone sneezes, you'll start noticing when people say it after you sneeze and come to the conclusion that people are now saying it again! Amazing how that works.

Can we all agree that despite it being a religious holiday, that Christmas really isn't a religious holiday? I know plenty of Atheist/religion bashers/non-religious people that love Christmas and go all out celebrating.

its a corporate holiday. Merry give me all of your money for 3 months-day.

Greg - it's mainly that you think this is an important issue. The war on Christmas is a joke. There are Christmas trees everywhere, every year, there are Christmas lights and decorations all over the country, in stores and otherwise. TV shows have Christmas episodes. Networks still air Rudolph. Any "attacks" on Christmas are pushes for inclusion. Hey, in addition to a Christmas tree, let's have a Menorah! Instead of wishing a customer a Merry Christmas, let's wish them Happy Holidays in case they don't celebrate Christmas! Who is hurt by any of that?

There are people in this country who are actually discriminated against. The fact that you (a) think people couldn't say Merry Christmas before; (b) think now people can say Merry Christmas; and © that this is all a victory for Trump is mind boggling.
