flavum
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) Pirates fans have to be the most upset with all these rumors. They have the prospects, but have not been willing to do what it takes. Another mediocre season with no playoffs awaits The Pirates are a perfect example of why I wish baseball would get rid of divisions, and play a more balanced schedule. If they were just competing for one of the top 3 league records, it would make more sense for them to trade for Q. If they feel they can't beat the Cubs with or without Quintana, it's a lot harder to part with top prospects when you're only going to reach the coin flip game, at best. iamshack
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) I don't only because today did not do anything to improve Q's value. Everyone knows he is a terrific starter locked in at an extremely affordable rate for the next four years. Dominating a (bad Reds) team in Spring Training does not really move the needle in terms of Q's talent/affordability. What will move that needle is another team's desperation: major injury or bad performance by another team's starter. I don't foresee that happening until May at the earliest. Yeah, I get it...but it's like when teams were scouting Chris Sale. You ask yourself, for what? What more is there to see here? Where I disagree with you, however, though, is that this performance didn't increase Q's value. It doesn't matter the competition when you are that dominant. Pretty certain scouts came away today saying "this dude is the real deal."

I mean I get scouting the young guys, because of growth and development, but what are you looking for with a proven commodity like Q? One obvious answer might to be to make sure he looks healthy and doesn't have a lurking injury.

This was the first thing to come to mind. Might want to see how he's interacting with teammates and coaches too since the opposing GM might not be forthcoming with negative info about that. BigHurt3515
Man I don't want to get rid of Quintana. Just a great guy it and great pitcher. He isn't flashy but he is a great competitor and is fun to watch
Chicago White Sox
http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/zeise-i...version=pgevoke Pittsburgh writer suggests Quintana for Glasnow, Keller, & Bell. Would you guys take that deal if offered or wait for something better? I'm torn here because it's obviously a ton of talent, but I hate that the one positional prospect we'd be getting is more of a 1B/DH type. We need another blue chip position player in this deal. I'm not sold on Bell, and neither are the fangraphs guys. They think he won't hit for power, and he's a DH basically. Meadows/Keller or Glasnow, based on who the Sox like better/Hayes/Lotto ticket is what it would take from PIT for me to make a deal. However it starts with Meadows and either Keller or Glasnow. No Meadows no deal with Pirates. None of those guys has the upside of Moncada and Kopech in my opinion. Not that I disagree with your main point, but if you're looking for guys with the upside of Moncada & Kopech, you'll never be moving Quintana. Those guys have arguably the highest ceilings in the entire minors. Edited March 24, 2017 by Chicago White Sox
Blackout Friday
Word is Jung Ho Kang was denied a work visa and may have trouble attaining one this season. Maybe they saw some of Delmonico this spring while scouting Q (yesterday especially) and came away impressed. Just a thought if that could be worked into a deal. I assume the Toddfather is out of their price range. (Adding this point was the edit) Edited March 24, 2017 by Blackout Friday

I'm torn here because it's obviously a ton of talent, but I hate that the one positional prospect we'd be getting is more of a 1B/DH type. Because of the first two deals, the Sox have to get a top position player as a headliner in this deal. Really they should be at least the top two players. More pitchers just puts the rebuild further behind.

I'd prefer an elite hitter over an elite pitcher at this point too, but I'm not going to turn away an elite prospect for a decent one just because of the positions they play. Those guys have arguably the highest ceilings in the entire minors. Oh I know that very few players, if any have the upside of Moncada and Kopech. Their ceilings are so great that it didn't take another T100 guy to move Chris Sale. Because players like them don't exist very often, let alone in the same system. Quintana is going to appear to be "more expensive" than Sale, simply because the ceilings of the players in return are lower. I'd argue that Moncada and Kopech have the highest ceilings of any MiLB position player and pitcher in the game, and that is why it only took them as T100 to get Sale. We should be so lucky that the Sawx didn't stay horrible after 2014. Edited March 24, 2017 by Elgin Slim
